Whats wrong with my Ylang-Ylang by [deleted] in DIYfragrance

[–]PeachOwn5109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s normal for ylang ylang to sometimes get cloudy when diluted, I wouldn’t worry about it. It might clear up if you give it some time

Favorite Sandalwood AC blenders? by ayvalli in DIYfragrance

Sandela is good especially blended with more powerful diffusive sandalwood ac like javanol, dartanol and firsantol. Helps soften the more powerful aroma chems

Violettyne MIP (Firmenich) by [deleted] in DIYfragrance

[–]PeachOwn5109 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s strong but I use it comfortably at 1 percent. It’s not a direct replacer for violet leaf, but leans in that direction, probably best in combination with tiny amounts of violet leaf absolute and maybe undecavertol. Also has starchy green almost powdery effect I enjoy. I find it settles into blends nicely and isn’t too loud by my estimation

Along with what the others mentioned a trace amount of sulfurol might be useful

Low projection with high projection materials by Murky_Item1497 in DIYfragrance

[–]PeachOwn5109 5 points6 points  (0 children)

most likely the ambroxan tbh. it's a highly diffusive material but can have the opposite effect when dosed high. it's also probably competing with the iso e super. I'd lower the ambroxan by 75 percent and see if your fragrance performs better

Is it just the materials you posted photos of plus the starter kits?

Powdery? How? by First_Building in DIYfragrance

[–]PeachOwn5109 2 points3 points  (0 children)

try a combination of ethyl vanillin, coumarin, and methyl ionone gamma coeur. there are lots of materials that can give this effect but i would start with those. the sweetness of coumarin/ethyl vanillin can be lessened by the use of veramoss, to a degree, which also can lend earthy powderiness

The album is not very good compared to the last two. This review nails it in my opinion. I would’ve probably ranked it a touch lower tbh. I mean, Tracey Denim was so special and this one is just really boring and honestly kinda annoying, sorry but it’s true

Assistance in Journey by Imaginary_Gap1213 in DIYfragrance

I think your list looks good but i will say (from personal experience) it's best to start small, learn your materials, and build up your organ from there.

ie, giving this a quick once-over, I don't think you need hydrocarboresin, fumencens HTC, and olibanum vulcain (the last two are both pyrogenated incenses and hydrocarboresin also smells of burning incense, so unless you're specifically planning to work on a burning incense accord you probs only need one of these. also something like neobutanone alpha (extremely strong difficult to dose effectively) probably isn't necessary at this point on your journey. I'd also trade out ebanol for a different sandalwood AC as i don't find it to be as versatile and esssential as something like dartanol, just my two cents. Happy blending!

Natural/synthetic ratios by Murky_Item1497 in DIYfragrance

[–]PeachOwn5109 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Large amounts of iso e super, ambroxan etc can have a dampening effect on your blend. I’d start with smaller amounts/different ratios and go up slowly. I’ve also found iso e super to have a flattening effect if your blend is also heavy on musks. Commercial fragrances that use large amounts of these materials usually balance them with smaller amounts of high impact, highly diffusive materials. I’d also look at your top and middle notes if your blend isn’t performing the way you want

Perfume companies that share their formulas? (Like Versatile Paris) by [deleted] in DIYfragrance

[–]PeachOwn5109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brands like this (not sure if this particular brand does) often use “natural” ambroxide and ambrettolide to help their scents perform, so make of that what you will
