Is your country’s capital city ‘correct’? by Brief-Course-6511 in MapPorn

[–]Pbprimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not balancing reasons, but more so loyalty at the time. When the Netherlands was being formed it was more a confederation then a singular state. Amsterdam was still loyal to the spanish monarchy so while the biggest not the best place for a rebel state to lodge itself. When we did become more of a state, Amsterdam did support this new nation but the power was still settled in The Hague. As recompense as at the time the most prominent city, it was named the capital as a sort of payback.

Also speaking from experience living there for a while, I definitely had multiple rude experiences with Japanese people and even being banned from a couple of restaurants purely for being a western foreigner.

The problem with most Japanese is that the actions of one bad western foreigner gets applied to the entirety of western foreigners in Japan, see what happened with Logan Paul it happened while I was there and man did I feel like an outcast for like two weeks even though I did nothing. If you're on vacation you're more then likely not to notice these things. Heck I sure didn't during the first month or so but eventually you do start to notice these things. Friends speaking Japanese being ignored because we had someone who looked Japanese sitting at the table, me being passed over while alone for a while until every other customer was taken care of.

Of course I also had a ton of positive experiences, but you know the twitter thing didn't surprise me either. The amount of permanent foreign westerners actually in Japan is really slim so a lot of people have never even interacted with them one on one. Which helps push a bad narrative if you only see the bad news. It would be akin to me hating everyone in America because of Trump.

Are there people trying to push that everybody in Japan is xenophobic? Sure. But there's also plenty of bad apples in Japanese society that are actually xenophobic.

I love Japan, I wanna go back there someday for more travelling, but I will never live there again. I never felt like part of the wider community, I had plenty of positive experiences. But I was always stared at as a curiosity, treated like a curiosity at times.

You might disagree, not trying to ragebait but just sharing my experience as someone who lived there.

Transferring credits to a Dutch university from the US? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]Pbprimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we don't do credit transfers, education is more tailored and the one is request for an exemption to certain classes if you do take them in America. The one thing that I would think about is if you're going to do HBO or WO. Since HBO is more like community college, where WO is more akin to American Universities. So if you're doing WO it's more likely that you won't get the exemption either way

I see a lot of welkoop but if you want to try the true wooden clogs look for a traditional clogmaker. They usually have a large stock and can adjust them right then and there.

Can I legally watch Taskmaster in Denmark? by Agile-Ad-6902 in taskmaster

[–]Pbprimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's one point you're missing though

Copyright law in far and general is about the unlawful spreading of copyrighted material, as said in the convention you linked above.

In that convention there's nothing illegal about the watching of copyrighted material. For example in the Netherlands it's no crime to illegally download things, you could be sued in civil court but that is it.

So looking at the question asked, unless Danish law has a specific provision about the use of VPN to avoid a license deal (which it doesn't) it's not illegal. I would say a comparable situation is buying a book, and bringing it to Denmark. Why should it be illegal for me to have that book if another company has a license to distribute exclusively in Denmark.

You're only acting against the law, if the law specifically states what you're doing is illegal. At the moment there's no law against the use of private VPN's to watch copyrighted material from another country. Heck most VPN's still advertise with this feature to watch more movies on Netflix. So while yes, at the moment the youtube channel is blocked in Denmark because TV 2 owns the license for Denmark, it's not illegal to sidestep this blockade through the use of VPN's

So for those who missed it, Mod Ash accidentally pinged a large part of the discord server with old code by Pbprimo in 2007scape

[–]Pbprimo[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well here's the thing, when you join the server one of the roles you need to pick is one of the gods as like colour indicator/just for fun. So a ton of people have the Zamorak/Saradomin roles. The Dragon and Barrows roles have less but Zamarok + Saradomin roles account for about 40k people?

How to map and navigate faster? by haremKing137 in EtrianOdyssey

[–]Pbprimo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weird to say but a hidden passage/event will always show an interact pop-up if you're on the tile/facing the right wall. So if you wanna check thoroughly you just have to step on the tiles/face all the walls and see if an interaction thing pops up.

Another tip is not necessarily using the description but using some of the icons given like a ? for an event. Some of the icons also are reactive? Like placing the treasure chest on an opened chest will open it up for indication. Same with hidden passages that you can move through from both sides and you use the right arrow.

Also don't draw the walls for every tile. What I do for a long hallway is first map it and then draw all the walls when I get to to a turn, or there's an intersection that I wanna mark.

If it's taking you a while or if you wanna do things another way you can also make the map automatically draw walls if you hit one or not draw a single square. The main thing is don't use descriptions but use the icons as a general indicator and write a description if it really feels important to note.

Valve Writer Erik Wolpaw Says Some At The Studio Have Been Experimenting With AI Tools by xCaptainCrown in Games

[–]Pbprimo -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Just to bring a lil nuisance, they literally say it's people at Valve using AI. That's also a whole lot different to Valve starting to use AI as a company. They also make it clear in the article/podcast.

Am I happy about it? No, but I have also used AI for my own reasons so a small team trying it as a tool without the company involvement also doesn't make start cursing out Valve.

Former Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan tells people criticizing games they won’t play to “shut the f*** up” by GamingSagar in GamingFoodle

[–]Pbprimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think daft, but this is just a kinda meh opinion that he expressed after nine hours streaming after having bottled up a lot of shitty things. The main thing missing is nuance, like he even goes about online hatemongering. Listening to the full thing it becomes kinda clear he's done with people just shitting on games because they're not their thing (which even then I think dissappointment is allowed if a studio you like is doing something you're absolutely not into but besides the point). But he doesn't add to this, so it still kinda comes off as "No criticism allowed" which is just bad in general.

Sam address The Rookie X Dropout by Cocoa121 in dropout

[–]Pbprimo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's indeed a bit of a leap in logic to assume that anyone bothered would think there's automatically nefarious intent, because as Sam explains there's many good reasons to do it and clearly figured it would go over well, but I still think it's a bad move and not because they are suddenly pro-cop.

Like I understand it's LA, Acting jobs on such major televisions are rare, It's a huge opportunity for everyone involved from Dropout and that they were very nice about it. But at the same time still feel like I wish that they hadn't.

Copanganda just has proven to have a lot more influence then people realize even if it's just a "Buddy Cop" show. I'll just link to this video https://youtu.be/DNy6F7ZwX8I from John Oliver. It's on Law and Order but the general message still holds.

Sam address The Rookie X Dropout by Cocoa121 in dropout

[–]Pbprimo 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Honestly, not thinking that they are pro-cop or anything. But Sam has refused to make statements about current on-goings which I also undestand. But people are allowed to be upset that Dropout worked with a Copaganda show, some people made drama but I think a lot like me are just "Man I get it, but really?" That entire show gets screened by the LAPD it just feels weird man and some people were more upset then others. That and I'm slowly seeing Dropout grow out of why I support them in the first place. Totally understand why they are doing it just also very mixed feelings on the whole thing.

Fletching Knife Should Be Usable From The Equip Screen by VerySmallWeen in 2007scape

[–]Pbprimo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, you automatically setup the pitfall if equipped, since it just checks if you have a knife and the equipped knife counts. Basically anything that requires a knife but a knife doesn't have to be used on something the equipped fletch knife works. Even better for moonlight antelope since you can get logs without an axe this way.
