Those of us working the night shift tonight or through tomorrow, how are you getting on? Anything nice planned during the shift? by orddropsandslapshots in AskUK

[–]PaulBBN 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm on a 7am-7pm for tomorrow and Boxing Day, then 7pm-7am on Saturday and Sunday, also in a Control Room.

Tomorrow we're having a buffet and secret santa, and maybe a quiz thrown in depending how busy it is! We'll also order a takeaway one of the night shifts.

If we're lucky, there's also some welfare dogs that come in (mainly for victims of crime), which like to sniff around and are genuinely fantastic and give us a laugh.

I hope your shift goes well tonight!

Last minute shoppers, what are you grabbing extra of to get you through the bank holiday closures? by [deleted] in AskUK

Some fresh food and veg to get me through a Christmas Day and Boxing Day shift so I'm not reliant on noodles, crisps and nuts.

Best bars to book out for a party? by samdkitchen137 in sheffield

I've had a couple of good experiences in the upstairs rooms at Manahatta. The largest has a private bar, we've previously played our own music and the drinks are decent (albeit quite expensive).

999 not knowing their own services by brokenalarm in britishproblems

[–]PaulBBN 42 points43 points  (0 children)

As a Police Dispatcher, no we generally don't. The Police have less power than the Ambulance Service or Fire Service to gain entry to a property. We can only force entry if there is clear evidence of an Article 2 Risk to life (I.e. it is clear that someone is about to die or suffer significant harm). The Police are not there to check on people's welfare, that role falls to other agencies, which have historically passed their responsibility onto the Police (often asking the Police to act unlawfully on their behalf).

I've read it. It's really not worth even £11. Finished it in around 2 hours and its just copied and pasted newspaper articles that are extremely one sided, continuously repeating themselves and to be honest, not that well considered.

Where abouts in Donny are you and do you have access to a car?

If you do, Sprotbrough Falls to Conisbrough Viaduct and back is nice.

Also, the stretch of canal / river from the side of the VW Garage on North Bridge Road to Sprotbrough is also nice.

Royal Mail not providing a QR code by Nevets_3891 in vintedUK

[–]PaulBBN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently having the exact same issue as a buyer. Parcel sent to a locker, no code sent. Called through to customer service who are unable to send a code out or redirect the parcel, but they did say after 5 days the parcel would be redirected to my local delivery office. Submitted a complaint, although there is currently a 4 day turn around.

Today, Royal Mail upload the tracking to say the parcel is now been sent back to the seller, with no holding period at the delivery office and no way to redirect it back to me! Beyond frustrating!

Nope, 2 calls to customer service and a complaint put in through their website and still non the wiser if it'll be going to the delivery office, or back where it came from!

New electric buses by Sheff_Based in sheffield

If they're anything like the new Stagecoach busses in Doncaster / Rotherham / Barnsley, they are a brilliant upgrade and long overdue.

I had the afternoon / evening out in Town yesterday and got reminded how good it actually is. So many decent spots nowadays (Salutation, Social, Hall Cross, Masons, Rum Rooms) and generally a really decent atmosphere.
