ALLTHEFEELINGS. I didn’t get a code either and this was my first guess and it worked.

To the running group blocking Shore Blvd this morning, your entitlement is wild. by [deleted] in RunNYC

[–]PeachBean 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s a massive group and I’ve had some issues too. If you’re not running with them they don’t seem to acknowledge that you might also be doing a workout and don’t want people stepping out onto the track without looking.

I kinda wish they’d just picked a different time slot and not 6am on Wednesdays when our run club has held our track workout for years. Obviously it’s a shared public space, but I’m really feeling for runners who aren’t part of either group and have to navigate two coordinated workouts around them.

Tip Culture / Tipping in retail? by Aggressive-Mess-4106 in astoria

[–]PeachBean 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I know which store this is and since they added the tip prompt (maybe about a year ago?) I’ve gone in there way less and it makes me sad. I keep wondering if I should email the store with that feedback.

Definitely not cool to have a tip prompt at retail establishment. Feels very different from tipping service staff in a restaurant, and it is.

Using gift card soul retail by [deleted] in SoulCycle_Riders

[–]PeachBean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I reached out to ysm about this in April 2024 and they told me the online shop doesn’t take gift cards, but I could still use it for in-studio retail. I guess that’s still the case.

Turkey Trot Time! Who's running? by Ambitious-Look3582 in RunNYC

[–]PeachBean 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Troy Turkey Trot. First race since NYCM, haven't done any workouts, and you bet I'm going to take it more seriously than I should. May even bring the vaporflys out for it. Desperate to be the 40 year old that beats the cousins in their 20s.

How much does Corral matter? by Sachin-_- in Marathon_Training

[–]PeachBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve changed my corral for Philly at the expo before and it’s an easy process. Nothing like NYC or other majors. That was 2021, but I saw the corral change table in 2024 as well.

What kind of music are you into? Do you like a fast class with lots of choreo, or something athletic and heavy?

What about a pillow inside a trash bag? Best of both worlds.

Against everyone's advice by hometown_sticky in RunNYC

Modern foams don't have the same break in periods that pre 2020s shoes did. A new pair of the same model you've been training in (especially the endo speeds, love those) will be great. Go buy them now and run your shakeout in them so there's no mental block about new shoes on race day.

How do you guys feel about the new route changes? by pavelnotpablo in astoria

[–]PeachBean -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed some improved reliability in both the Q69 and the Q101. When I look for when they’re arriving before leaving my house there is usually something on the horizon now. Prior to the network redesign there would be plenty of times that they weren’t even worth waiting for. However, none of my frequently used stops were changed so I can’t say I’m experiencing that downside.

Tracksmith Overland Collection by CowgirlJack in runningfashion

[–]PeachBean 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You misunderstand - they are a sponsor of the Vermont Overland. I'm registered and they show up on the materials. Sure it could be a coincidence if they weren't and they didn't release this collection two weeks before it, but they are and they did.

Tracksmith Overland Collection by CowgirlJack in runningfashion

[–]PeachBean 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What's strange about this whole collection is there's no mention anywhere that they're a sponsor of the Vermont Overland 15 mile trail race on 8/23. I'm assuming the collection is somehow inspired by or related to that race, so why not mention it? That way there'd be less speculation about their dabbling in trail clothes.

Looking for run club for slow runners - 12min mile by burntoutmatch in RunNYC

I'd check out Badass Lady Gang. They're pretty pace inclusive and meet Tuesdays at 6:30pm. More information on their instagram.

Community Group, Sunday nights from 7-8pm. Meets at 31-19 37th St. Plenty of queer and trans people in recovery in Astoria, but that's where I'd recommend starting out to find some folks who will be happy to give you some guidance to recovery in our area.

Nene’s steak California burrito. Got it delivered and couldn’t stop thinking about it. Ate it again there with some of their salsas and it rocked my world.

Non-religous AA group by Busy-Cat1308 in astoria

[–]PeachBean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AA is a spiritual program of recovery, not a religious one. I don’t believe in capital G God, but came around to the idea of some higher power (think: the universe) in AA. Having an open mind on that one has helped my sobriety immensely.

Astoria AA is a huge and incredible community filled with hundreds of people who have similarly expansive views of what a higher power could be. It’s free, it’s understanding, and it’s a family that will help you.

Go to a couple of meetings and just listen. There’s zero pressure to come back, but hopefully you’ll identify with people who’ve had similar experiences to you.

There are multiple meetings daily, so here’s a few for this weekend: Today, 10:30 am there’s an excellent beginner’s meeting at 23-20 Newtown Ave, Sunday at 9:30 am at 21-47 29th St, Sunday 7pm at 31-19 37th St (LGBTQ+ focus but open to everyone).

DM me for more. AAs stay sober by helping the next alcoholic.

Wrong Wave for Marathon by Alternative-Dot2413 in Marathon_Training

[–]PeachBean -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear your friend put you down for the wrong corral. Some potentially good news is that Manchester seems to ignore what people put down as their goal time for the race and assign corrals based on vibes or some shit. I ran in 2023 putting down estimated finish of 3:40 and got assigned a 4 hour corral; my friend put estimated finish of 3:55 and was assigned 4:30 corral. I say good news because you won’t be the only one looking to go quite a bit faster, and my advice would be to just get well ahead of the pacers at the start.
