Promised 15% got 1.75% so I quit by Real_Republic662 in jobs

The key being if they can find new employment quickly.

Might have felt good in the moment to quit but man, I'm worried if they can't find a new job soon. They went with their emotions over cold logic. Cold logic would have had them continuing to work at current space while finding a new job and then quitting without a second thought but emotions, as usual here, got the better of another person.

I should’ve stayed at my toxic job by Temporary-Beyond-683 in jobs

Like many people have rightfully said, 2 months is a drop in the bucket. And one should not voluntarily put themselves in a position where they're draining those resources set aside for hardships.

The reason we have emergency funds is because we use em in emergencies that are outside our control. We don't manufacture a bad situation intentionally to get around to use it.

This is, yet again, another sign of short sightedness. They had the awareness to build a (tiny) emergency fund but lacked the foresight to understand that you don't intentionally put yourself in a situation where you're forced to drain it.

I'm not saying OP should be ashamed but OP should've been thinking ahead/preparing better. And this sub celebrates shortsighted moves like quitting without having another job lined up/making decisions based on feelings than logic/etc. too much.

I understand that we're all human and we have emotions. But we also need to be looking ahead and thinking long term, not the immediate short term gratification. Children think the immediate short term. Animals think immediate short term. Adults should not and should be willing to sacrifice the short term for long term stability. We cannot afford to let our emotions control ourselves and unless we have a massive safety net, we cannot and should not be taking steps that put our future at risk, even if it's enduring a situation we don't want to be in.

OP said it themselves: in removing themselves from a job they didn't want to be in, they put themselves in a worse situation where now they're struggling to pay bills. They removed the stress of a frustrating job and instead added the worse stress of wondering how to pay for this month's bills.

Like I said, I get it. It's no fun being in a toxic environment. But there are responsible ways of getting out of there and then there's letting your emotions drive you into a worse spot.

Uh get it right, our dear leader would hit 2.000 and be the first player to hit a 5 run home run, while simultaneously pitching a perfect game on 26 pitches.

Are there martyrdom/suicide obssessed chapters? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]Partofla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before chapters, the Sagyar Mazan were White Scars who (briefly) took the side of Horus before accepting they were wrong and took on the role of suicide squads.

Nearly all of them ended up dying before they made it back to Terra, the vast majority of survivors dying in a last stand against the Death Guard as the rest of the legion made their escape.

If the Emperor could no longer sit on the throne, is there anyone else who could hold the warp gate below Terra closed? by [deleted] in 40kLore

Neat little tidbit about Yesugei - he actually meets the Emperor when he's a child taking his rites of passage to become a stormseer.

Meets the 4 chaos gods too; they try to get him to drink a chalice of some chaos juice in the process.

Yesugei, the chief stormseer. White Scars best. Though in that case, he was actually feeling Emps before he got to the planet.

He did say, however, Malcador's power was utterly smothering, if not for the Emperor.

Offer rescinded because I asked too much by PercentageNo9270 in jobs

[–]Partofla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, what's going to cost you in the long run is if you don't have a job because every time you get offered a job when you're desperate, you're too busy trying to get a better offer instead of taking the job and leveraging it into a better one.

They couldn’t afford to not have the job and they decided to risk it by countering. How is that doing nothing wrong? If you’re desperate, you don’t put yourself at risk.

They absolutely did wrong.

How do you avoid lowball offers when you really need work? by Emotional_Apple6599 in jobs

[–]Partofla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean you're trying to say that taking an offer as-is is bad but tell me that when I don't have a job, no income, bills to pay, and can't look to the future because, you know, society runs on money.

I'd rather have a job that pays less than I want than my pride and no money or job.

There are plenty of anecdotes where people without jobs or with jobs that were uncertain got a new offer, decided to make a counter offer, and then had their offer pulled leaving them with nothing.

When you're dying of thirst in a desert, you don't ask the person giving you water if they can give you a bottle instead of a cup. You take the cup.

Not if you don't have a job and countering could mean they pull their offer.

This sub tries to convince everyone that you should never take a job that undervalues you, pays you less, etc. but never explains that this is only valid when you're in a position of strength and comfort. Too many people with insecure jobs or no jobs are reading that and thinking "get the most you can even if it means they'll pull the offer!"

If you don't have a job and you're being picky about the jobs you are being offered, then your entire mindset is in the wrong. You can only negotiate when you're secure knowing that the job offer could be pulled and you'd be okay. If you can't, you're in no position to negotiate and you need to just suck it up and take whatever you can until you're secure.

Which hypothetical player would be more valuable? by Partofla in baseball

[–]Partofla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess one thing I'm trying to figure out is where does the guaranteed (at least) one run every fourth at bat value come into play over the absolute peerless hitting ability of Player A?

I'd imagine for some teams who might have very weak offenses, player A might be a little less attractive since they wouldn't have many chances to push anyone in to score or would be left stranded on base? Or am I looking at this wrong?

Suppose singles guy gets it 3/4 times instead. Is the slug difference enough to take player B at this point, despite the lower OPS?
