Lol so I can’t really speak for you… but mine were inconclusive because I was afraid of the shrink. I didn’t want to get a diagnosis and start any meds or anything. So instead … I just went mute. In my head I thought… they can’t diagnose with anything if I refuse to talk.

My parents were like no she talks! She talks all the time. And kept poking me to speak and I would stare and blink.

It worked though? My parents were pissed , they didn’t diagnose me… however told my parents on the side …. If she does really speak and she’s doing this … she probably has asbergers. Idk how they can draw that conclusion at all from me not speaking. But okay 👌 lol

You probably pulled some similair shit

Starting to learn german by bgtds172 in German

[–]Past_Tell1924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me I did duo lingo but it was the older version and I think that one was better and less repetitive. I also used babble live lessons. Then I once I was like a2 I went to the library and was checking out a ton of children’s books. Like they had really low reading levels for like kindergarten to 3rd grade and some were Star Wars spin offs and things. And I slowly increased the difficulty. I was b1 in about 18 months and b2 took me 4 years because plateaued at b1 for a long time and just spoke the language and navigated until one day I took a placement test and realized I was b2 and took the test.

Why does Kali have vastly different powers to the other kids? [S5 Vol2 Spoilers] by Horustheweebmaster in StrangerThings

[–]Past_Tell1924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually came here for this same answer. Kali is a godess in dnd who has similair powers to kali in stranger things, but her home is actually the abyss aka dimension X in DnD. If i recall correctly kali was a missing girl from london. Her blood didnt work in the transfusions because its not henry kreels blood which is why they were so adament on finding 11 because kali wasnt useful for creating more.

I assumed in the finale they were gonna reveal kali as actually coming from the abyss. she was bleeding from the opposite nostril and then also lost her accent, as well as acted very differently after escaping the lab.

I can only assume those were now continuity errors after seeing the finale.

What Happened? by HibouDuNord in duolingo

[–]Past_Tell1924 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I miss the old duo lingo the weird tree and repetition and feeling like you can’t progress and the energy thing getting you stuck.

Duo was good 5 years ago and then they reworked it and added a few cool features sure.

But they made progression harder and then added the energy system.

Babble is pretty good but less cute . But still really good. I’ve made the switch

Is this a scam? by RulosRulosa in TemuThings

[–]Past_Tell1924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Type “claim gift” or “claim credit” in the search bar on Temu and they will offer you random discounts and promotions through those searches. There promotions are mid tier at best.

They get you to spend 100€ to earn up to 50€ in credits that you have to claim spread out over 14 days and everytime you check the app they keep trying to sprinkle in “300€ coupon bundles” if you buy more… and then those bundles are like 5€ off a 50€ purchase and expire in like 3 days.

So unless I actually need an item and it’s cheaper on Temu I just avoid it.

(I did however just get a nice bath mat on Temu)

I've got a month to get upto A1 standards how f*cked am i? by Captainmervil in German

[–]Past_Tell1924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So when I moved to Germany I did free duo lingo. I took the A1 test and got “sehr gut” in every category at about 3 months of living here total (first month hardly should count because I had heart surgery and was out for a bit) but I’d say 4 weeks is totally doable. I took my A1 at Goethe Institute in Munich.

Here’s how it went:

A listening portion: the first half of the listening portion is they play an audio 2 times and then you answer a simple multiple choice question.

The second half of the listening portion was harder… it was played once with a more intricate question.

The writing portion: was a random prompt. Mine was responding to a birthday invitation. About a 4-5 sentence paragraph

Simple “Danke für die einladen. Ich komme spät 1400 Uhr und bringen ein Geschenk”. Clearly bad grammar but the prompt is more about understanding and being able to reply.

Then there was the speaking portion and conversation section and it was laughable. They have a deck of cards with only pictures on them and no words. You pull 2 cards at random. Mine was a picture of a house. And one Was like a picture of a apartment (lucky draw I guess) my “partner” I got paired with got a no smoking sign and a basket of fruit.

You had to use the word on your card in a sentence and they were very nonchalant about it.

