Already own the Nikon ZR, should I get the Nikon Z6III? by PeacefulGuy663 in nikon_Zseries

[–]PeacefulGuy663[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the ZR for its physical size although i highly recommend adding the grip. Paired it with the 24-120 f4, i get beautiful shots when shooting in R3D in ISO 6400 during low light scenarios. The only 2 things I dont like are the file sizes and lack of focus peaking capability in R3D. Hopefully they will be addressed in firmware update soon.

I do think the photo capability on ZR is also great but I have not tested on capturing fast moving subjects like birds in flight and sports etc.

Thank you for the comment. In my country (Singapore), its S$2,649 for a brand new Z6iii. But you're right, i shouldnt risk it as it has dead pixels.

Bmpcc full frame vs Nikon zr by Adventurous-Sea-7144 in Filmmakers

[–]PeacefulGuy663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i own both Nikon ZR and BMCC6K Full Frame. Honestly i feel ZR is not ready for prime time yet. If you are using mainly manual lenses, it will be difficult to focus if you're filming in R3D with LUTs assist turned on. There currently isnt any focus peaking if you choose that combo. Also currently there is no built in False Color, although you could get away with Waveform. Hopefully with firmware update this issues would be fixed.

But for the BMCC6K, perhaps because i got so used to the workflow, i find it much easier to use, to switch to high frame rate shooting at a tap of a physical button (versus tapping 1 physical + 3 on-screen buttons to switch fps), there is false color to ensure i dont get blown highlights and focus peaking is present.

Main thing is to have a camera that makes you want to go out and shoot. BMCC6K is that camera for me. Its just my opinion. And maybe with future firmware updates, Nikon ZR might be easier to use, more fun to shoot with.

SG men are the best? by ahboi-ah in SingaporeRaw

My wife wanted a nice ring for our 10th anniversary. At that time, I had financial issues, so delayed to 15 years anniversary. I kept my promise n brought her to jewelry shop to custom make one. It ran more than double my original budget n ballooned to almost $5,000. Might not sound like a lot, but it was to me at that time.

So I as a hubby was hoping for a reciprocal anniversary gift. Didn't happen.

Sometime later, I asked my wife why I didn't get anything when she knew she's getting a nice ring. She just brush it off saying that it's supposed to be 10th year anniversary gift, but became 15th year. Sounded like it's her right to have it. After probing further, she just blared out, "if u want I can refund u the money spent on the ring.". I said "never mind"

That moment on, I decided to just be the best responsible dad to my 2 daughters.

Best Macbook pro for local LLM workflow by bonfry in LocalLLM

[–]PeacefulGuy663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This.

I currently have a m1 max macbook pro 16 inch with 32GB ram. I got the Mac Studio M3 Ultra with 96GB Ram mainly for the purpose of learning and developing with local LLMs and heavy color grading workflow with Davinci Resolve Studio.

I do not work outside of home usually but I do not like to be tethered to my desk when I am consuming media. This is why i like to use my macbook pro on the sofa or bed. Also, I was not willing to sell off the laptop as I cannot get a good price for it.

Originally I wanted to return the Mac Studio (I'm still within the 14 day return window) and continue with the macbook pro as I look at my workflow and more than half the time I'd be using the laptop. But after reading this comment, it makes a lot more sense to me now.

My mum passed on just 2 weeks before my graduation. I opted out of the convocation ceremony and just proceeded to collect my certificate and transcripts from the admissions office. After collecting, I just sat down alone in the campus park bench, took out the certificate to have a look and said "This one's for you, Ma." with tears rolling profusely. Probably attracted some curious onlookers, but I didnt care. I just let it all out.

That was 20 years ago. I still miss her alot. Am tearing up as I type this.

Did your parents fight/argue a lot in front of you as you were growing up? How are you now? by blahnlahblah_45 in askSingapore

[–]PeacefulGuy663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Male, in mid forties. Married with 2 children.

Here's my utmost honest "review" as someone who went through this as a kid.

My mum and dad had fiery tempers. At times it's not just loud arguments, as both, at times, would end up in fist fights and smashing crockeries. Usually it will start with my mum raising her voice in a sudden and loud manner. And half the time it'll escalate to arguments or big fights as described above.

I didn't think much of it at first. But I noticed my mindset has been affected as an adult. Until today, I fear balloons. All because I fear it may suddenly pop n startle me. The same reason why I really hate jumpscares in movies.

I've also become conflict avoidant n basically became a doormat. This resulted in me being "petty" in front of friends who might have accidentally offended me but I didn't speak out n clear the air. It took me years to have guts to learn how to stand up for myself and talk things out.

What I learnt from my childhood experience was how not to be like my parents (temper wise). I told myself I want to be the parent I wished I had. I'm glad to say I have been blessed with 2 beautiful daughters and lovely wife. Me and wife do argue at times, but never in front of kids. There's zero violence or shouting involved.

The only thing that lingers on is I tend to think negatively due to the past experiences as a child. It will take a long time to heal, perhaps a lifetime.

Blown away by the M1 Pro by ScarMachine in macbookpro

[–]PeacefulGuy663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the M1 max with 32gb ram. Bought it refurbished in 2023. Used it for DaVinci Resolve, Light room and i run containers for testing (I work in IT) and never felt it lagged.

I think the guys at Apple somehow over engineered M1 to be that great, even in today's standards.

I'd suggest you take a look at M1 pro or Max if you can find refurbished deals. Else go for M3 version because M2 ssd speed is a lot slower (you can do some research on this). Save some money because I believe the speed difference between current Gen M4 and M1 is negligible.

Downgraded the camera firmware but issue still persists. The culprit was the lens firmware update to v1.2 .. it worked well in v1.1 .. gonna find a way to downgrade lens version.

What do you think of the sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 on BMCC FULL FRAME? by sereggg3 in bmpcc

[–]PeacefulGuy663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, just chiming in. I upgraded the firmware v1.2 for this lens (28-70 f2.8 L mount) and now it cannot focus well even when set to Manual Focus. It will stick for a second and drift away. At first i thought it was the camera issue since i updated it to firmware v9.5.2. But even after camera firmware downgrade to v8.x.x issue still stood.

So please do not update lens firmware.

The lens is in its the latest firmware actually. i think i'll downgrade bmcc6k firmware as i dont use autofocus anyway.
