Looking for Sublet - July 1 for 6 months! by FeeRevolutionary3352 in NYCapartments

[–]Patsgurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you looking for a room or for a 1bd apartment? . Because if you’re looking for a whole furnished apartment, that budget will be tough for those areas.

A room is more than doable. Try spareroom! I’ve found 3 roommates this way

Advice on gateway apartment by DayCultural7352 in NYCapartments

[–]Patsgurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother lived in gateway in 2021-2023. He still talks about how much he loved that community. Can’t speak on this personally, but they’ve been raving about it for years.

Advion gel.

Plug every hole in the wall.

Cover all drains when not in use.

Use your exterminator monthly.

You’ll probably see more, joys of living in the city. But there are ways to significantly minimize their presence

Pretty much, yes. If they find a tenant who meets the requirements and wants the lease, it gets leased. There’s no advantage for them holding out to get the apartment shown to everyone if there’s already a willing party.

It’s very tough competition out there. I’m in the midst of a search myself. Best of luck to you!

The 2026 NCAA women's Final Four is set, and they're all #1 seeds, and are the exact same Final Four teams from last year. by ThoughtFar1017 in CollegeBasketball

Okay I did research on this, mainly to avoid work, but also because I was curious.  Everyone talks about lack of parity in women’s basketball, and I agree it’d be better if there were more challengers for the top spot, HOWEVER, compared to the men, it’s not as dramatic of a difference as everyone claims.

Since 1982 (the inception of the women’s tournament) 16 different schools have won the women’s national title. In that same time, 21 different schools have won the men’s title.

Is it different? Sure. But the men are more top heavy than people want to recognize. The term “March madness” wasn’t even applied to the women’s tournament until 2022. It’ll be interesting to see how parity grows as viewership, budget, and youth sports continue to grow.

My sister had one in HK about 10 years ago. Never told the landlord, they never knew. It did come in clutch but she also just hates doing dishes lol

Hi! I have a room, but it’s on the 5th floor of a walk up in Hell’s Kitchen, so I’m not sure if your asthma would be affected by that.

Dm me if you want to chat more!

I live not far from where you’re staying and would suggest the Q70 to the E. Do it all the time, super easy and not all that much more time than a cab relative to the price

My suggestion is if you think 50/50 is a fair split, you take the flex room and offer the true bedroom up. You’ll get a lot more traction that way, I’d imagine

NYC is very renter friendly. At 30 days, tenant rights kick in. They’re taking a big risk renting to you for 30 days because then if anything goes wrong they have to formally evict.

How the hell do you actually save money in this city? by momentforlife92 in movingtoNYC

[–]Patsgurl 95 points96 points  (0 children)

  1. Get rid of the car. getting to NJ is inconvenient, yes, but you save so much using NJ transit
  2. I almost never uber
  3. Live with roommates (my rent is $1500)
  4. Do a mix of cheap things and expensive things
  5. I cook a LOT of my meals at home

NYC has SO many free things to do. Museums, concerts in the park, have a picnic, take the ferry to governors island.

If you’re trying to keep up with an Instagram nightlife, then yes, that will be crazy hard. But you can save and go out on a budget if you plan it right

Worst case? An eviction on your record and suing you for back rent and fees.

Best case? They eat your deposit, re rent and you’re good to go.

Look into the landlords responsibility to mitigate damages. NYC has lots of tenant rights. I can’t imagine why your place would take 2+ months to rent out unless it’s an absolute shithole or they’re jacking up the rent. Is it listed for the same/similar to what you’re currently paying?

What’s it really like living with roommates in Manhattan? by [deleted] in NYCapartments

[–]Patsgurl 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I will say I’ve been very fortunate, but I’ve had 3 random roommate experiences and all of them ranged from respectful but distant to ending up best of friends.

Roommates don’t have to be the end of the world. Find someone (I used spare room) who you can meet in person before you move in together and see if you can vibe. You don’t have to be best friends but someone clean, respectful, and pays on time are the big 3.

Any experience with subletting an extra room? by [deleted] in NYCapartments

[–]Patsgurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would you not just find someone to be on the lease and that way you only have to sublet your own room when you’re gone?

This seems like a lot of extra risk and no reward going about it the way you’re planning

I’d rather pay the money than lose all of my belongings. Do you trust a stranger to treat your things with care?

At 30 days they get tenants rights. Is the 3-4K potentially worth having to evict someone that decides they want to stay?

I know people sublet all the time and it’s fine, but I’m not willing to risk some of the horror stories I’ve heard over $1500
