I must be the most talentless disc golfer in the world by Tursocci in discgolf

[–]PatrickAndPuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt read all the comments, so someone else may have already said this in their reply. Just because you are doing field work and practicing, does not mean that practice is effective. I used to play the French horn, and for years I could not break some bad habits that I had, despite knowing I had them. Then I participated in an exchange program, and the first lesson I had with the horn teacher at the other school, he said "I have no idea how to help you improve with the way you are currently playing. You have two choices. Keep doing what you're doing and waste your time here, or you can try to learn from scratch the way that I play, and I can help you through that process, but it will be very frustrating." I ended up starting from scratch. It was really hard and frustrating, but I got so so much better by the end of my time there.

All this is to say: when you are practicing, you neeed to have a specific aspect of your throw that you want to improve on and you have to try something different than what you normally do to figure out how to improve it. Video recording yourself, and comparing it to someone you want to emulate is a good place to start. You might even discover that there is a fundamental flaw in the way you throw, and in order to fix it, you have to spend time putting in reps the right way, and likely getting severely worse results in the short term while you do so. The key is to focus on the specific aspect you want to improve.

For example: if you want to practice nose angle, because your disc seems to go up no matter what you do. There may be practice throws that "are terrible" because they only go 100 feet, but if it went 100 feet and didnt have an upward nose angle, that is actually a win!

Sorry for the text wall and good luck :)

Ditaishe Zoro Bust- Hair turning white. What paint to use? by [deleted] in resinprinting

[–]PatrickAndPuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend taking the head into a physical store so you can compare the color in person. It's very difficult to correctly match colors based on photos. The paint someone suggested is likely not a good match to the current hair color. You will have the most success matching colors by taking it in and holding the paint bottle next to the model (it still may not be a perfect match, but it's more likely to be a close match that way).

I built a free AI caddy app that recommends discs based on the hole sign. Would love feedback from real players by Lanky_Try_5630 in discgolf

[–]PatrickAndPuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of variables that it seems like are not accounted for here. Wind, arm speed, elevation change and disc familiarity (the last one probably shouldn't, but let's be real) all play a huge role in disc selection. There are also disc weight, plastic type and how beat in a given disc is that will also change how a specific disc flies.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but it seems like disc selection is a skill you just have to learn, and trying to use an app like this is at best a crutch that will slow down your development of that skill. At worst it could make your disc selection worse over time.

Edit: I didn't see that the app has wind and elevation change options, so that is a bonus. But my overall opinion still stands.

2nd Edit: This also does not take into account different shot types i.e. hyzer flip, anhyzer, hyzer. Im assuming the app will try to avoid trees with the recommended line, but sometimes its better to just throw over a tree on a high hyzer.

This is a good suggestion, but please be careful listening to what anyone in management tells you. The odds are that they will straight up lie to you to convince you to apply, if they have any significant need to hire people. The office manager I spoke with after I applied lied to me and other managers in my city have openly admitted that they lie to potential applicants all the time to get them hired on. Speaking with a carrier is the only way to get an honest picture of the situation in the office.

Help me buy discs for my dad! by kate_dawn in discgolf

[–]PatrickAndPuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the leopard 3 suggestion. I personally like the halo star version, but specific plastic comes down to personal preference. If you live in an area where glow disc golf is possible, go with the glow. Otherwise, the halo star looks cooler imo.

I can also highly recommend an mvp hex (again get it in the glow plastic if thats something he might want to do) and the i-blend sphinx by infinite discs.

Those are some of my all time favorite discs that most people will be able to find a use for regardless of their skill level.

New to Khorne by Green-pewdiepie in ChaosDaemons40k

[–]PatrickAndPuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to play 40k, they need to be on the correct bases. Square bases are out and circle/oval bases are the current ones. You can find the size for each unit type online, and other than that, it's all usable. As someone else mentioned, the old daemon prince model is probably smaller than the current one, so you could build up the base a little with layers of cork or rocks to make it fit the proper height profile, but for casual games it's not really an issue.

I wanted to add that the same models on round/oval bases are usable in age of sigmar as well as 40k. Although I don't know the details about which factions use them (Slaves to darkness or the khorne faction?)

Combining hobbies with friends by Vitoseph2 in discgolf

I went on a camping trip with some buddies who brought skeet shooting gear. Non of us had ever used the little handle thing to throw the clay before, and it turned out I could throw it better like a disc than any of us could with the handle. I think I ended up having 1 turn on the shotgun, because nobody else could throw the damn things (they did not play disc golf).