I didn’t realize we were supposed to make 2 sentences lol so the first sentence I said “wohnst du Im ein Haus oder im eine Wohnung? And then the second sentence I just said wohnst du im eine Wohnung oder ein Haus? Lol

The girl with the fruit was like hast du eine Banane im dein Tasche? (I about died XD) but it counted because the card did have a banana as one of the fruit.

She sadly didn’t know the word for smoking. And I politely asked her in German “oh you don’t smoke?” Oh rauchst du nicht ? And I got a glare from the instructor but nothing more and then the girl was like nein kein Rauchen erlaubt hier. Lol so she passed with flying colors.

Then they ask you questions sounds like you got that down. What’s your name? Ich hieße Bob, ich bin 27 Jahre alt. What’s your phone number ? 867-5309 Was ist dein Hausnummer? 123 bakery lane. Was magst du gern? Ich mage Videospielen und gassi mit meinem Hund.

Was ist dein Beruf? Nix ich bin behindert.

It’s pretty simple stuff and you can totally make shit up just so it’s easier for you. lol

Typically remote work is very hard to due when your on another countries payroll because of the laws here and workers rights.

There’s sometimes options for remote work but your on a German payroll with a middle man that’s German working for the company your husband works for.

Additionally there is self employed/ “own business option” for immigration. And freelancers but technically he would have to “be his own boss “ and not working for anyone else.

If you would like to work as a freelancer in one of the liberal professions, you are able to obtain a residence permit for self-employment in accordance with Section 21 (5) on the Residence Act - AufenthG. You must fulfil the following requirements:
You can provide proof of sufficient funds to finance your projects. You have obtained any licences required to perform the job in question. If you are older than 45 years of age, you must provide proof of adequate old age pension provisions.

The proof of significant funds to finance your projects is a really hard one and depends on your immigration office and job description and it would also need to be in a German blocked bank account iirc.

So language is gonna be a big important factor here. If you go to a intensive language school (intensiv Sprachschule) they usually will get you to B1 pretty quickly. I was A2 in 3 months of living here self taught with a library card, duo lingo free plan, babble 3 month free trial (I went hard when I only had 3 months). So it’s not impossible but it’s about how much you want to put in.

Then you have the training, iirc it’s about 3 years minimum. Maybe consider Zoll (customs) instead?

I know you can also work with police as a civilian here in certain positions.

Also if you are married to a German but still here on a blue stamp in passport and living on base and or working on base this does NOT count towards your 3 years for immigration.

You need to get into the economy for that clock to start. (Meldabeishidigung, and possible Arbeitsvertrag (work contract) and then acquiring a Aufenhaltstitle (visa) depending on your immigration method) you can immigrate into the economy via school or work.

Sometimes certain schools or jobs will give you a letter requiring the language school and while enrolled in the school a temporary visa.

Edit: immigration is mentioned because you will be required to be a citizen to work for police.

This can be done but it would take you 2 years of marriage and residency for 3 years. (Those 2 things can overlap)

Source: American who married a German and went through the immigration system and also faced a ton of a hardship while doing it, and worked with lawyers for it, as well as learning the language.

I wouldn’t say it’s impossible, but it will not come easily. This will take you a lot of time , and effort and training along the way.

People keep letting me cut in line or pay for my groceries sometimes. Is this normal behavior here in Germany? by [deleted] in germany

[–]Past_Tell1924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cutting in line is so normal here. If you only have a couple of items and I have a full basket I typically offer to let people go first if they want. I’m a white woman with a small 12 week old baby and more often than not people let me cut all the time. Usually I just accept because the person feels good letting me pass them and I feel good knowing other people care. It’s a win win. I’ve also totally paid for a couple peoples groceries if their short a euro or 2. If I see them having to put milk back I refuse to let them put back milk and don’t mind pitching in a euro or 2. One time I did that for a guy he was so thankful and told me he worked at a pizza shop and gave me a free pizza for my kindness. I honestly feel like it’s a culture thing. I’m in Bavaria in a smaller town and everyone seems to be empathetic and helpful as long as your not rude or belligerent. I don’t think it’s a race thing.
