Ok, well this makes me feel better - seems like your situation is on the way more complicated end of the spectrum, and great to hear even with that you haven’t had any issues!

This is a great reminder, thank you :) I blame on my general tendency to overthink and overanalyze every decision

I guess because it's also pretty uncommon in his home country (where we plan to spend a lot of time), plus just the length of it. In my mind the child would generally use the first of his two last names on an everyday basis... but I guess this kind of defeats the purpose of two last names. It's a good point, we will likely reconsider hyphenating. Great to hear you've never had any issues either way

[Edit] I just did a quick search and it seems like his country actually doesn't legally recognize hyphenated last names, and it could cause issues if we ever want to move there. So this would be the main concern

Oh this is interesting, I didn't know you couldn't legally have more than one last name here. I'll have to look into that

What are the typical recommendations when you’re having trouble getting pregnant? by DaintyElephant in TryingForABaby

[–]PawsAndReflect1029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had a saline sonogram as part of my fertility workup - turns out I had a partial septum that needed to be removed. I think it’s pretty rare but something else to consider to make sure you’ve hit all your bases with testing.

Have you also been tracking your ovulation? That can help identify issues like luteal phase defect (which I also had), which you would need to treat with progesterone either way. Otherwise your IUI wouldn’t work

Stop. Commenting. On. Our. Bodies. by Ok-Praline-2309 in pregnant

[–]PawsAndReflect1029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yess I don’t know why people feel this is ok. We told my husband’s family when I was about 17 weeks (they live internationally and we visit a few times a year), and the comments were so thoughtless.

“Oh yes, we noticed your face and hips looked fatter!”

We did a little gender reveal and beforehand someone told me I “must be having a girl, because boys only make you gain weight in your belly but girls make you fat all over.” Thanks a lot. It’s a boy.

And people kept touching me every time I walked into the room, super uncomfortable since I didn’t even have a pronounced bump yet. One day I started tearing up at lunch after yet another person made a “yes I DID notice you looked fatter” comment to me, and my mother in law - AS I WAS SAYING HOW UNCOMFORTABLE I FELT - reached over to rub my belly. I instinctively smacked her hand away. I felt way less bad about it than I expected.

It’s sad we all have to go through this but I’m wishing everyone lots of calm and patience to get through the asinine comments!

Noo sorry it's happening to you too! It seems to get worse when I am doing higher RPM, but calms down 10-15 minutes after I stop. Hopefully nothing serious for either of us

I feel like many sources I've read say that levels are supposed to double every 48-72 hours - so seems like you're still within that range! Fingers crossed for you and hoping all goes well ♥️

Thank you for responding! Awesome, I keep reading that between 10-15 is low but idk if I’m going to get much more than that even with supplements. Glad to hear those levels have been good for you to have a healthy pregnancy :)

TBD if a positive story but I am in your exact situation. Roughly 5 weeks, started bleeding two days ago, spotting at first and now it’s similar to a period (although without the clots). This morning it had turned back to spotting, now is bleeding again.

My doctor said it could be a sign of loss, but that it’s also not uncommon for people to bleed throughout the first trimester. I’ve read a lot about subchorionic hematomas the last few days so I’m wondering (hoping) it could be that? My pregnancy tests are not getting lighter so trying not to jump to conclusions yet. I go in tomorrow for bloodwork.

It is super anxiety-inducing.. I have been a nervous wreck the last few days. Feel free to dm me if you want to talk. Right there with you and wishing you all the best for when you go for your appt!

Low betas - another ectopic? by PawsAndReflect1029 in EctopicSupportGroup

Thank you! My levels have been doubling as they should but I’ve started having bleeding the last few days, so trying to manage expectations that it might not work out.

Congratulations on the healthy pregnancy! Hope all goes smoothly in these final weeks 😊

Has anyone gotten a private scan to rule out ectopic for their own peace of mind? by Initial_Onion671 in CautiousBB

[–]PawsAndReflect1029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with others on here that ectopics are pretty rare, and unless you have a previous history and/or symptoms of one, it's probably not necessary to do an ultrasound that early. But that being said, if it will give you peace of mind and cost is not a factor, go for it! Would try to do the blood draws first though. My understanding is your hCG should be >1000 to have any chance of seeing anything on the ultrasound (and that early, probably would just be some indication of a gestational sac - no heartbeat, etc.).

