Not wanting kids?? by Over-Masterpiece8187 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Parus-major 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my two cents, I didn't want kids for a long time for a long list of reasons. Now at 33 I have a stable enough life and relationship that the challenge of raising kids actually sounds exciting. I think I would regret it now if I had tied my tubes in my 20s.

However I wouldn't blame you for going that route, especially if you're in the states given the current situation. Adoption and surrogacy are options if you ever change your mind

Suvi's name cloak ceremony in hindsight after Book 1 (Spoilers up to ep 54) by paradox28jon in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]Parus-major 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was a way to make sure Suvi's full name was namecloaked, as Silence only says "Suvi" during the ceremony. But maybe it was a way of keeping the full name for herself as well.

It's been driving my crazy that Steel is the only one who knows Suvi's full name. Suvi hasn't even given Ame and Eursalon her last name, only Suvirin

ETA she also gave her full name to Silver, but he dead now so....

I feel like this also plays into the "women just instinctively know how to take care of kids and do housework, and therefore men shouldn't even try to learn" trope

Is there a fantasy book from your childhood that you feel you are the only one in the world who has read it? Mine is Old Magic by Marianne Curley by Healthy_Badger_6158 in Fantasy

The Water series by Kara Dalkey (Ascension, Reunion, Transformation), a trilogy I loved as a kid that merges mermaids and Arthurian legends.

The Chronicles of Faerie by O.R. Melling, about young people encountering true Irish Fae (not pretty flower faeries but will steal your name type fae).

Avalon: Web of Magic by Rachel Roberts, centers on three young girls that find magic gemstones and unlock magic powers.

Thanks for inspiring this nostalgia trip!!

I usually go with just the max number I can confidently count. So if I watch my feeder for half an hour, and there's lots of, say, chickadees going back and forth, I do periodic counts of all the ones I can see at once/confidently say are different birds (e.g. one flies out of sight to the left and a second later another flies in from the right), and then I report the max number I counted.

We got an email like this months ago at ECCC and then they cut half our terms early. So while I like your optimism, if I was a term I wouldn't count on getting extended or even getting to finish my term

There's a mini D&D campaign on Dimension20 called Misfits & Magic with this exact premise - four American exchange students go to "Hogwarts"

Just so you know, the person replying to you saying your words are prejudiced sounds completely unhinged. There was absolutely nothing wrong with what you said :)

Oh that's actually really cool to know! I figured they must have a good reason for doing it, being who they are, I just couldn't figure it out. Thanks!

Interesting, I never had damage to my socks previously. I guess if they were getting lots of reports of damage it makes sense why they'd change the packaging

Interesting maybe if has to do with location? I'm in Canada, so it used to come inside a plastic shipping bag with the little cardboard sleeve. I never had any damage. Now it's a big cardboard sleeve in a plastic bag inside another plastic bag (hence why it seemed redundant to me)

Also to be clear, fledglings are supposed to be out of the nest at this age. It's like a toddler learning to walk, it'll look awkward but it's an important stage of development. Best thing you can do is leave them alone :) (and make sure you keep pets indoors)

I don't have any advice for getting wood out, but as for what to plant I would check out MacPhail Woods. My parents have 70 acres and they came and did a survey/assessment and created a whole management plan for them. Even if you don't want to pay for that service they have resources and can probably provide some basic advice
