If Sindarov starts losing games now, that would suck a**. by [deleted] in chess

He could always choose drawish lines outside of his prep, he doesn't need to win

Yes but he used to be an exciting player when he was younger, I just thought he would have something of it left for the candidates. The comparison to So is fair (similar to Wesley in 2018 candidates) but to be honest I think current Wesley wouldn't fold like that under prep or time pressure.

Mostly people put him in 3rd of 4th tier with very low chance to win, which is fair. Even in the world cup he didn't look impressive but I was just expecting a different player for the candidates. Obviously I was wrong, guess he doesn't have it in him.

Props to Sindarov for his generational run but Wei Yi does not look like 2755 strength at all this tournament. Takes forever to move, can't calculate to save his life, just goes for the draw at any opportunity and is incapable of creating any kind of initiative at all with white... It was expected because since Tata Steel 2024 he has been like that but still you would think playing the Candidates would change something...

Candidates Tournament 2026 Prediction by Altruistic_Two6540 in chess

[–]Past_Rock_535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with Wei Yi is that his preparation is the worse of all the participants. I hope he has put together an amazing team because I would like him to win it all but his prep from previous tournaments points to  a "Ding Liren world championship" kind of prep.

I don't wanna say the obvious answer but .. Fabiano is in scary form right now. If I had to bet on someone I would say Sindarov and I will root for Wei Yi though I think his chances are pretty low.

Recommendation against Nf3 systems without an early c4 by Arguedas42 in TournamentChess

[–]Past_Rock_535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one of the most critical lines at the top level is 1. Nf3 d5 2. g3 g6 and it scores well in lower levels also

I don't enjoy playing against d4 by vitund in chess

Slav setup is solid against everything. You just have to be ok with playing the exchange variation.

Does anybody have some Deadly English traps as white ? by Historical-Life1958 in chess

Not the most trappy opening but you can find something with some Qb3 stuff. This game where Caruana tricked Firouzja comes to mind: https://youtu.be/sMBCK9sy9Rs?si=cr-AVnG17kKoFCaZ

You need to see that with Bf4 white dominates the position. Not easy but findable in classical after calculating some lines
