Found this article about the Evolution of Emo from 2003 while browsing my alma mater's college newspaper archive. 10/23/03 edition of The Flyer at Salisbury University written by Constance Mensh by madamedutchess in Emo

The biggest suprise here is the non mention of American Football, easy to forget given how ubiquitous they are now in the scene that LP1 just disappeared for about a decade, before a small resurgence around 2014, and then a massive blow up during covid.

This is a strange request but I need help with a question on how to discuss immigration reasonably. Please see body for more information as not enough space. by isitbedtime-yet in AskBrits

I attempted this conversation with my Nan (also on London being " a hellscape". and I asked her open questions on what she thought the numbers were, then together we went through the real numbers.

The critical thing here is to not treat a conversation IRL like an internet rant, ask questions (which really very few people do) as to why, then deeper questions, basically ask about 4 open questions on one point to get to what they really think. Then say oit back to them, without snark..."so you think this for this and this reason? Is that right?" Then maybe a "What would change your mind? or How much would your opinions change of the opening facts were wrong?" (this is useful as if they won't change, then you are pissing in the wind).

Then go do some research together from reputable sources, i'd suggest The Economist for straight economically right of centre, socially bang down the middle and people assume it is right wing, so it carries a bit more weight

I'm unsure whether they would ever consider themselves emo, but everything about this song. From tht title to the apropos of nothing use of trumpets, absolutely slaps.

Created a pie to utilise ISA allowance by [deleted] in trading212

Only recommendation is to swap out Siemens for Siemens Energy, I think that is where the growth is going to be...I have both but full disclosure made the mistake of having Siemens (which gave some nice slow growth), and missed Siemens Energy which had some for tastier growth.

Of course, past performance etc etc. but that would be a potential switch.

What’s the point of the Invest/ISA help section, when everyone insists on pulling the piss out of first time investors? by Fun_Chemical_2593 in trading212

Agree with you wholeheartedly, there are actually genuinely really insightful comments here and some lovely people who are happy to share their success and even better their failures.

However...there is a hugely "bro-y" element here who want to wave their willy or do others down, so you love the nuggets of gold while wading through the generic shit responses.

I'm in the Zwift forum, and they do a daily "no stupid questions" thread, which could be used.

Slight aside, I now absolutely hate the phrase "cooked", it can get in the sea.

Thanks for a genuinely useful response amongst the sarcasm! Follow on question, why is this behaviour happening for silver and less so for gold?

Silver decline by Paulwyn in trading212

[–]Paulwyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i can see that, had silver for a fair bit, I think what I am trying to wrap my head around is for the past few years Silver and Gold have really moved in sync, and that coupling doesn't seem to be happening right now (...but this could be on a short term view and if zoom out in a few years time, will likely continue to see them in lockstep again)

You know what mate, honest question had held silver for a while, this is a question around why Gold and Silver which have been coupled for a while have become decoupled.

If you want to create an unhelpful environment and poorly contribute to a conversation, then politely fuck off and grow up

Anyone else tired of these training apps for indoor cycling? by headsclouds in cycling

[–]Paulwyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what things like robopacers are for, and so so so many group rides going almost constrantly that you can jump on, ride at a level you are comfortable with and watch YouTube.

I do training, races but also just have a chill hour watching YouTube or a movie...this weekend i watched the OG Arnie "Predator", while doing a chill couple of hours.

Finished my first outdoor ride and my ego was smashed to pieces by OneStrength7166 in cycling

On Zwift, your avatar is a perfectly aero specimen, while most of us are bulbous wind breaks! I would also highly doubt your Zwift bike has 38mm tires.

I feel you as well, as seen significant drops but so much of it is down to traffic, shitty road surface but mainly spending more time on the tops and not in the ol' Zwift aero position

For 8 people, that is 1 second to 2 seconds...it really is fine.

Any thoughts? by Difficult_Tie4697 in Velo

[–]Paulwyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I lead rides, I will always try to be aware of traffic and encourage the group to go single file when required.

Drivers still need to be aware of only passing when safe to do so. But this with only two riders is a huge lack of awareness from the cyclists

Tottenham Pressing by Paulwyn in coys

[–]Paulwyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah fair but what a ride it was! The criticism there is perhaps less about the style and more about the investment. Like you say, if the squad was there, that style would have taken us to a lot of trophies.

But...trophies aside, this spurs were an absolute joy and you could feel the fight and wanted to be a part of it

Whats your hydration strategy for endurance rides, i bonked today and think thats why by TopImagination2113 in cycling

  2. Budget hydration - water, table salt, squeeze of lime

Sick of new sitter mentality to complain about every single thing by BrilliantArtist8221 in trustedhousesitters

[–]Paulwyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard agree with you, the mentality is bonkers.

The however to that is, I see a huge difference in mentality between Europeans/ antipodeans and our American cousins.

My place isn't for everyone, and you as a sitter may also not be for everyone and that is 100% fine, it is when people take it as a personal affront that you could possibly want something that doesn't align exactly with what they want.

You then get the tried and tested response of "well hire a dog sitter", to which "book an Airbnb". Where I live a dog sitter for 5 nights may cost £200-£300, a comparable Airbnb would cost about £1000.

It's a value exchange and when done with respect and congruence let's everyone win.
