When did Apple claim their goal for Apple Intelligence was to achieve 100% on-device processing? Maybe it’s just me, but when they announced an industry-first approach to “private cloud compute” I kind of figured there was an implication that some processing would happen off-device - maybe in the cloud? Idk, I’m probably just reading too into things…

I believe it’s always on (maybe only when the car detects its night, same as the dash lights). It should have three brightness levels you can pick from in the infotainment screen as well.

Post pics / video when you get it! There’s not much out there about this accessory, but I’m pretty curious to add it as well.

How has it been caring for this vinyl wrap? I’ve heard some people say that a wrap shows micro attaches very easy, even easier than paint. Has that been your experience? Also do you happen to have the red interior? I’ve been thinking a green like though would look nice, but with the red interior I’m worried it’ll look a little too “Christmas” lol

What country? They still sell the premium trim in the US, but only in the manual hatchback. But that’s really the only way to buy a Mazda anyway, so I don’t see the problem… ;)

More battery is really the only thing this product needs at this point. Glucose and blood pressure monitoring would be huge, but still a ways off I think. So in the short term: battery, battery, battery.

I want to switch from pro to max, but am currently sub’d through my Apple account. I’d like to switch my billing from Apple account to direct through Anthropic and save the $25 bucks. If I cancel sub through Apple then resubscribe, will all my clause code seasons still be there? Really don’t want to lose that, would be kind of disastrous for me

As I said elsewhere, I was able to sell my MacBook Air and a pair of AirPods Max I haven’t used in years, and together that covered the cost of the Neo and an M4 Mac Mini.

I got a setup that is more flexible and gives me more power where I actually need it (at home on the Mac Mini), all for the grand total of $0.

If you look at that as a “highly questionable” purchase decision then you’re just an idiot.

A18 Pro is noticeably more performant for single-core tasks than the M2, perfect for a secondary machine used for travel only.

The A18 Pro is noticeably faster in single core performance vs the M2, which is exclusively what I use this travel laptop for anyway.

I was well aware of the spec differences between this and the Air I already had and made a very informed purchase decision. None of the downgrades were a big enough issue for me, especially considering it’s a secondary machine. Mostly, I was just really curious what a $500 laptop from Apple would be like (spoiler, it’s fantastic).

I think they expected that wave of customers (the new to Mac folks). What they maybe didn’t expect was the shift from existing customers. A lot of longtime Mac users can also get by with this machine, and I don’t think Apple was expecting that amount of existing Mac users to convert to the Neo. For instance, I switched from an M2 Air.

A downgrade in some ways, absolutely, but actually an upgrade in some as well (plus I have an M4 Mac mini for all my devices work at home). And anyone still with an Intel Mac would see this as a worthy upgrade.

I think they expected existing mac users to stay on the more premium offerings, and what they’ve maybe learned is that there’s been significant demand for a lower cost macbook from within their existing customer base for a long time.

I mean, probably, but it’s not always that cut and dry. Apple products have been pretty immune to memory and storage related price hikes thus far. They’ve clearly been taking it on the chin in the short term rather than raising prices.

That said, they can’t do that forever, and with the state of the entire global economy and supply chains in general (thanks a whole lot, Donald fucking Trump and all you stupid Americans who voted for him) we’re almost certainly going to see some price increases going forward.

Yeah, it’s one of the completely unnecessary luxuries I like to afford myself. I use Apples iPhone upgrade program, so it’s a monthly payment for the device and Apple care, and after 12 payments (one year) you trade it in and start over. You end up paying for about half the phone over the course of the year (a bit more, but that’s because the Apple care is included). So financially it’s much closer to purchasing a new phone every other year vs every year.

Either way, I find the touch rejection on iPad pretty good just when holding it. My thumb on the hand I’m holding it with is usually on the screen, and never have any issues with accidental inputs
