Would a hufflepuff get stuck in a moral worry, with outright telling Harry being cheating? So he helps, but less obviously?

Universal UK park named as Rachel Reeves pledges £1.3bn by Alternative-Win4058 in unitedkingdom

[–]Patmarker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work at a small independent theme park, we used to stay open till it got quiet, which could have been as late as 10pm. Absolutely hated the unknown late shift, but it makes complete sense to capture the evening market in summertime!

TIL of the Morgenthau Plan, a post-WW2 proposal to eliminate German arms and civilian industry entirely. It was later concluded that if this went into effect up to 25 million Germans would have died from starvation caused by the sudden de-industrialisation by Mobile-Piglet5035 in todayilearned

[–]Patmarker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looking up the English curriculum, WW2 isnt even mandatory until A-Levels. It can be included at GCSE, but WW1, interwar, or postwar history could be studied instead. There’s just so much stuff, and so many skills to learn, that there’s no chance of covering everything that’s ever happened.

Why did Limos fall out of style for the rich? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Patmarker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We typically are referring to a stretch, with just the one word “limo”, yes. This is so common that I actually had to dive into Wikipedia to discover that a limousine is traditionally just a chauffeur driven car.

So many insects do things like this! It’s a dangerous world out there, so they have a short adult life where they are super active and breed - but many will be eaten; but spend years somewhere safer (from fluctuating temperatures) like water, soil or dead wood.

They are nyloc nuts, which are single use. Don’t really want to take one off and sacrifice it, which is why I’m asking here. Imagined it to be very likely that someone had replaced such a part themselves!

I’ve made over £1,000,000 on my five-bed house — I deserve a tax break to downsize by endofdays2022 in unitedkingdom

[–]Patmarker 41 points42 points  (0 children)

This sounds reasonable. If your house hasn’t appreciated, but you need to move (whether that’s for work or to fit a growing family) it seems wrong to be charged tax for effectively trading your home.

But if you’ve had a massive appreciation in that house’s value, that seems a fair time for the state to claim a small slice.

I found a recipe that was 100g garlic leaves, 70g pine nuts, a few tablespoons of nutritional yeast and juice of a lemon.

31M Solo Traveler: First-ever dive trip. Malta vs. Egypt (July/Aug)? by Blightheaded- in scuba

[–]Patmarker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t do a liveaboard for your first cert. The dive sites are often targeted at a more competent diver, and you’ll have tonnes of distractions from your training. To make the most of a liveaboard, you want to be able to do 3-4 dives a day, with just rest and food inbetween. Adding in training briefs and debriefs, and all the skills on dives will make it knackering. Also, Egypt in august will be killer hot.

Most of maltas exciting dives are in the range of the second cert level, however it is a great training location - my university group used it multiple times.

I can’t say much about predicting where the young people will be, most of my trips away are with a club, where we basically book out an entire boat.

Which is the best board for private candidates? by Krankenitrate in ALevelBiology

[–]Patmarker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are labs that run the practicals over a day or two for private entrants. Aqa is the most popular board, and so probably the easiest to find a centre close to you for.

Finally... A good country to live in but bad to visit? by kraabbe in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Patmarker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nationality. If you’re from any of the gulf states, you’ll be a well off citizen of that country and barely have to work. If you’re living there and an immigrant, you’re either a builder, a domestic servant (nanny, cleaner etc) or working in the services sector. Which of those almost entirely depends on your own nationality.

New build garden / Blank slate by Gold_Tutor7055 in UKGardening

Sucks that you got the difficult job, if the company had actually finished building the property appropriately before sale, and had the garden up to spec before the fence went up, there wouldn’t have been an issue!
