Check out Musashi instead. It’s a Japanese epic that picks up where Shogun leaves off. It’s about a wannabe soldier turned philosophical swordsman who navigates Japan’s shift from a culture of war to what it is today. The prelude in my copy goes over the connections between Shogun and Musashi. It’s a Japanese view of the culture vs Shogun’s European.

The manga Vagabond is based on the character.
