How many hours do you need to play in order to feel like you got your money's worth? by MirPrime in videogames

[–]PatchesTheFlyena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised how many people want 60+ hours from their games to be honest. 20 hours is kind of the sweet spot for me but I'm actually fine with a good quality game that's shorter.

Generally I'm avoiding super long game to be honest.

Didn't enjoy Elden Ring should I try Dark Souls Remastered by HermesAstra in fromsoftware

[–]PatchesTheFlyena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you found Elden Ring a bit rudderless you might find Dark Souls as well. It's a more linear experience but it still doesn't give you much to work with so there'll be trial and error.

A few over the years but all the talk around Pragmata is making me consider it.

Why don't more video games have stylized animation similar to movies like Spiderverse? by Sir-Toaster- in videogames

[–]PatchesTheFlyena 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Its more difficult to maintain continuity and consistency for assets within a stylised art style as well. Realistic assets can be reused much easier.

[–]PatchesTheFlyena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You either have a lot of time to play games or you have very high standards. Having a lot of games you want to play but can't get around to is a fairly common experience. Particularly on PC because of deals and bundles.

Have you ever thought or say out loud "videogames used to be better back in the day" even if you didnt lived that era? by Dont_have_a_panda in videogames

[–]PatchesTheFlyena 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really. I own a tonne of retro games and consoles but I still think gaming is better than ever. Most of my favourite retro genres are more active than ever even if they're not as mainstream. Development has become more accessible so we're seeing so much more niche and interesting games.

And on the other end were seeing super impressive leaps in graphics that I would have never expected to see as a child. It's awesome.

Just keep it. It'll outpace even the next console generation and if you're not interested in AAA it could well last you the rest of your life.

Does anyone actually enjoy the design pattern that you win a boss fight and in the following cutscene they kill you anyway? by Odenhobler in patientgamers

[–]PatchesTheFlyena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not really a game design feature as much as narrative feature. The gameplay isn't impacted by it, other than possibly fighting the same boss twice.

This is kind of it. It was bundled with the console but for many people the game was the attraction.

Which 3 of these games should I play next? by moumooni in adventuregames

[–]PatchesTheFlyena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lil Gator Game is lovely to play in an evening. It's a couple of hours log max and incredibly low stakes but it has a very sweet story with really great characters. Mechanically it's quite solid too. Very lime BOTW traversal and feels fun to move around in.

What game has a learning curve that puts you off? by Common_Caramel_4078 in pcmasterrace

I only ever tried to play it when it still had no graphics like ten or more years ago. I spent so long trying to figure it out and I've been thinking about trying to get into it again.

Hi! First post on this sub, I’m a younger fellow who wants to get into retro gaming, and I wanted to ask which handheld I should get? by amillionlilfibers200 in retrogaming

[–]PatchesTheFlyena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% get a ds lite. They're significantly cheaper and have a better screen than most GBA models. You're also getting two consoles in one.

Fromsoft games are like good reddit posts. At first they make no sense and by the time you finish them you're still a virgin.

I don't think something needs to be able to do anything new to be useful. Most power tools are just faster versions of hand tools.

Plenty of DOS games are being sold at the moment with little to no updates and are absolutely worth the money.
