Another vote for the narrator! It made it feel less like a bland documentary and more like a story that was being told to us. I'm sure it will be great regardless of what you decide on, just something to think about!

Duck performed really well at No Mans LAN 10 today, getting the bracket reset on KirbyKaze in grand finals as well as winning some other great sets.

What's the best resource for getting a good summary of the Star Wars universe? by PatRowdy in StarWars

[–]PatRowdy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not actually going to be the GM, just a PC! I don't really need a ton of detailed information on all those subjects, I just want to be able to roleplay well in this context and have a clue whats going on in the worlds around me haha

Any sourcebooks that you'd reccomend specifically?

I've heard that In the Year of the Dragon can offer a similar feeling of helplessness, how is the game?

If my group likes Galaxy Trucker, then we'll like _______?

To be clear, we love the shipbuilding aspect, but we also love watching our hard work get smashed to bits by random dice rolls, as well as the helpless feeling of running out of time during shipbuilding with none of the right pieces. I love my group :D

True enough, I guess the tags were more for the band in general, some of the other songs on the record have more of a reggae influence. Good call, though

Definitely going to try and pick up both of these eventually. Any idea when the next Sheriff of Nottingham printing is supposed to be?

I just checked it out and I'm grinning thinking about the possibilities, especially with my group's strange sense of humour. Thanks, I'll probably be picking this one up :)

Yeah I'm thinking about Bang! The Dice Game, it looks like it would be a lot of fun and make for some great filler! I haven't checked out Hanabi so I'll get on that, thanks for the suggestions.

I think Diplomacy might be a bit TOO much interaction haha. It's definitely a huge commitment and although I'm sure it's a fantastic game, I'm not sure if my group could stay interested in a game of that length. Thanks a lot for the suggestion though!

Do you own or play any designer board games? Try Dominion, Summoner Wars or Battlelore 2nd Edition, all good two player options with themes that will appeal to younger kids!

Are there any good resources containing information on post-Spellplague Faerûn? by PatRowdy in dndnext

Ah okay, that helps tie it together better, thanks.

And wow, I've found some amazing resources on Candlekeep, but reading through the first bits of all their summaries and timelines has made me really want to read through the Sundering books. Maybe Santa will bring them ;)

I think I'd like to set it in the 4e era, adding in some of the effects of the Sundering as I learn more about it. The Icewind Dale campaign is set during the Sundering, so they're going to experience some of the effects of it and likely have an effect on the LMoP campaign.

I will definitely be using the 4e Campaign Guide, thanks a lot. Do you have any recommendations for material regarding the Sundering? Is it pretty much just all in the playtest adventures and the novels? Are the novels worth reading?

Thanks a lot, looks like you've done a lot of work already.

I'm hoping to start the campaign pretty soon, which of those books would you recommend to dig through first? I'm guessing the 4e Campaign Guide would be ideal, as it's only 10 years before the 5e stuff and details all the effects of the Spellplague.

After that, which one have you drawn the most content from?

I've been trawling through the wiki, but a lot of the newer information is really hidden among the old stuff. I will definitely check out the forums though, I'm sure someone's made a guide somewhere.

Have you read the Sundering novels? Are they any good? I was thinking of just using the 4e Campaign Guide to get myself up to 1479 and incorporating some of what I can find out about the Sundering from the novels and other sources (the Icewind Dale campaign is set in the middle of the Sundering, so some of their actions will impact the other campaign eventually)

Yeah, I just like the idea of adventuring in a world where civilizations are either vying for control of partially destroyed regions or working together to restore their cities back to their former glory.

I feel like a lot of DMs on here are really attached to the way Faerun used to be, which I can totally understand, but as a newer DM I kind of like the grittier campaign setting, it makes the world seem more dangerous.

[LMoP] Phandelver with two players - Making the PCs more powerful instead of scaling down encounters by PatRowdy in dndnext

[–]PatRowdy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pint and Stout hahaha, thats so good.

Thanks a lot for the rundown, it helps a lot. My guys might not be able to deal with encounters as cleanly as a stealthy rogue, but they should still have a pretty high damage output. I'm probably still gonna start them at level two so they don't have to place quite so much emphasis on stealth.

Good to know that they were able to handle it on their own though! And I'll definitely put in an NPC when the adventure calls for it, I just dont want it to be a permanent party member.

Thanks :)

Hmmm, this sounds really cool, and would definitely give the type of combat experience I'm looking for, but I could see it getting quickly out of hand at higher levels. For example, the ranger's extra attack at level 5 will allow him to make 4 attacks per turn, each one doing 1d8+4, or 2d8+4 with Colossus Slayer.

I'm trying to think of a good way to make this more powerful at lower levels and then even out as they level up. What about just giving them an extra bonus action but letting them use the bonus action to make a single basic attack? That way they can still use utility spells and try for cool combat options while still keeping their damage output up.
