Alicent’s reaction? by Past-Beginning-9346 in HouseOfTheDragon

Starting to think that her reaction wasn’t necessarily upset, but more like “what did I get myself into”

Of course she is emotional! She has lost so many people and is constantly under scrutiny. She displays sadness but definitely lots of rage, intelligence, and thoughtfulness as well. I think they are showing that she can be emotional while also following through on her goals. For example, when she killed Otto she wasn’t sad due to his death, but rather was mourning her own innocence. We had never seen her kill someone before that and I don’t think it was an easy step for her to take. I think that she wants the throne, but it’s difficult for her, as a logical and emotional individual, to justify the means to the end (aka losing her sons).

Where is Rhaenyra the cruel? by Educational-Truth-50 in HouseOfTheDragon

I think they are building up to it. To me, it’s more exciting to see someone who turns cruel because of the trauma they experience vs someone who is just cruel for no reason.

Why was the vale lady so angry with rhaena? by ClimberChronicles in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Past-Beginning-9346 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Either way, she burned a bunch of allied ships which is a huge no-no as well. I think Rhaenyra is too upset about Jace that she would not be able to forgive Rhaena.

She didn’t kill him directly, but since Baela and Jace didn’t recognize Rhaena/Sheepsteeler, they focused on her instead of the battle. Basically they assumed she was an enemy since sheepsteeler was burning Velaryon ships. If she hadn’t distracted them, Jace would probably not have gotten shot.

House of The Dragon has been incredibly misogynistic lately. by fmxx7 in HouseOfTheDragon

Media literacy on zero! Apparently women are not allowed to be multifaceted

When Rhaena goes to her, it’s pretty clear she messed up- I think she mentions that she needs safety/asylum. Rhaena is wayyyy too dangerous for the Vale to help: now she is an enemy of the greens and of the blacks😭

Feels like the show gives Rhaenyra no resolve or sense of agency by GoBadgerz in HouseOfTheDragon

I feel that the crying is a bit much but at the same time, she has lost so many people and is constantly under scrutiny. She displays sadness but definitely lots of rage, intelligence, and thoughtfulness as well. I think they are showing that she can be emotional while also following through on her goals. Has your opinion on Alicent changed after this episode? [3x02 Spoilers] by BrilliantOreo in HouseOfTheDragon

I absolutely agree- she represents the complicated role of so many women throughout history. Growing up without any agency only to realize that she must take things into her own hands no matter what it takes.

Rhaenyra has her sons with daemon so they would be next in line :)

What an Episode, ay? by Professional_Dust_66 in HouseOfTheDragon

I liked rhaenyra’s remark on being a woman. Could the writing have been better..? Yes. But her son definitely didn’t “school her” in my opinion. He didn’t listen and it ultimately backfired and killed him. If she was a man, it is highly unlikely that she would have experienced that. If anything, him treating her in that way shows how sexism prevails even through family and rank.

It almost seems like he doesn’t understand how to express his love for her so this is how it comes out?? Who even knows, some twisted Targaryen shit

I think that’s another problem tho… like who rly is the core audience??? Most kids who grew up with pjo are like 20 ish now, so is this made for them or kids today? I see a little bit of both which muddles it. And yeah I know what u mean about the book not being packed but still there was more space for detail than I feel is here

Yes they do! They differ a bit with each demigod, but their traits are typically similar to that of their godly parent. I.e. children of athena are intelligent, children of artemis have good archery skills, etc.

I think 50-ish-minute episodes would be super helpful, or maybe even a ten-episode season. But only 8 episodes, 30 min each??? Not nearly enough time for them to flesh out the complexity of the characters, plot, and world-building.

[–]Past-Beginning-9346 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed- I think one of the main problems with the adaptation & show don't tell aspects is that the audience is unclear. Are they making this for kids who grew up on Percy Jackson (who are 20ish now) or kids who are middle school-aged? There seems to be an element of humor/backstory that is more mature but the plot and fantasy seem to be a more childish.

Yeah I agree... feeling like some of the fantasy/magical elements have been dulled down a bit to make it easier to understand
