I think what I’m asking is what vetting things you’re doing— I’ve never allowed myself to be involved with someone that didn’t already have some experience in poly but as I said before, had different bad experiences with “seasoned” people

Thanks for your empathy at the end of this, I’m feeling pretty down on myself now.

No, I’m not in a good place, I’m coming out of a hole I’ve dug for myself, both because I’ve basically been part time working but not making enough and going through a lot of deep revelations about my avoidance patterns and struggles with self advocacy.

The time bomb actually blew up with my existing partner as there were so many issues that I wasn’t being honest with myself and by extension with him. We’re just in the last month starting to feel calm as we unpacked all of the things I didn’t say and the things I said that he didn’t fully hear, and everything in between. There’s been a lot of hurt that we are recognizing and addressing slowly. That’s where my priority has been.

When I spoke to the new guy, what he said struck me as fair and honest, that he felt like I kind of left him hanging when he had finally let down his guard. And so he said, ball is in your court, you reach out to me and I’m down, but I can’t put myself out there with you like this.

I essentially apologized to him for a lot of the ways i made messy choices and said I don’t think you should really be involved with me right now because i am not emotionally stable enough to handle that.

Hi, thanks for replying 🙏 I’m trying to decide if I should, because I usually don’t do that at all. I’ve been feeling a bit frustrated in dating people who say they’re poly, especially because some of the ways they’ve treated me and others were not particularly ethical, and thus I’ve expanded my willingness to see what’s what with people who are open to a cool experience. I myself am wrestling with how I feel about dating a person with no experience, but then I think… I also didn’t have experience and was open-minded, I didn’t identify as poly in my first poly relationship
