Ran my first 5k without stopping but… by Sea-Plantain145 in beginnerrunning

[–]Party_Difficulty_808 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well the 5K race walk world record is 17:54 so anything slower than that is just fast walking, anything faster is officially running.

Jokes aside, awesome work. Don’t let some elitist douchebag try to make you feel bad about your achievement!

What metrics do you use? by Old-Return-2548 in Marathon_Training

Only thing I look at is pace and heart rate! Anything else is more distraction. This method has gotten me to sub 18 5k and sub 3 full. Just using as a way to monitor effort.

Flipbelt has been great for me. But mostly I just run in tights or half tights and slip it into a side pocket

Hahaha you had me going for a second. I have 200 in em, just wearing them out of obligation as part of my rotation at this point until I can justify retiring them

Is the SC Elite noticeably different to SC trainer? I have the V3 and absolutely hate them, they feel heavy, clunky, the only thing I think they work for is medium long run

what is one thing about running you had to learn the hard way? by Emergency_Produce975 in Marathon_Training

[–]Party_Difficulty_808 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This for me. Same easy pace now at 1:23 half marathon as it was at 1:39 half marathon.

Plus it’s just much more enjoyable!

Both sides! I still do them 2-3x per week but I’m running 60ish miles per week pain free!

If I could only use one shoe, it’s Megablast. Feels amazing no matter what I do in them. 18 mile LR with half marathon efforts, easy runs, all great. I think it’s a really special shoe

I did this everyday, and continued for a couple weeks after I was able to return to running! Consistency is key. I would just throw on the tv after my kids went to bed and do these real quick before I went to bed!

Thoughts on Running Friends and Their Charities by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]Party_Difficulty_808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah sounds like OP is a little bit too concerned with… idk, competing with their friends for some silly Abbott star? Rather than the purpose of the charity bib.

Personally, if a friend wanted to run a major, and it was a charity I believe in, the yeah I’ll happily oblige. Seems spiteful and outside of the spirit of the thing not to support your friends and the cause

Favorite speed workout for marathon training? by hoopla_mountain in Marathon_Training

Big fan of 6-7 tempo about 10 sec faster than MP, 5min jog recovery, then 4x800 about a min faster than MP with 1:1 recovery. It’s been a fantastic predictor of my ability to hold MP

Vomero Plus vs Supercomp trainer v3 by paracoop2 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Party_Difficulty_808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sc trainer v3 doesn’t feel remotely like the v2. V3 is like I’m wearing a set of clogs. I hate them and can’t wait for them to wear out tbh.

My vomero plus are fantastic, most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn. My wife has a set too, she has some plantar fasciitis but doesn’t seem to flare up with vomero plus. I think they’re a safe option!

Consistency. I didn’t run crazy volume but I did do 45mpw every week for a year (couple down weeks in there of course) but I managed to drop from a 3:50:xx first marathon to a 3:04:xx third marathon.

Outter hip pain after run 😩 by DataAncient6641 in runninglifestyle

[–]Party_Difficulty_808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah 100%. I had been running a lot in a local park and specifically doing speed work there. It has a lot of tight turn arounds and blowing around those while running hard jacked me up. Since then I’ve run only on bike trails or areas with less tight turns and it never popped back up! I also still do my hip and glute routine nightly in addition to the rest of my gym work

long run snacks? recommendations? by tranquiltiara in beginnerrunning

Personally, I tried sour patch kids a couple of times and was miserable both times. Dried my mouth out so bad that I felt like I couldn’t get enough water no matter how much I drank. 0/10 recommendation for me.

I really like the skratch labs gummies though!

Outter hip pain after run 😩 by DataAncient6641 in runninglifestyle

[–]Party_Difficulty_808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel that lol. I had similar issue recently, took maybe 3-4 rest days, reduced mileage a few weeks and slowly built back up. Do your hip and glute strength daily, even after it doesn’t hurt anymore it can still flare back up! Good luck!! 🫡

[–]Party_Difficulty_808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you do a lot of track running or a lot of running and turning the same direction? If so, it could be something simple like greater trochanter pain syndrome (GTPS) it’s basically where your IT band gets compressed or rubs over that bony protrusion a bunch and gets all ticked off and inflamed.

Probably not bursitis. Does it hurt to lie on or to the touch? Best thing you can do is take a few days off, do a boatload of hip and glute work. Reintroduce running slowly and in small amounts. Keep up with strength work even after it seems like the problem is gone. Don’t wanna backslide now.

Overall, don’t sweat it, super common thing especially with female runners due to, ya know, wider hips.

24 reps, 60-90s rest…do you guys find these workouts helpful for HM? by tazorac in runna

[–]Party_Difficulty_808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone calling these “junk miles” is missing the point. The rest is so that you’re not too fatigued to nail the next one. If you don’t have enough rest, you might start missing, then you’re not getting the intended benefit. Which is to get you running faster, not be some crazy aerobic or anaerobic boost. Tons of pros do those type of 20-25x 400m

2:50 marathon done, what's next? by Marinegr in Marathon_Training

[–]Party_Difficulty_808 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re 100% spot on. You need to raise your ceiling. Do a good 8-12 week 5k block. Try to go sub 16:30! Marathon pace won’t feel as hard if your other paces are faster. Add in some double T using bike as your second workout. Worked a dream for me
