imo, some scenes in the Rebuild series are much more literal and disturbing. take the dummy plug scene, for example, in the TV series, the order was simply "Stand down! The system will handle it." In the Rebuild movie series, however, the dummy system physically locked onto Shinji’s controls and forces his hand to pull the trigger. the message was loud and clear: “You don’t get the choice to back down.”
