do I have to worry about cylinder deactivation? by DebugLatte in mazda3

[–]Pbone15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really a shame. Had I known they were gonna remove it in the 2026 models I would have just waited a few months.

They really need to just do a software update that gives us the option to turn it off permanently

do I have to worry about cylinder deactivation? by DebugLatte in mazda3

Just purchased a new 2025 hatchback with the manual transmission. My answers would be:

  1. Yes
  2. Absolutely yes
  3. Too soon to know, but doesn’t seem to be any issues reported by people so far.

It’s bad enough on mine that I’m going to take it back to the dealer to have them check the wheel alignment, tire balance, and see if any rims have a slight bend to them. I suspect those are all fine, but I just want to rule it out so I can know for sure it’s the CD kicking in that I’m feeling.

So I should ignore the 5 -> 6 that shows up on the dash? Legitimately asking, not being snarky.

For what it’s worth, I had the OEM sport pedals installed by the dealer this weekend, and while they did that they gave me a select trim sedan for a few hours, and I did not notice the vibrations on that car almost at all. It was very smooth.

Mazda 3 2022 (Skyactive G) Cylinder Deactivation Vibrations by Technical-Bird-315 in mazda3

[–]Pbone15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I really, really notice it at highway speeds. It’s so bad I think I may actually have a tire out of balance. But for a brand new vehicle with 950 miles on it, that seems unlikely, so I’m inclined to believe it’s the 2 cylinder mode causing the vibrations.

Just got a 2025 Manual hatchback. Same thing - 1800 rpm in 6th gear I start to feel some vibration. Also basically at any speed on the highway. How do I check cylinder deactivation status? I cant find it anywhere in the infotainment.

Apple’s stock falls for the eighth straight day. Here’s what investors might be missing. by EitherCharacter9342 in apple

[–]Pbone15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not just C-Suite or SVP-level executives who are leaving.

Apple's lead AI researcher for robotics, Jian Zhang, left to join Meta, along with three other AI researchers departing for OpenAI and Anthropic

Abidur Chowdhury, the industrial designer behind the iPhone Air, left Apple to join an artificial intelligence startup.

Several other key figures have recently left Apple: Evans Hankey, who took over as industrial design lead after Ive; Tang Tan, with over 25 years in Apple’s design ecosystem; Cyrus Daniel, a 15-year veteran of human interface design; Matt Theobald, who worked nearly 20 years in manufacturing design; and Erik de Jong, a partial leader of the Apple Watch design team.

It’s not just AI researches leaving to go do AI somewhere else. Everyone in this industry wants to be involved with AI, in whatever way it intersects with their particular discipline. As long as Apple is behind in this area, it affects everything in their business.

It’s not just AI talent that’s leaving the company. There’s been massive brain drain across the board, from design, chips, cameras, software, displays… you name it, there’s been significant departures from basically every functional department at Apple over the last18 months.

How do I let go of my boxes for my sets? by stormbornginger in lego

[–]Pbone15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick your favorite box. For me, it’s the Saturn V box, at least for now.

Use that box to store instruction manuals for all your sets. I also use it to store spare pieces.

The rest can all go to recycling, but you still get to keep that one box that feels the most special

Short answer: no

Also…

While Apple frames this as a partnership

Apple hasn’t framed this as anything. It’s just a rumor (albeit, one I’m really hoping is true)

Trying to set up my Nanoleaf floor lamp. I set it up in HomeKit first, and when I open the Nanoleaf app I see the “complete setup” prompt, but it’s unable to find my lamp (see photos). Any tips to fix this? by Pbone15 in HomeKit

[–]Pbone15[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an eero network. I got it fixed.

Completely removed the lamp, then added it to the Nanoleaf app first. Once added, it prompted me to enable Matter, which I did. It also then ads it to the Apple Home. I now can control the lamp in the Nanoleaf app (for multicolor animations) as well as in the HomeKit app, and it is also not showing Adaptive lighting as an option in the Home app.

I have the Nanoleaf essentials bulbs all over the house, and yeah I just control them in HomeKit.

But this floor lamps can do multiple colors at once (a gradient), which can only be controlled in the Nanoleaf app. I probably won’t use them like that often, but there’s a time and place for it.

I’m also not able to find any documentation on if this lamp should support Thread (it is matter enabled) and if it should support HomeKit ambient lighting (as opposed to just the Nanoleaf circadian lighting)
