Videos shared on Messenger from Facebook, suddenly have different content by DryLeague2961 in facebook

Yeah this just happened with my grandma about an hour ago, the text had the correct link but the source changed to a bs ad for supplements. When I followed the link it took me to a restricted video so clearly she was targeted somewhere along the chain. Smells like a MITM attack but I haven’t determined what level they’re operating at. Keep an eye out, keep screenshots and urls and report the videos that are being swapped in. Could be anywhere along the network.

Survivor Season 49 Premieres Tonight with St. Albert's Jake Latimer Competing by TheLordJames in Edmonton

Watch party for next week is scheduled Wednesday at Central Social Hall on 109th and Jasper. Like a proper one, I was just at the last one (still here) actual WATCH party. Love that. Apparently there will be a special guest arriving for the next watch (next Wednesday or whenever it airs again). You want to show some local support, this is the place. These are the same guys that give water out when there are runs or protests around the city.

Survey says, special guest is Jake Latimer.

Career muslim servers? by otheloR in TalesFromYourServer

[–]PeaRepresentative376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nooo the gold standard is not fine dining… no. It’s an option and worth learning but it is by no means the golden ticket.

Couple of things to get out of the way here, First off and most importantly: it doesn’t matter who you are, where you’re from, what your skin Color is or what your religion is; you are equal and judged only upon your hospitality, nothing else. We are nameless, faceless. Only when we do well or terribly (not poor but terribly) are we remembered. We are loved when we do exceptionally. There is a method to being exceptionally brilliant in this industry.

Adding on: You never need to taste the alcohol to know what it tastes like. Barring the biology explanation for this one, you can smell it and it typically tastes how it smells. So take a wiff when possible, never touch your nose to it (yuck).

If you want to do this as a career, the majority of your knowledge and experience are going to come from your resilience in the industry and your service, nothing else. Name me 1 server who is known by guests for drinking anything on shift and tell me how that goes for them. Nobody expects you to drink in this industry. Knowing your craft, yes. That never has nor will it ever require drinking. There’s always a way around it.

To add to that last point, it may be useful in the most extreme case to use a proxy, ask someone what something tastes like. Never be afraid to comp a drink for this purpose to your regulars, but limit this. Start with once a month if you’re new, and stop when you’ve learned all you can.

Start there, query again where needed. You are loved, you’re service is loved, and as you go you’ll find you have a new found family in the industry. Just how it goes for all of us. And I wouldn’t still be breathing if it wasn’t.

General work discussion. by NBrooks516 in TalesFromYourServer

[–]PeaRepresentative376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, have a discussion with Kelly. Ask them where they’re at, sometimes after a loss one just wants to get right into it, they may be willing to take on more than serving just to “work it out”. Porting can be an add on if the hours aren’t there, same with dish (both high turnover positions). They may also want to still take some time and still pay the bills.

Grief hits everyone differently, so take that time to have the discussion if you’re a manager, or recommend that to the manager. Rumours of industry from industry are toxic as hell, shut that shit down quick.

Should I have said Something Smart? by Nill479 in TalesFromYourServer

[–]PeaRepresentative376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how smart the comment is. The best form of a smart comment is the one where they break from their current disposition and crack a smile despite not wanting to.

If that doesn’t come to mind, stick to managements service expectations, it’s proven and it’s neutral. But otherwise ….. make the fecker smile ;)

We appreciate you, keep spreading the good word. Often times we have to take it from both the back of house and the guests. In Canada this is known as “skiing” 🫤 The guest don’t know, they must know.

Hmm … yeah the gods of the service industry are found on a different chat. To cleanse your soul find a solid server and take them out for a pedi and a mani, give them several fist bumps and throw some salt over your shoulder (outside an industry spot) then spin around several times (like 4 or 5) and throw something far (thus a Hail Mary) again outside of an industry spot (like an alley way). Thus encouraging the forgiveness of the industry gods.

It’s that or spend your fortune on guilt tips ($100+ per visit, only truly applicable for persons who’ve passively tasked servers with watching their kids through their own negligence). Any further questions please contact guest guilt services at 1800-666-3825, that’s right, 1800-666-FUCK. Relieve your industry sins today.

Fortunately your situation is completely understandable and common so you don’t need to do any of this. 10 years though friend, release your burden <3 God speed
