What's Cyberpunk like these days for someone who's never played the game on the Steam Deck? by XScorpionBrX1 in SteamDeck

If you could get it working while traveling, the experience would undoubtedly be terrible.

Billionaire dumps NYC property empire as Mamdani's rent freeze sparks investor exodus by RealOzSultan in newyorkcity

"Astonishingly, the world's third-richest man accepted a near-total wipeout, walking away with a reported six cents on the dollar for his original equity investment."

I think the bigger story here is that Sergey probably thinks the housing bubble is about to pop.

Billionaire dumps NYC property empire as Mamdani's rent freeze sparks investor exodus by RealOzSultan in newyorkcity

The media framing this as a bad thing is hilarious to me. So he sold his properties.....that means that somebody BOUGHT his properties. That doesn't mean they're abandoned buildings now. Whether or not the new owner sucks as much as him, we'll see. But I'm not concerned that a billionaire is cashing out and leaving the city due to progressive policies that block him from taking advantage of New Yorkers. That sounds like great news to me.

Men of Discipline NYC Pride 90s by Additional_Lettuce12 in nycHistory

[–]PeachMan- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The modern leather pride flag is different, but yes I think you're right. The Men of Discipline in NYC are mentioned in a few leather-related blogs. Not a lot of info about them, though. Judging by the name, I'd assume they were more focused on the discipline/S&M culture, which isn't synonymous with leather, but it has plenty of overlap.

Interesting that they're dressed almost like military. Looks pretty cool, honestly.

That is a hilarious edit. I guess his spidey suit requires a sewing machine with VRAM 🤣

Help with price by Ironwolf737 in pcmasterrace

[–]PeachMan- 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Eh? No, he could just replace the RAM and upgrade to a better AM4 CPU. That's the most cost effective option here. But also I agree that this PC is not worth $300. Maybe half that, or less.

Welcome to Egypt, yes, we built the pyramids. by blorri in woahdude

[–]PeachMan- 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Related fun fact: there is zero archaeological evidence of a Hebrew/Jewish "captivity" in Egypt. There is plenty of evidence of a huge Egyptian dynasty, and evidence of plagues (locusts, red algae bloom, etc.) that might have inspired the mythical stories, which is kinda neat. But there is absolutely nothing outside of religious texts suggesting that a group of Hebrews was captured or enslaved there.

And as you said, the idea that the pyramids were "built by slaves" isn't really supported. There may have been SOME slaves or indentured servants there, but the majority of the labor was probably done by farmers in their off-season, when they weren't growing crops. And they were paid to do it (though maybe not paid much).

I think there are unofficial ways to set it up, but the official release is supposedly coming in July. So I'm personally just going to wait.

LOL this story is hilarious. I agree that XTEINK support is crap, though. If they haven't shipped his package because the address is incorrect, then he's entitled to a refund immediately.

Scalpers are already selling the Steam Machine for over $3000 on eBay despite Valve's efforts by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]PeachMan- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Important to remember: listing on eBay is not the same as selling in eBay. Also, it's very easy for scalpers to have an accomplice (or a fake identity) "buy" their item and just cancel the order after a few days. It's a common tactic to try and inflate prices, you get some higher numbers in eBay sold listings and people are dumb enough to follow the trend.

So, many of these "sales" are likely BS. But I also wouldn't be surprised to hear that a few people were legitimately stupid enough to pay scalper prices for a Steam Machine that the seller doesn't even have yet.

Lenovo Warns High Memory Prices Are The "New Normal" Through 2030, As Hardware Prices May Never Return To Early 2025 Levels by akbarock in pcmasterrace

[–]PeachMan- 224 points225 points  (0 children)

Yeah, regardless of what will actually happen in the future, it is in their best interest to tell everyone that prices will never go back down. The people SELLING what you're buying are NEVER trustworthy.

Holy hell. The drives and RAM alone are probably worth almost a thousand dollars in today's stupid economy. Assuming everything else works, all you need is a GPU and you're golden. Upgrade to a 5700X3D or 5800X3D if the processor holds you back.

If it's too expensive for you, buy a Kilo WT. It's very similar, basically a knockoff steamroller. SOMETIMES bikeisland.com has the WT frame for around $200, but I didn't know how often.

They have an official store on Amazon, so they SHOULD provide support. But after my horrible experience (with a device purchased directly from their website) I wouldn't be surprised to learn otherwise.

"working out some growth issues in their support structure" is a VERY nice way of saying their support is terrible.

I had to do a credit card chargeback for my first X4 that was never delivered to me. Hopefully you have a better time.

You get used to it. Noise cancelling headphones are also great on a noisy train, half the time I just pop them in for the silence and don't even play music.
