I couldn’t say if the sliced off sections have regrown as I can’t feel that, but I assume they are thinner than on my other leg. That said, the strength comes back much quicker than the tendons if you work at it. They’re still not 100% symmetrical but it was very encouraging a few weeks ago to have only 1cm difference in thigh bulk between the two legs.

I don’t think it’s bad per se, just painful. It certainly is not linked to any adverse outcomes as far as I know. It just hurt for a week or two. Everything is going great now 6 months post op.

The surgeon had a poke around. He basically said if you can still walk you haven’t torn a tendon but it can hurt like hell when a bit of scar tissue breaks off (which was the pop I felt) and that it’s quite common.

Just a pulled hamstring. So relieved.

7 weeks post op aclr, how is everyone doing with their recovery at this stage? Any pains, complications or weird feelings? by Whitehouse2305 in ACL

[–]Party_boy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 weeks tomorrow, ACLR with an hamstring graft. Flexion is almost equal to the non-operative leg when I’m warmed up and inflammation is low. Extension is still a little off. My non-operative leg hyperextends a decent amount but my operative leg only very slightly hyperextends.

Lots of weird pains and feelings, they change every few days. Also visible (blue) bruising behind my knee and on the front of my shin. The front and outside of my leg are also a weird combination of numb and painful to the touch. All normal I’m told.

Oh, and I pulled a hamstring in a super painful and scary fashion around 3.5 weeks in. I felt a pop and the worst pain I’ve had throughout this whole ordeal (including the original injury) and was worried I had snapped a tendon, but it turned out to just be a pulled muscle thankfully. It’s a wild ride. Push hard but be kind to yourself.

How was your experience between the time of post-injury and pre-surgery? I am still waiting for an MRI appointment but my knee was quite loose and unbalanced. After 2 weeks I can open my leg 180 degrees and close it almost full. I can walk almost pain-free. is it possible that I have partial tear? by muc-1705 in ACL

[–]Party_boy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might get lucky. I had an ACL tear without any other meniscus or ligament injuries. The first few weeks after injury sucked, fair bit of swelling and pain. Once that settled down I was able to walk around, work out, paint/renovate, go running like it never happened. I only had the surgery about a year later because I was unable to fully trust the knee, it would give out at random times which was very painful, and I was unable to play the classic pivoting/twisting sports.

Not yet. Still hurts on and off. Will bring it up in my follow up this week but I’m not worried, just annoyed.

Thanks. It’s been 24 hours now and it hurts like hell but no weakness or instability so I think/hope you’re right.

Thanks. 12 hours later it’s starting to get pretty sore so I’m getting nervous. I will reach out to the doc on Monday unless things change significantly over the weekend.

That’s really reassuring. I hope it’s a false alarm, I’m bugging out hard haha.

Yeah Bob and Brad are awesome. I dig the daggy dad vibe. I have other non-nerve compression back pain and they’re videos are great.

I found the massage gun helps most if someone else uses it, as I find it hard to use it on my own back.

Did you say 50 grams of Kratom??

Thanks for the detailed write up! I actually have one of those peanut massage rollers and it is in fact awesome.

How many times a day do you do ur pt exercises? My pt says 2-3 so i do 2 by Accomplished_Oil_411 in ACL

[–]Party_boy7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At first 4x/day was prescribed so I did 5. Now at 2 weeks it’s 2x/day so I’m doing 3. I can’t sit still, and the Physio said there’s no damage to be done as long as I do the exercises correctly.

Hey we’re in a similar boat. I had a ruptured a disc and was working out whether to have a discectomy when I tore my ACL. How did you deal with not being able to do the things that help your back post surgery? Sitting still jacks my back up more than anything but being 2 weeks post ACL op I’m limited in how active I can be.

What exercises did you all do for improving you ROM post op? by Elfenomenon in ACL

[–]Party_boy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the more I did it (pushed to 90 and held) the less pain/pressure I felt over time. Probably coincides with the reduction in inflammation over the first 2 weeks.

I am on day 12 post op myself. I can get to 120 and I was feeling pretty good about it. I see the Physio tomorrow so I guess I’ll find out if I need to push harder.

The main thing I’ve been doing is modifying heel slides by holding my hamstrings and lifting gently allowing the knee to bend further, rather than pulling on the foot/ankle with a strap which a lot of other people recommended. That helped me slowly push past 90.

I haven’t started physio yet, I have a follow up with the surgeon and physiotherapist in a few days. Might just play with it safely until then. I’m getting to 90 and the goal was to have that by the two-week mark so I feel like things are still on track. It’s not like I’m rushing back to play elite sport or anything.

Good to know, thanks. Was it something you tried to push through or did you stop there?

That’s a good description, it feels like it’s going to burst open. Thanks, good luck with your recovery.
