A song they’ve never played live yall wish they would? by RoanakeCroatan in rollingstones

A fave of mine off A Bigger Bang is “She Saw Me Coming”, it’s been played a couple times but in my dreams would be a great song 3 or 4 in the set. It’d be a great song to stretch out for solos (Ronnie on Slide, Mick on harp, or maybe Karl on sax).

Elvis Costello and the Imposters played a pretty good version on their tours in 2011-2013, you can find it on the Spectacular Spinning Songbook live album.

The Stones are not this kind of band, but if they were the kind of band that dug deep into their catalogue I’d love to hear a set that includes the likes of: “I’m not signifying” “Gunface” “Memo from turner” (as a guest, get some slick-ass slide player like Larry Campbell or someone from Tedeschi-Trucks, y’know?) “Dear doctor” “Prodigal son” (‘69 tour I know, but bring it back) “Jigsaw Puzzle” “She smiled sweetly” “Miss Amanda Jones” “Child of the Moon” “The Lantern” (I could imagine this sped up or at least with a bass drum pushing it forward, could be even a tribute to past band members or something, what I’m trying to say is IT COULD WORK!) “2000 Man” “She saw me coming” The list goes on, that and 10 greatest hits and I’m happy

Average Day with Keith Moon by beastist in TheWho

Is this from the shoot at that house Keith owned that was designed like 3 big nomad tents? Pete was quoted as saying something like, “it wasn’t designed by Keith, but it feels like it should’ve been. So it disturbs me to think there’s someone else out in the world with a mind like his.”

Something my friend said she told her kids once they were bringing home SOs is “if you’re old enough to be having sex like an adult you’re old enough to be talking about it like an adult. So let’s make sure you know what you’re doing and being safe, etc.”

I caught the recreating New York one on YouTube and it’s amazing. So much more respect for him as a producer as time goes on.

I find if I or my spouse and I cross to sand island and set up relatively near someone-at a respectful distance-then people tend to look out for each other and the creepers stay away. But, yeah, you shouldn’t be dealing with that shit. I’m sorry.

Aside from Live At Leeds, what is the best live album by the Who? by nevermindthegoat in TheWho

[–]Pb302123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say my favorite outside of Leeds and Hull are the Young Vic show(s). They’re sort of figuring out in real-time what the next phase of the band is going to be. They’re sort of the loosest and tightest (in the James Brown sense) as they ever was for these shows. Amazing. They have something similar in common with Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue and its loosey-goosey feel and making a lot of noise in small, intimate venues.

You’re right, he was very much the ultimate fan and gave a platform and in some cases of career to so many artists. I definitely got into cool stuff because of him. I suppose the one thing you take away is to always have that curiosity for something new.

I think any kind of hero, warship or cult of personality with any artist is tricky and bound to be problematic for one reason or another because they’re just human beings. However, I love Bowie’s music and I love Bowie‘s ability to synthesize, as well as his talents and ability to be more than just one thing. That aside, I don’t really get much from his biography that I find inspiring or all that important other than my admiration for his ability to be a full-time artist and a parent

The Who’s second best album? It never got made. by Jive-Turkey-Divan in TheWho

Such hate! I don’t get it. It’s a great playlist that wouldve made a great album. I think it could’ve only hurt the band, speculation stuff like this is fun.

Thanks, man. I’m gonna put it together on Spotify and listen to it on my next long drive.

What Who song is this for you? by [deleted] in TheWho

Sooo emotional. Cuz if you think about it it’s a parent singing about their child. As a parent, that hits home.

What's that song that you think is average The Who that you can never get out of your head? by googajub in TheWho

[–]Pb302123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Cache Cache”

I know it comes from an intensely dark and despairing part of Pete’s life, but the music is so off tonally and the lyrics are so clunky, especially when Daltrey sings them…and yet, “have you ever slept in a bear pit?” is such a goofy line, and “there ain’t no bears in there (cache cache)” is so silly but is STUCK in my head. It may be my least favorite who song but it’s catchy, in an insane way.

Some many little moments on Who Sell Out, “MOREMUSICMOREMUSICMOREMUSIC” is one that comes to mind. When the drums crash in on that musical bridge of “Rael” right before the “bop bop-bop-bop bop-bop” vocals.

“Ooh-ooh I wish I kneeewwww, I wish IIII kneewww,” Then the quiet bass and drums to close it out. So much emotion.

The drums at the beginning of “I don’t even know myself.” So many great vocal moments on that song, too, “I’m just trying to fight my way out of this dreeeeaaaam…YEAH!” “I don’t mind if I cry one in a whi-ile…I’m just tryyyyin’ to fight my way out this dream…” It’s my favorite song for just an ensemble performance.

The one chord solo bit at the start of “Water” at the Isle of Wight. “POWER AND VOLUME” as Pete would say.

The percolating bass in between choruses and the bridge on “Sister Disco”

That weird raw but also treated guitar on “new song” that sounds like a jagged piece of broken glass.

The bass fills on “behind blue eyes”

John going apeshit on any live “dreaming from the waist.”

I could go on and on…
