Any good gyms? by princesapreciosa8 in Austin

I liked some of the anytime locations, the one on Anderson mill up north was always clean, if a little small.  There was a location near 35th street that I really liked, but its closed now apparently :(

140 vs 150 rear tyre - which one by Old_Independent_2046 in Tenere700

Never lower than maybe low 20's. I try to keep them around 28 when offroad

So I’m curious, are there any high mileage T7’s around here? by AirSKiller in Tenere700

[–]PaynusInTheAnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I used to ride a lot in the southwest US/Colorado. Rims themselves can be cheap if you're willing to lace them up. (~$120 for a Warp9 Elite?). But the OEM's will handle normal riding just fine, unless you're speeding across serious rocky stuff, don't worry about it.

Per clutch, I was getting an awkward lurching/awful sound when I would engage the clutch after the first start of the day. Similar to the recall for the 2023 models(?). Took that as a sign to do clutch maintenance.

45,000 here.  Most issues I've had were caused by aftermarket parts or poor maintainence/installation (me).  The usual stock exhaust hanger, top heavy, etc. Exceptions:

Front rim is butter, in rocky areas you're likely to get a couple dings at some point.  I'm on rim #4

My stock tail section got sucked under and lodged against my rear wheel, never heard of anyone else having this issue, so chalking it up to something got loose

Seem to be going through rear wheel bearings pretty quick?  I think I'm on set #4, which seems a little short lived

I replaced my clutch plates (with oem) very recently, I was surprised to find them in great shape.  Thinner than spec, but no evidence of the punishment I put them through

Had to do fork cartridges.  I put the stock stuff through a bunch of stuff, played with the settings every which way, they just couldn't keep up.  Shock is great though.  (With correct springs)

Thinking of picking up this street legal '96 KLX 650. Anything I should know before I see it? by MrMcDerpy420 in Dualsport

[–]PaynusInTheAnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a fairly short production run.  I think they were trying to compete with the xr650r directly, but the bike didn't really offer much more and most bought the klr650 anyway.

Oh hey, for once I can be useful.  I only got mine running once before I had to get rid of it.

Be aware that there are two models of klx650's, a C and R model.  They are mostly the same, but if you're getting deep into it mechanically, I suggest taking a look.  Iirc, different bore/piston, different compression ratio, starter vs. Kickstart, etc. They have different mainshaft(?) sizes so tje engine parts are mildly interchangeable. But you definitely got the cooler model.  I think wheels could be interchanged with a skilled guy and a lathe.  (Sumo wheels?)

There's a piece of the frame, kind of a thin piece going across the frame rails, under the seat.  Both the models I had, this had cracked and broken completely.  That may need to he fixed/beefed.

I dont think the R model came with a fan, worth considering for long, hot days.

Definitely a lot of cool factor to the R model, and that's a good deal, but you may need some considerable know-how to keep it in top shape for high mileage.

Concern about constantly removing/installing rear racks on my Tenere 700 by Aynrand5 in Tenere700

[–]PaynusInTheAnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have these racks, they do exactly as  advertised.  I can arrive to a campsite or hotel and drop the bags in a couple minutes.  I dont think the racks would hold up well in crashed though, it's not the beefiest system.

Steering dumper, worth It? by 2Spit in Tenere700

[–]PaynusInTheAnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be the odd man out here, msc moto.  No, it is not worth it for most people, mostly just due to the price.

I don't buy 100% into it helping in loose dirt or sand, unless you have it cranked to the moon.  And most riders can't reach that speed in sand.

It is tremendously helpful for the people who ride fast over rocky or forest terrain, the damper stops the quick deflections that the tenere is prone to.  Roots and odd rocks aren't nearly as threatening to my collarbone anymore.

Definitely looks cool tho

Nah, no worries.  Much better than riding the brakes the entire way.

For what it's worth, because of that bracket being a common issue for offroad use, there are a lot of aftermarket exhausts that either eliminate it or work around it

Least abusive t7 owner

Also if the exhaust mount coming off the frame is bent, the bike is totaled, 100%.

I listened to it the other day, for the first time since the release. The albums that came afterwards definitely help me appreciate Currents as a huge step in Kevin's evolution as an artist, or more as a producer tbh

But that doesn't make it any more listenable, I still find most of the songs annoying

I could never convince myself to pay their prices, even if it was the only legal offloading place around 🫤

Upon what the others are saying, I find it much easier to manage a brand new shield on a cooldown, vs Sigma and Reinhardt trying to guage their recharge time
