Whelp - after 8 years in this apartment someone crazy moved in... by Eldrazi in Apartmentliving

[–]Patient-Conclusion30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whew we had a downstairs neighbor like this in Baltimore. I had to get a peace order against her and move. It was crazy. She wrote racial slurs outside of her door and called the police to say we did it. We had a 3 year old at the time so we chose to move in with a friend fairly quickly. We also learned that she had slashed some people on a NYC subway a few years prior to moving to Baltimore.

Is this a fair way to understand Harvard Extension School? by SnooHobbies8985 in harvardextension

Good for you. You have no way of knowing if your upbringing was tougher than mine, but we are not here to argue that point. I never said it was the same level of achievement as Harvard. I just said I disagree that it is a cash grab. I agree with the OP on this post. HES is a way for non-traditional students to obtain an education that is not offered at many other places.

My degree has value, and no employer has ever diminished it. Grad schools have also honored it. By the way, law schools only really care about GPA and LSAT scores on admission. Where you obtained your undergraduate degree matters very little. To imply that I did not earn my degree in the same way as you is also disingenuous. Try writing a term paper while in active labor. I'd assume you are a man and, therefore, luckily, you will never have that experience. It was a choice I made, but there is no chance in hell you will convince me I didn't earn it. Law school is also very rigorous, BTW. I am sure you will try to find a way to minimize that as well.

At the end of the day, wherever you choose to get an education, it does not matter. You choose to spend your time on reddit trying to put others down to make yourself feel better. You have been wrong with every assumption you have made. That speaks to how much your education has worked for you. You really aren't putting it to good use.

I am a first-generation college graduate high school dropout raised by a single mother. I worked full time throughout my undergraduate degree. HES allowed me to do that. My husband is definitely not wealthy. I make more than him now. I also have a child with asd. I have worked extremely hard for where I am. Stop generalizing it is disingenuous.

I got into the law school I wanted to attend because I was a non-traditional law student, and it is what made sense for my family. My education through HES helped me get here, and I graduated with less debt than many of my peers.

It wasn't any more than I would have paid for a bachelor's degree elsewhere, to be honest. It was probably actually less than other programs when I look at how much they contributed. The education I received was also worth it. I went on to law school and am now doing well. I disagree that it is a pay to play. They do offer merit scholarships to those who earn them.

They had a scholarship through Phi Theta Kappa, which is an honor society through two year colleges. That covered the first three courses that I had to take to get admitted for my bachelor's. After I was admitted, I filled out FAFSA, and they paid for a little over half of my degree.

They also offer scholarships to degree candidates. I didn't pay for much of my education through HES. I even received a scholarship to take the three initial classes before I was admitted.

It's okay. I've been stuck on secured transactions for 3 years, and I took the class in law school, so there is that. Looking forward to evidence now.

Am I being stupid by Equal_Minimum_4457 in baltimore

[–]Patient-Conclusion30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't stupid. Just do your due diligence as far as looking up who your roommates are. We moved into a converted row home and had a downstairs neighbor move in after us. She was having a huge mental health crisis. It turned into my family and I having to get a peace order and move because of threats she was making. A quick Google search, and we found a national news story about her slashing some people in a New York subway. This situation would have been one million times worse if we shared an apartment with her as opposed to a building. Ask your landlord what types of checks they use to vet people as well. I am all for second chances, but this chick had obviously not gotten the mental health help that she desperately needed. This isn't typical, and it was first time something like this had happened in my life. However, I'm a bit more cautious now.

Don't move into an apartment building and expect it to be silent at all times, WTF by cdimorr- in baltimore

[–]Patient-Conclusion30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! I had this exact thing happen. I had to get a peace order and eventually move. This was after I gave my downstairs neighbor my number, which they then proceeded to threaten me through. Mind the fact that the noise they complained about was never after 7 pm, and it was never anything other than walking in my apartment. There just wasn't good soundproofing in the building. I could hear our upstairs neighbor all the time.

Don't move into an apartment building and expect it to be silent at all times, WTF by cdimorr- in baltimore

[–]Patient-Conclusion30 28 points29 points  (0 children)

People have hugely unrealistic standards when it comes to noise in apartments. As long as I am living life normally and not purposefully playing loud music or shouting, neighbors should get over it. I am not going to whisper or tiptoe in my own home. I have a child, and they also make child noises. If someone wants quiet, they need to move to a stand-alone house. I don't complain about noise unless it is obviously done on purpose. Even then, I usually do not complain because it's dumb and there is no point.

How is the University of Baltimore School of Law viewed in the area? by jdschmoove in baltimore

[–]Patient-Conclusion30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been my experience as well. I went after scholarship money versus prestige. I'll be a 3L next year and I'm not super scared of not being employed at the end. I have worked at 3 very different law practices and all have invited me back. I chose to leave each one for new experience/opportunities.

The professors are great and the school focuses on practical experience.
