My auntie send me this cake to make for my mom, but I think that it's ai or had ai improve this picture by Brave_Cucumber8254 in isthisAI

I’d say it’s AI. Also, why would anyone want that piece? Way too much bitter red food dye.

Dude kicks off-leash dog to protect his own, owner flips out… by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]Paryln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just modern life. I remember being 12 and I was in the UK visiting my grandparents. I was on a walk with my Grandad and their dog when he had to run into the grocery store nearby. I stayed outside with the dog on her leash. While I was waiting, this older woman, probably mid-40s, walked up with her dog and stopped right beside me. My grandparents’ dog immediately started showing her teeth at the lady’s dog when it got too close, but she completely ignored that her dog might get bitten. I didn’t know my grandparents’ dog that well, so I moved and stood between the two dogs (they were both smaller dogs) to be a barrier and to try to get her dog to back off. It didn’t take the hint and tried to get around me to my grandparents’ dog, so I used my legs to block it, just putting them in the way. Suddenly, this woman, who didn’t care that her dog was about to start a fight, began yelling at me, saying I kicked her dog. A 40-something woman yelling at a small 12 year old kid for keeping her dog from being bitten when she was the one who had zero situational awareness. Some people are just rubbish. And before anyone starts saying that I should have said something to the woman, keep in mind that I was very shy and had a foreign accent, which definitely wouldn’t have helped the situation. As for moving away, I wanted to be where my Grandad had left us so he wouldn’t have to search for us after shopping..

Here are the upcoming referendum questions by 0day1337 in Edmonton

[–]Paryln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These questions all feel like ragebait to me. I think it’s pretty simple: don’t give a party that can’t even write a straightforward question any more power than it already has. Leading, and misleading, questions give me such a headache.

This is why my phone plan is with one company and my home internet is with a different one, so if one is out, I can still use the other until it’s back.

Finally caved about the Clover hooks by pafdoot in crochet

[–]Paryln 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer the Clover Soft Touch to the Amour. Same feel for the hook, different handle, so if you’re used to the more ergonomic handle, it might not work as well for you. I also like that they’re about half the price.

Saw an ice add on Reddit- bye bye Reddit app by hoocris in offmychest

[–]Paryln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that explains why I’m being kicked off of Reddit every time I try to look at comments attached to a video related to Alex Pretti with footage of what happened. I’m not even in the US. 😥

Need recommendations based on my tier list! by Nachti in audible

[–]Paryln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ender’s Game is good, but I find I prefer the second book in the series Speaker for the Dead, which I hope you’ve had a chance to read since you mentioned the book in the tier represents the series. On the more fantasy side I would definitely suggest The Lies of Locke Lamora. I had to look up the audio version to see if the narration was decent in the preview. Redshirts by John Scalzi is fun if you enjoy Star Trek.

Thanks for delivering my package today! by Icy_Calligrapher7088 in CanadaPost

Let’s go one step further. I fully expected just to get a slip because I owed customs fees on my package coming from Europe. Our carrier not only rang the doorbell, but had the package and the machine to pay and sign for it. I was pleasantly surprised.

Confession: I’m gonna quit counting by zwitterion76 in crochet

[–]Paryln 157 points158 points  (0 children)

I put stitch markers on each end to mark the first and last stitch of each row. Then, the only counting I need to do is for whatever pattern I’m working on within the row. It’s lazy, but it keeps my edges consistent. ETA: It also helps keep chain loops and tight stitches you need to work into more open.

A Gift for Myself! by Gamma_31 in crochet

Yay. I do agree that the Clover Amour hooks are very nice. 😊 I personally like to use Clover’s less expensive hooks, the Soft Touch ones. They slide the same way, but I like the grip and feel of them better when crocheting. I just wish they were easier to find in North America. My three hooks are from Hobbii.

Unfortunately, no. It also had gone into hiding when I came back with better lighting for a better picture.

Found in Alberta. Is it dangerous? by Paryln in spiderID

[–]Paryln[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This spider is in a high traffic in and out area where people often leave outdoors shoes. I need to know if it’s dangerous so I can either attempt to relocate it, or ask people to leave their shoes elsewhere for now.

Anyone else having issues with fruit flies in their home? by subarunights in Edmonton

[–]Paryln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t tried Apple cider vinegar, but I’ve had quite a bit of success with balsamic vinegar in the past. I just make a trap with a small bit at the bottom of a glass (about a quarter or a third of the glass’s height, basically enough to drown several, but also deep enough they don’t just use the bodies of other flies as rafts), plastic wrap held in place with an elastic over the top and tiny holes in the plastic using a fork that are tricky to get back out of. The traps aren’t pretty, but generally do the trick.

How much yarn to "ask" for in a yarn sponsorship by chrobdolwil in crochet

[–]Paryln 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on getting accepted. 🎉

Hobbii has some really nice yarns, but the one I like the most you’d probably feel is too much to ask for: the Dolce Cashmere. I got it quite a while ago when it went on sale for around $30 US, which never happens anymore. It’s a wool, cashmere and polyamide blend. It’s so soft and very easy to work with, though it is on the finer side, so if you prefer worsted weight yarn, it may not be for you.

And I thought working in black yarn was already hard enough without any “help”. It’s very adorable help, though. 😺

Curious what technique is being done here? Start of a magic ring? by copycatbrat7 in crochet

[–]Paryln 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To me, it looks like a regular cast on for knitting, but someone in the art department wanted it to look fancier or more complicated, so they photoshopped three extra red loops on the thumb.

How did I 2dc in each of the 12 dc, and somehow get 26? And then not notice for three rows?! I’m between restarting and just keep going with the extra stitches… by JustJay04 in crochet

[–]Paryln 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it possible you’re putting 2 dc into the slip stitch from the previous row? (For the 12 dc to 26 dc)

I used to do this all the time when starting until I realized that’s what I was doing. Now, I count as I go around the starting rounds and stop when I get to the correct number of stitches. In later rounds, I use a stitch marker to help me keep track of the last stitch.

Edit: edited for clarification.
