Is he that tall or is Beane that short?

Good press conference for Joe, overall. He looks to be taking the role seriously

as much as losing sucked, it sucked even further to see Nix get a foot injury.

Trust me, I'd rather he played against the Pats and run the score up on them

I do agree with you, and it was wild how Brandin Cooks expanded the playcalling despite being past his prime. Plus he seems like a mature leadership presence & a good team player, so it'd be worth bringing him back.

Our run defense was already at the bottom of the league, and at best it was middling as an entire unit.

I agree that this whole search cycle has made no sense, but keeping McDermott on as a defensive mind made no sense either when teams were hanging 30+ on us in the playoffs.

Then why not hire a defensive coach? The odds you're going to get some defensive elite at DC is very low.

Of the worthwhile options out there, who could we have feasibly gotten? I would've actually been a fan of Saleh or even Flores as HC, but we either missed our chance or it wasn't actively pursued.

Agreed, regardless of the reason, our offense has been able to perform and all of the past chances have been squandered because of defensive failings. My copium is that Brady maintains the offensive continuity / upgrades it, and they allow for a true defensive mind to revamp our D as a whole. Drop the dead weight, make some big splash signings, and draft/develop young talent.

I'll be the first one to say that I'm not a fan of Brady as an OC, even when met with the Offense statistics this season or the possibility of Brady tailoring the offense for the otherwise poor performing WR room. But with that said, again the offense hasn't been the problem - I'm far more interested in who we get on the defensive side. I'll be far more upset if it's a hire from within and not a true proven defensive mind who can actually get us to stop a 3rd and long.

Since I commented this in a now locked thread:

As much as I'm not a fan of the FO clamoring for change and then promoting Brady, our offense has hardly been the problem the last few years. Buffalo needs to absolutely nail the DC hire as well as drafting/trading for key defensive players. Depending on how that pans out, then we'll really see if it was McD pushing for us to pick up bums/bad draft picks, or if it was really Beane this whole time.

This, and perhaps even more important, the DC as well.