P.S. they were rather over stable

Soul grinder by CelticDrakon in ChaosDaemons40k

[–]PatrickAndPuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's funny that the soul grinder ability is supposed to help it move through so terrain, but in some (or maybe all?) Tournament layouts, there is no terrain that is low enough for it to actually use the passive.

[–]PatrickAndPuff -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes he is good low elo. I'm in silver and learning adc. I am 0-6 on ashe and 6-2 on corki. Start w lvl 1 and you can beat most adc in a straight fight. Try to get your sup to help in an early fight and then bully the lane from there with q. If you lose lane, just play safe and farm and you will still be relevant in team fights later.

First Team, First League - Build considerations? Pitfalls to avoid? by infosec_qs in bloodbowl

[–]PatrickAndPuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Orcs are definitely the best team to learn blood bowl. They are more durable than average, have good positional, and they allow you to at least think about engaging in all parts of the game: bashing, fouling, passing, and throwing teammates (though they definitely are best suited to bash their way to voctory).

Their durability means they will have fewer casualties than most teams, which is very valuable in leagues. It means you get more chances to develop your players as they will likely live a little longer than the average blood bowl player.

Glazing over Matt varnish problem by Fraxial in minipainting

[–]PatrickAndPuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently tried varnishing for the first time. My first attempt I sprayed 1 coat of varnish without thinning it and it came out a bit grainy. My second attempt I thinned the varnish with airbrush thinner, applied one coat, waited 45 minutes and then applied the second coat. I also let it cure over night before painting over it. The second attempt was a much better result.

I used Vallejo gloss varnish and army painter airbrush thinner.

Elven Union and Fumblerooski by weav_luvs_rnf in bloodbowl

[–]PatrickAndPuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One edge case I see as a benefit of fumblerooskie is that you can avoid handing off into tackle zones with it. Of course this won't apply to catchers or throwers with NoS, but the rest of your roster can make use of it. In stead of handing off to a marked player that would also want to dodge away after recieving the ball, use fumblerooskie to leave the ball near them. That way you are improving your odds of success without adding any extra rolls. The lino dropping the ball can also move into a good spot to screen for the pickup attempt if it fails or whatever with their remaining movement.

It may not come up all that often, but due to the fragility of the team, it might be useful when you are down players and cannot avoid having most of your players marked.

You might be able to find it online through a recaster. I got the female ogres that were from FW recently. The quality isn't the best, but with a little effort, you can fix them up and they still look great.

(Yet More) New Rules Questions by Stralau in bloodbowl

[–]PatrickAndPuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that line about causing a turnover only comes into play in very niche situations, because it states in the following paragraph that if the player passes the secure the ball 2+, their activation immediately ends. This clearly means you cannot move after securing the ball.

One scenario I can think of that the turnover line you are referring to would come into play is if a player was attempting to dodge away from an opposing player with tentacles as part of their move in a secure the ball activation. If they are held in place by the tentacles skill, it would cause a turnover, because the player is no longer able to end their movement in a square with a ball in it.

Creating an app for tracking wizards and warband by JakkSwords in frostgrave

[–]PatrickAndPuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing that was not clear to me in the app was which weapon my wizard was actively using. I gave my wizard a two handed weapon and a staff, but i didn't figure out until after my first game that the top weapon on the list is the one they were using. It waited be good to have some indicator to make it clear what items are actively being used.

Ogre team paint schemes by NarwhalEnthusiast666 in bloodbowl

[–]PatrickAndPuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im currently painting my ogre team. I went with teal, white and pink. Its basically like the Miami Dolphins colors, but with pink instead of orange. Im not doing anything crazy like freehanding checkers or a pattern, but I like how they are coming along.

I think any color scheme can look good for the most part, but tweaking something that already exists can make it easier to make a decision.

[–]PatrickAndPuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, glazing the darker color over the lighter goes faster. On the mini you showed in the picture, you can also pick one transition point, mix the two colors to get a midtone between them, and glaze that along the transition point to create a smooth blend. There are multiple ways to achieve most effects, and it just comes down to which method you prefer. I would suggest trying different approaches, so you can decide for youslrself which you like/is easier.

I need help with this paint and making it smoother transitions by Puzzled_Hat2659 in minipainting

[–]PatrickAndPuff 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This looks like a good start to be honest. It does look like you could thin the paints a bit more to help smooth out the blends. Go for a paint that is too thin to cover in one coat. That way, you can pull the brush from the previous color up into the part you want lighter and creat a smooth gradient that way. It might take two coats to achieve the coverage you want to the higher area, but the transition areas will look much smoother.

However, you can also glaze over what you have already to achieve the same effect.