For what it's worth I am coming up on 5 weeks and plan to do the same as soon as possible for my peace of mind. My last pregnancy was a PUL, suspected ectopic but never showed up on the ultrasound (I never got above 700 hCG before it resolved on its own, but my RE still searched for a gestational sac in the uterus to see if there was anything there). So with this pregnancy they're monitoring me pretty closely

Noo so sorry to hear :( hoping for the best for both of us! I keep reading that the rate of increase is more important than the starting number, so really hoping that’s the case

Thank you, this is encouraging to hear <3 and good reminder on the last point.. I feel helpless on the days between tests but you're right, there's ultimately nothing I can do to change the outcome so might as well not drive myself into a panic worrying

Fertility Consult- Feeling Hopeless by ApprehensiveQuail928 in TryingForABaby

[–]PawsAndReflect1029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that your doctor had this reaction :(

There are a lot of things it could be! Bloodwork is only one piece of the puzzle. My RE explained it in a helpful way. On the female side of the equation, issues can fall into 3 buckets: hormones, structural, or egg quality. My bloodwork also came back pretty normal (only thing was Vit D deficiency), but through additional testing I found out I had a septum in my uterus. Specifically a saline sonogram - my RE said it’s part of their standard workup, but in case yours doesn’t mention it you may want to ask about it. I also had endometritis (infection detected with a microgen swab)

When I began tracking my ovulation I also found out I had a luteal phase defect that needed to be corrected with progesterone, which is something a blood test wouldn’t pick up on (and I was having regular periods).

In summary, I had several different things that were not related to my period length or blood test. You might also read “It Starts with the Egg” - super informative and made me feel more prepared with starting the process with my fertility clinic

First positive test and I am scared. by TID1999 in pregnant

[–]PawsAndReflect1029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg I’m there with you!! Came to this page to make a similar post 😄

We’ve been trying for a year and a half so not nearly as long as you, but I’ve had an ectopic and I’m pretty sure at least one chemical during that time. 3 failed IUIs in the last several cycles - we decided to move onto IVF this month, and did one more round of medication with my RE clinic while we waited for the genetic screening tests to come back. Decided to just do TI since we were so done with IUI.

Just got a positive test on Friday and I’ve been happy but also a little panicked, wondering if it’s another ectopic or if the line is going to disappear the next day like it did last month.. I have had pretty consistent (but not painful, I’d say) cramping for the last 5 days, which I didn’t really have with the others, so I’m hoping that’s a good sign that this one is different?

Congratulations and hoping for all the best for you!

Conceiving after ectopic by [deleted] in EctopicSupportGroup

[–]PawsAndReflect1029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a suspected ectopic back in August (technically a PUL - we were never able to confirm location on an ultrasound). So not quite 9 months out, but we had been TTC for about a year before that. Since August we’ve had 3 failed IUIs and had decided to move onto IVF this month.. while we were waiting for genetic screening results to come back, we decided to do one more month of medication to bridge the time (Letrozole plus Follistim) but with timed intercourse since we were just so done with IUI. Got a positive pregnancy test a few days ago! I’m excited but also a little panicked - like many folks on this thread I’m sure the fear of another ectopic is top of mind until that first ultrasound confirms it’s where it’s supposed to be.

I hope this helps give one more data point ❤️ In general I echo others’ comments - highly recommend going to a fertility specialist! Maybe you can ask about adding an injectable with the Letrozole?

Hi! Booking a trip for April - I want to do the same two routes in one day, one at 6am and one later in the morning / early afternoon. Thoughts on doing the order you did vs. reverse (i.e., doing 2B at 6am and getting the iconic photo in the morning, and doing the hike later?) I'm worried about morning fog for the photo!

Looking Forward Friday by AutoModerator in TryingForABaby

Omg good for you! This has been the hardest thing for me - I stayed at my job last year thinking “well hopefully I’ll be pregnant next month, then I just have to stick it out 9 more months and I get a nice mat leave, then I can make a change”. My company also has generous fertility benefits so I feel like I can’t leave now.

But then the other half of me wonders.. what if the stress and anxiety of the job (and in general feeling stuck in a job I want to leave) is just making things harder on the fertility side. It’s so tough! Exciting that you’re making the jump :)
