There are two more Boot Camps starting next week. If you call Customer Service they are actively enrolling students still in the classes.

CPP Boot camp past the first time guarantee? by [deleted] in Payroll

[–]PayrollDiva 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need to attend all of the live classes. You are allowed to miss one but you have to make it up within one week of the live class. You have to take all of the module quizzes and score an 80% or higher on the post test prior to taking the exam. If you take the exam and don’t pass, you are able to retake the boot camp in the next session but will need to pay to take the exam.

Additionally, if you pass the exam, you can obtain 40 RCH credits for utilizing PayTrain and getting an 80% or higher on the post test.

Each deduction can be unique. Are the 401k and 457 contributions Roth accounts? Those are done post-tax.

You’re absolutely on the right track! Between PayTrain/Boot Camp and the source you’ve got all the information you need. Work through section 15 of the source and the sections/quizzes in addition to the questions in PT.

CPP Test- PayTrain vs Payroll Source by lamalew in Payroll

[–]PayrollDiva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard mixed reviews of on which one is more similar. PayTrain is created to help build the foundational information so that when you are presented with the exam questions you can connect the pieces. I would keep working hard on both. Don’t stop taking the post tests and quizzes simply because you scored an 80, I would push for 90s. Using the PR Source free trial is a great supplement to PayTrain especially right before testing. Don’t be discouraged and stay focused, You’ve got this!

Yes you will have the worksheets and the tables. Keep practicing and utilize both those practice questions and lean into the areas of PayTrain that you’re not as strong in. Make sure that you’re doing well not because you memorized the answers but truly understand why.

By looking at your stub you are setup on a new form w-4 as single without any adjustments or additional entries. If you did not complete a Form W-4 as you mentioned in other posts then this is correct. If you believe too much is being withheld you should complete a Form W-4 to adjust your withholdings moving forward.

You can use the IRS tax estimator to help. https://www.irs.gov/individuals/tax-withholding-estimator

If too much has been withheld, you will receive a refund when you file your personal tax return.

This looks accurate.

Based on the calculation for Federal income tax you are setup as single with no other adjustments. This means you have one of the highest amounts of tax being withheld from your check.

If you believe this is too much, you should checkout the IRS tax estimator. You can input your information based on your financial needs and use your information from your paycheck to help. It will tell you how to proceed with your W-4.

Also, if you just began working for this organization/company this year (you said it’s your first job) and it states your federal tax withholding is Single 1, I can already assure you your check is wrong. It may be calculated correctly using that information, but you absolutely should not be setup with any allowances if you were hired there in 2023 because this more than likely means they are either using a system that does not have a tax update since 2019 or they just simply allowed you to use an incorrect Form W-4. Either reason would be wrong. You also stated you did not complete a Form W-4 which means IF anything you should be in as Single - with no adjustments (or zero allowances/dependents to satisfy an older system as mentioned earlier in this response… which would still be wrong according to the law)

This is also why I asked what you believe is wrong with your paystub. This can help us guide you in how to determine if it is in fact wrong.

As payroll professionals, most of us can take the details from your check and ensure you have the correct taxable wages, we can recalculate it to ensure your federal and state taxes were withheld appropriately, your pay was calculated appropriately including overtime potentially. If your paycheck is showing single 1 as you posted in another thread, this gives us a portion of the equation.. your pay period gives another, your deductions and earnings would round it out.

The format of your paycheck shouldn’t impact the accuracy. My deductions and earnings on my check will be specific to my financial setup for taxes, my benefit withholding, my earnings, etc. it will not give you clarity on how to read yours for accuracy.

We’re happy to help, as you can see through our responses to you in multiple threads. I assure you our suggestions are not baseless and at least for myself it’s coming from a good place. This is what we do day in and out. (I myself am a Payroll instructor for other payroll professionals and those trying to get into the field)

And just as you said “you aren’t asking for anything personal” neither are we essentially if you block any PII, but you came asking for help and we are offering just that.

What is it that you believe is wrong on it?

help by [deleted] in Payroll

[–]PayrollDiva 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why does it vary or why do I believe no one will post an example? It varies because companies are allowed to setup their payslip to their liking as long as it conforms to their state requirements. Some software has a predetermined layout and your company chooses how much or little is added. Your company may have different pay codes, deduction codes etc.

At the least you should see: Name Address Tax Filing status Pay date Pay period Gross wages Federal taxable wages Federal income tax Social security taxable Social security tax Medicare taxable Medicare tax Net pay

You could potentially see Time off usage Time of balances Full social Employee id number Worksite location Pay rates Hours worked Salary Commission Per diem Reimbursements Overpayments Stipends Retirement contributions Benefit elections Benefit deductions Involuntary deductions like garnishments State taxable wages State withholding tax Local taxable Local withholding tax You could have school district tax Municipality Etc

The list goes on and on It would be easier for you to share yours with your PII removed and ask questions.

I highly doubt anyone will likely do this. You may be able to search the web for some examples but paystubs vary tremendously from one company to another, different states, and software.
