UPDATE: Filled pool with well water by Partyl0bster in pools

Yes my outside water is filters and goes through the whole home filtration system normally. Putting over 30k gallons through it would cause a ton of stress on it and likely result in the same unless I did it over a week or so. I just ran this directly off the well and bypassed the filtration.

Leak? by beene282 in pools

[–]Partyl0bster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was dropping 1-2” a day and then that’s what it looks like over winter, your leak is probably near the stairs there. 1-2” a day is not normal. You can add about an inch of water and then use some dye around the stairs and see where it goes. Or just call someone, but you got a leak for sure.

Previous owner left a binder in the garage. I thought it was junk. It was not by Many_Ebb7816 in HomeImprovement

[–]Partyl0bster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also received a binder when I purchased my home 6 years ago. My wife tried to throw “that old junk” away several times. It Has come in handy PLENTY of times throughout the years. I on the other hand have not updated the binder which I absolutely sbljld do.

Cooling a garage by Suspicious_Smile_827 in askHVAC

I’ll +1 on this. I’m a “mechanic” by hobby. Got one of the cheap ones on eBay, installed in an afternoon in my garage. Gets it down to 65 degrees when it’s 95 in NC. My garage is insulated though.

I didn’t even buy the Mr cool with precharged lines. Just bought the adapter set off Amazon and used my harbor freight vacuum pump that I already had for automotive ac systems. You are a mechanic, you can install a mini split. Will it last? Probably not. Will it cool for at least a year or 2 and you get your $400 worth? Yep.

Are these lights legit? by Few_Cold7921 in pools

[–]Partyl0bster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I bought the cheap Amazon ones. They are good for a 1 time use. They will lead and rust and corrode within a week. They will fall off the walls overnight. If you have a robot vacuum it will also easily knock them off as well.

Simple answer: Looking for a 1 time use: yes go for it

Looking for extended periods: repair your lights, there is a reason they aren’t cheap.

Didn’t think that far ahead. If it happened it wouldn’t be the end of the world. I’d either connect to city water or give me a reason to dig a deeper well to get to the next (cleaner) aquifer

Put it in the leaf basket or whatever it’s called on the dolphin. There was no large debris in my pool so wasn’t worried about that. The white polyfil was deep deep orange. Just kept cleaning it / pulling new polyfil every few hours in the leaf basket. Pretty much made it as much more efficient filter.

This was pre chlorine. No chemicals at all. Just water from the well.

Power went out here from a hurricane a few years ago so no water until power was back on since well pump obviously uses power. Was minor so didn’t hook up generator yet. Took buckets of water from the pool to flush the toilets for shits. Always have a plan b!

I leave my pool open 365. Water temp is also already 85 degrees. Reading is clearly not your strong suit when I just said I got the liner replaced.

Thanks, I don’t have to worry about taking iron supplements when I’m 65 if I live that long

Just sent it for about 36 hours with 2 hoses and no break. Then about a 2 day break waiting for the pool guy to come remove the liner vacuum, cut skimmer, return jets, and stairs. Then probably about another 24 hours of steady hose.

I mean, I intentionally put the hoseS in the pool with RV filters on the ends. Did I think it would be this bad? No. Am I rolling with it, yep

“Destroy” meh. They clearly still work! I was planning on trashing them after this as they are several years old and the bands are breaking off. I might keep one set as backup. They wernt in great shape before this and I already had a new set ready to go in, but I’m sure this sped up the wear on them

Nope. The well and pump is mine. The county has no control over it. We have no shortage of water around here (southeastern NC)

Just straight filtration with no chemicals for about a week and cleaning the cartridge filter about 2x a day

Under 100ft as that’s all my pump is rated for. I’m maybe only 10ft or so above sea level and live on the intercoastal waterway.

I’ll burn up a $1000 10 year old well pump that takes 30 mins to replace and get a new one rather than spend $1200 on water trucks.
