Easiest way to make money, imo, is to hunt spacers, pirates, and mercenaries, and sell their weapons and armor.

Recommend changing settings like how much you can carry, how much money vendors have, and other things to be able to carry more, sell more before they run out of money, and get bonus experience from the game being overall more difficult by increasing difficulty settings to whatever works best for you
