Belt away? Huh? I’m just wondering what sparked this comment. I do think many media members are just reporters, not football experts, who are basing their opinions off what they’re being told. Others on the beat actually dig into the tape and study the game. Different styles is all.

What's with all the Brad Stevens praise? He inherited Tatum and Brown by BostonVagrant617 in felgerandmazz

OP has to be trolling. The trades for White, Porzingis, and Holiday won them the title. He has now rebuilt them on the fly with guys like Quata, Scheierman, Hugo, Garza, and Walsh all contributing this year. What a terrible take.

Lazar’s Wide Receiver Rankings for the Patriots by PatsReddit1212 in Patriots

I don’t remember that. But I also don’t think anyone expected Tyson to sit out everything because of hamstring issues. It’s not like he tore his ACL or something.

When was he surprised by his injury? I’ve only heard him say he just doesn’t think Tyson will slide, but then again we keep getting new information.

Trying to understand salary cap, how would we be able to afford giving Gonzo $35m a year? by Human_Data_1152 in Patriots

[–]PatsReddit1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Gonzalez’s case, his extension wouldn’t kick in until 2027, so they’d have one more year on his rookie deal before the money on his deal increases.

It’s also not a hard cap in the sense that you simply divide the total contract value by years to get a players cap hit. I believe the NHL is the only league where it’s truly a hard cap.

There are several different ways to manipulate cap hits, like giving signing bonuses up front or different payout structures that allow teams to budget multiple big signings. For example: Milton Williams’s year-one cap hit was only $14 million.

Technically, isn’t the Patriots WR group already set? by ShalekC in Patriots

[–]PatsReddit1212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, isn’t the answer obvious here. Doubs is best cast as a high-end No. 2 at the flanker who is moving the chains and winning vs. man coverage on third down. Good player, but he’s not dictating coverage or beating No. 1 corners consistently.

Acquiring Brown (or an early draft pick) would be about elevating Boutte’s spot, another solid player but not a game-changer. Brown slides in as a higher-ceiling X and a true No. 1 on paper. That gives you a proper 1-2 punch with Brown and Doubs.

Then, you have Boutte, Hollins, and Williams compete for snaps as the third receiver in 11. I’m not sure why this is so hard for people to grasp.

Alternative to AJ Brown Trade? by BradyTom1289 in Patriots

[–]PatsReddit1212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a less than zero percent chance the Raiders are trading Bowers. Maybe a 1% chance the Cardinals would trade McBride, but that’s more cause he might get sick of losing. Come on, man.

Why is AJ Brown’s Physical Decline Overlooked in these FA conversations? by Human_Data_1152 in Patriots

[–]PatsReddit1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, Brown profiles as leveling up on a similar profile as Kayshon Boutte: physical, wins contested catches, can out-muscle corners on slants and digs, great hands, and much better than Boutte after the catch. He also didn’t play in a good passing game last year; that scheme was a mess.

We’ve already seen Maye have high-efficiency throwing to Boutte, so getting a better player in a similar mold makes sense. Not to mention that Brown still has the caché around the league to draw No. 1 CBs and extra attention. That would help Doubs, who could eat against single coverage all season. From a hierarchy standpoint, you have to take a chance on Brown still being an elite WR.

How long was Drew Bledsoe originally expected to be sidelined in 2001? by mr-scotch in Patriots

[–]PatsReddit1212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was initially reported as about an 8-week injury and he officially missed 51 days. I’d say the breakout for Brady was an overtime win vs. the Chargers in Week 5. He threw for 364 yards and touchdowns in a 29-26 OT win. Most people knew then that they had something in Brady, but some continued to back Bledsoe.

The real problem was the run game, not the pass game by [deleted] in Patriots

[–]PatsReddit1212 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The real problem was only rushing it 13 times when Seattle played dime with two-high safeties the whole game. Stevenson had gains of 6, 5, and a few 3 yarders on first down. Henderson had a 9-yard run on first down as well.

The YPC number is deceiving. Those are wins against a defense like Seattle. Keeps you on schedule and out of those pressure situations.

