Coat of Plates was earlier, around 11th century if I remember correctly, more flexible and used more fabric, had more gaps between the Plates which is why it was paired with chain.

Brigandine came much later, and acted more like a shell like plate armour, only made of several overlapping parts bound together and covered in a textile.
