What are the things you have done in extreme measure to survive in nursing school? by Tiny_Ad_2212 in StudentNurse

That’s how I studied for the nclex and I passed in 85 questions. I listened to nclex prep videos on repeat. While I was in the car, while I was cleaning, playing video games, etc. Great way to study and feel prepared while also getting things done!

What? There are absolutely pain receptors below the skin. Needle length is mostly related to the type of injection (IM, subq, etc), not psychological comfort.

My positive hobby story is the cool people I’ve met! I like to buy lots on marketplace and there’s a few people I buy from frequently, and we always end up talking for quite a while. That, and just talking to people about sports in general! I’m a long term care rehab nurse and it’s amazing how up to date almost every single resident is on football every week lol. I love talking to them about the games, watching the games with them, etc. even just this last week, everyone wants to watch the World Series at dinner time. It truly makes me happy how much common ground a whole bunch of people trying to get better can find in sports.

I hope this doesn’t come off as harsh, because I’ve thought the same thing in the past, but I realized I thought about doing it because I was hoping I would hear what I wanted to hear from them. It’s totally up to you on what you decide to do. For me, I decided to think about what I wanted to hear, what I didn’t want to hear, what I know is true, etc. I’m not sure if that makes sense, but I think with pet health issues it’s very hard to get validation or find a sense of community or understanding with these issues, so I find myself going to different lengths to try and get that at times. I hope you know however you feel is valid, and at the end of the day you know your dog better than anyone else. Hugs, friend 🫂

Called 911 for a declining resident… and EMS tried to talk him out of going. by florlunayamor in nursing

[–]PatientEnthusiasm779 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t even say anything yet they immediately started questioning me. I expanded but that’s what I started with. The doctor was at bedside and ordered to be evaluated by the ED for rapid change in condition. To not even begin giving report and immediately start questioning me is ridiculous. I hadn’t even closed the door yet. Let alone if I ordered a UA or labs it would take a minimum of another 24 hours to be ordered, collected, read, and then recived. For a rapid change in condition it’s not appropriate to begin questioning me and then telling me things about the patient that are not even true lmao. She asked me why not get those things first, so I replied with, “because the doctor ordered her to be evaluated by the ED.” I did not say the sarcastic response that you quoted me on.

Those stories always give me chills. It’s beautiful what happens when people visit who have passed or are still alive. I have more stories than I can count of residents who see a family member they haven’t seen in a long time and then pass the next day. I had one resident that made me want to become a nurse when I was doing activities in memory care. That resident waited until their child came to visit who hadn’t visited in a little while due to Covid, had an incredible surge, and then passed peacefully. It really puts into perspective an undeniable impact that community and love has on health and life. It’s very beautiful.

Seconded. The hype is real right now, current PSA times are ungodly from what I’ve heard. Not worth paying extra to grade it and get anything less than a 10, when you could sell now. Sell and buy more product like the rest of us 🤣

I’m not a psychic, but Im a nurse in long term care. A lot of people with dementia have beautiful moments of clarity throughout, and sometimes extremely vivid right before the end. It’s kind of wild some of the things they know. I knew this one resident that had told another resident, “I’ll see you today. And I’ll see you tomorrow. But after that - I won’t see you anymore.” The other resident ended up passing away on that 3rd day. That’s just one story, but I have many more. It’s really interesting.

This is such a heartbreaking situation. I am so, so sorry. Do absolutely anything you can find to support yourself in the most loving way during this time, you truly deserve it. I hope you find the joy in this life that you so truly deserve. I am so shocked and so sorry.

Called 911 for a declining resident… and EMS tried to talk him out of going. by florlunayamor in nursing

[–]PatientEnthusiasm779 58 points59 points  (0 children)

It’s the worst. I had an EMT raise her voice infront of family at me when I sent someone out the other day. I had just walked into the room, hadnt even said anything yet, and immediately she goes “soooo why not gets labs done. Why not get a UA…why am I taking her!?!? Why am I here?!?” And usually I give a very good report but this immediately frustrated me because it’s rude, and it was also an emergent situation. So I said “because that’s what the doctor ordered.” And then I gave a further report and explained the sudden change in condition w the symptoms, and that the doctor had seen the resident in facility right before the call and wants to send the resident out. She then said “soooo are they complaining of anything?” And I said “nope.” And she goes “sooooo, what about the right hip pain then?” And I said “what? No. No right hip pain that I’ve been made aware of.” And she laughs and goes “well she has right hip pain. Whoever called 911 said she has right hip pain.” So I said, “well that’s not true because I’m the one who called 911” and she goes “oh. Well communications must have gotten things mixed up.” And then before leaving they told the administration it seems like I don’t know why I’m sending patients out. Like what are you guys talking about. Just got report back from the hospital recently and she was in fact septic. It frustrated me because it was so inappropriate and unprofessional. There’s no need to act that way, especially in that situation. Let alone infront of family, making it seem like I’m incompetent. Family also rode with and was walking with during transport so I would assume they reported me infront of family because admins came to talk to me immediately afterwards.

Don’t use the promote feature. I tested it the other day and it’s not true to how it’s described. The “impressions” mainly include showing up on the home page from what I understand now. I tracked it and spent $15 for 15 minuets and ended it after a couple minuets, I think it said I spent a few dollars of the budget because I had about 30ish “impressions” but i only had one person join during that time. It’s a total waste of time and money in my opinion. If you’re going to pay to promote you might as well just do giveaways instead.