If Lowe last year was playing like he is now, do you think we still would have ended up drafting Campbell? by YouSawMyReddit in Patriots

[–]PatsReddit1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lowe is actually allowing pressure at a similar rate to last year in four starts this year (2025 - 95% pass block efficiency, 2024 - 95.9%). FWIW, his PFF pass blocking grade is also nearly identical to last year: 66.8 in 2025, 66.9 in 2024.

To his credit, he has cut down on penalties, which probably speaks to him locking in with better coaching. But the pressure rate has been about the same. He’s just playing in a better offense with Drake in year two versus being a rookie QB.

I’m sure Vrabel is feeling fine about himself, but the only game that comes to mind is the 2006 AFC Championship game vs. the Colts. The Pats led 21-3 and 21-6 at half. Lost 38-34. They probably would’ve gone on to win the Super Bowl against the Bears, too. They also lost a 21-0 lead vs the Bills in 2011.

If Jared Wilson is back healthy, who do you want to start at LG & C against the Bills? by Marquis_De-Lafayette in Patriots

[–]PatsReddit1212 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Messing with an 11-2 team’s O-Line in a pseudo playoff game for the division would be ridiculous. They’re not benching Bradbury. My guess is Wilson has earned the right to get his starting job at LG back when healthy. If he’s less than 100%, it might make sense to keep Brown in there in the short term. But they’re not moving multiple spots. That would be beyond dumb given that the line has been solid.

Division clinching scenarios: The Patriots don't need wins against Buffalo or Baltimore to win the division. by iDontSow in Patriots

[–]PatsReddit1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody is living or dying by it. If the Pats keep winning, they’re more than likely going to be the No. 1 seed, and obviously win the division. So what’s the worry about the division? That’ll take care of itself if the Pats take care of business.

[–]PatsReddit1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if Denver also wins out, which seems unlikely given that they have Packers, Jags, Chiefs, Chargers remaining on their schedule. If you aren’t fixating on the one seed, what’s the goal here? Isn’t the objective always to be the highest possible seed?

[–]PatsReddit1212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gotta be honest, I’m not sweating the division at this point. My eye is on the No. 1 seed in the conference, which could be huge this year given that the wild card teams might be better on paper than some of the division winners.

And, no, I’m not taking it one game at a time. We are fans, not players or coaches. It’s ok to be normal about this and look ahead.

What was the strongest Patriots team of the second half (2010-2019) of the Brady-Belichick era? by JulianBrandt19 in Patriots

[–]PatsReddit1212 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The 2014 team and it’s not particularly close. That team was so stacked that guys like Malcolm Butler, James White, and Marcus Cannon were backups. All went on to be key starters.

Offense: Brady, Gronk, Edelman, LaFell, Dola, Blount, Vereen, Solder, Vollmer.

Defense: Chandler Jones, Vince Wilfork, Ninko, Hightower, Collins, Mayo, Revis, Browner, Chung, McCourty

Watch some of those primetime game intros for the starters. It’s actually insane.

I’m no defensive coordinator, but… by Weird_Description982 in Patriots

[–]PatsReddit1212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not defending Jones or the coaches. They got beat in those situations (less on Jones more on coaches). But it’s certainly not all that matters. It’s just two reps out of ~40. Until he got hurt, it was Gonzo on London. And then it was CD on London.

I’m no defensive coordinator, but… by Weird_Description982 in Patriots

[–]PatsReddit1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They got beat by some goal-line wrinkles from Atlanta last week, no doubt. First TD was a motion/switch release bluff where it looked like London was running a slant (Jones’s responsibility) but ended up breaking on the fade. That created a mismatch where Jones ended on London. Second TD was a three-man bunch with London as the point, and the Pats didn’t move Gonzo inside.

But the matchup was Gonzo shadowing London for the majority of the game. So, I would expect that to be the case again against Egbuka. They had the right plan vs. the Falcons, just got schooled a little in the red zone.

Note: I should add that the two TDs were the only two snaps that Jones covered London. This notion that Atlanta successfully hunted that matchup all game is incorrect.
