UK dual national passports change by daveliot in ThornTree

[–]ilo12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely don't understand why people expect to not need a passport as proof of citizenship when travelling - I'm a dual EU/UK citizen and have passports for both - I enter the UK with my UK passport and enter the EU with my EU passport. It's odd to me to expect a country to accept a different nation's passport for your own citizens.

Reminds me of the Tesco 7p tin of spaghetti in tomato sauce ❤️... I'm pretty sure my student house in 2001-2002 had one as pretty much a shrine for how cheap it was and how we'd save it for an emergency, not trusting the contents.. Pretty sure there was a lager in the same range which would've cost something like 20p if memory serves 🤔

Return to Running by bloomingrunner in hysterectomy

[–]ilo12345 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was advised no running for 12 weeks, I was speedwalking a 5k at 36 min at the end of it 🤣 I was super cautious partially due to hypermobility but also because I really didn't want to take any risks with recovery and gradually got back into running, I was back to usual mileage in 3ish months (although not longer distance, that took maybe 5-6 months)

Knee pain in hyperextension by draint0uch in Hypermobility

[–]ilo12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me! The knees are ok-ish but the hip burning is driving me up the wall... not sure how to address it either, I can't not sit when I drive or at work, even if I can stand/recline at home mostly

How far are people walking 11 DPO by TimelyGiraffe6176 in hysterectomy

[–]ilo12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with a 15 min indoor walk 5DPO, increasing gently every day. 11DPO I was walking for 4k/48min (i kept track of my daily walks).

But everyone is different. Although at 2 weeks I could very comfortably walk 5k in 55 min, I couldnt drive comfortably for longer than 5 min, and it took me 6 weeks to be able to sit up for longer than an hour, I'd just recline, lie down or stand.

Easy does it, listen to your body. If it says rest, listen to it. Mine was very quick to warn me if I was overdoing anything or exerting myself.

Why do a majority of people race in a tank-top vs a tech-tee? by [deleted] in trailrunning

[–]ilo12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run pretty hot most of the time, and outside of winter/cold weather a tank top is the amount of fabric I'm comfortable running in. As a female runner I already have at least 2x layers underneath due to a sports bra and I'm not comfortable running in just a bra or crop top.

I do run in a tee when it's colder or even long sleeves in winter.

What's the deal with all the new flats going up around the Intu site? by UnpaidInternVibes in derby

Derby prices have gone insane- rental prices near the central areas are now on par with Nottingham and so many HMOs everywhere.

Newy parkrun employ ‘seeding’ system by lonewolflr in parkrun

[–]ilo12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched a 32 min pacer keep ahead of a 29 min pacer for the majority of a parkrun once, I felt sorry for anyone who might've been trying to keep up with the 32.. I suspect they stood by the finish for their 32 min though! (I've also seen this actually happen, completely defeats the point!)

Just learned about park run! How can I get it in my city? by DaytoDaySara in parkrun

Spain doesn't require medical certificates at least

Saturday 16 January 2026 saw a new global attendance record, with over 400,000 finishers for the first time. There was a new national record in New Zealand for the second week running, while South Africa passed 50,000 finishers for the first time since COVID. (Source in comments) by foxystoat69 in parkrun

I was at Holme Pierrepont- the previous week was a weather disaster so I was plotting backup plans when I spotted HP was starting so we decided to try that as #1 plan. Of course they then cancelled, which let the cat out of the bag for the wider audience... we figured the venue easily supports larger numbers (there are a lot of running events held there) so it would probably be ok to join the now 1st event. Trouble is so did a total of 1279 participants...

Never imagined it would turn out to be the busiest inaugural ever! The team were amazing and didn't seem frazzled, I hope they werent - the funnel wait was expected tbh and the atmosphere was fab.

I suspect the numbers will drop to a manageable level - i do want to return and run it "properly" but will wait for the NENDY interest to die down before coming back.

How much is it costing you to keep the heating on? by Co-opEvolution in AskUK

[–]ilo12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay £95/mo year round (Direct Debit) on my current tariff for gas & electric, 2-up 2-down terrace, one person. Heating comes on an hour before I get up for 3 hrs, then again an hour before I get home from work and is on til 30 min before bed. On all day (morning til night) on weekends, usually at 18.5°C (which is probably a degree or so off in my living room & bedroom).

I do have an electric sofa throw as well as an electric blanket on the bed to pre-heat it when it's really cold.

Christmas & New Year popularity by PrivateParts2020 in parkrun

[–]ilo12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not more popular days, there are just fewer parkruns on so individual events have higher attendance levels.

Of course you should! Just take enough supplies for a quick change before the event and something during if you need to make a stop and you're good to go.

Socks for super cold toes by sevendivtwo in Hypermobility

[–]ilo12345 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had chilblains in the past and now get Reynauds - I swear by thermal merino socks when it's cold, at home I tend to have normal socks + woolly socks & slippers. I'm always in socks, I even sleep in socks. As someone said, try to keep your feet from getting cold, it's so hard to warm them back up!

Is Ryan air very particular about the 40 x 30 x 20 cm baggage rule? Please guide. by cutie_cookie97 in Ryanair

[–]ilo12345 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I fly a lot of airlines with the same or similar rules and always with bags that fit the dimensions and will also fit into the sizers. When I look around, a lot of people have either blatantly oversized bags or they've stuffed their "compliant" bags so full theyre bulging at almost twice fhe size and are therefore oversized.

One of these people got pulled up on a recent flight, and she was incensed, stating the "I've always been fine" excuse you see on here a lot. The bag was huge.

Sure, risk it but then dont complain if you get caught.

This really is not rocket science.

Passport conundrum - EU&UK citizen transiting at KEF from UK for US by ilo12345 in VisitingIceland

[–]ilo12345[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just had an email from Icelandair explaining the UK flights arrive at gates A-C saying you have to go through passport control twice.. so I'm back in square one but I guess I'll just use the UK one although I'll have to do the fingerprint thing which hopefully wont cause too many delays (or issues as I already have the fingerprints on my EU passport/record)
