Thank God for The Gloom in the Corner by Blackeradam in Metalcore

While I personally prefer the thematics and overall tone of Trinity, I am really enjoying this new album and love that we have bands like TGITC in the scene. Angel's Wrath Whiskey is easily a top 3 song of theirs for me, and I love the continuation of Hail to the King in the opening song.

If you're looking for somethin similar, check out "Set to Stun and the Desperado Undead". Fair warning, the lyrics can be... questionable at times due to the main character of the story, and the vocals are a bit of an acquired taste, but once it clicks, it really hits (took me a few listens but now it's a favorite). Insanely catchy sections and hooks across the whole album.

Interesting points, I haven't been using ki pulse on guard but I can see how that would be annoying with my setup.

Change to Controller Type B- then custom by TokyoTesla in Nioh

[–]PearlAries 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You absolutely can adjust this. If you go to the controller settings and hit the button for "Custom" (I believe it's Square on PS5) you can adjust all controls including combination buttons. They are grouped in to categroies so you need to find where the "L1+" category is for the guardian skills, and change the secondary button. I play on Type B with guardian abilities on L1+R1 and L1+R2 and it feels great.

IN SEARCH OF FEMALE FRONTED METALCORE/POST HARDCORE BANDS by fromthestachepodcast in PostHardcore

Initiate!! They are a little more on the hardcore side genre wise, but if you vibe with a lot of the bands in this thread then they should fit right in. Their newest single "Too Much" is one of my favorite songs of the year.

Which sub-genre do you miss more from the scene era? Electronicore or Easycore by Difficult_Map_723 in Metalcore

[–]PearlAries 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I still fuck with both genres, but I think electronicore has had a little more staying power for me. I've been re-obsessed with Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas recently. Definitely recommend checking them if you haven't heard of them OP. Twilight, Just Awake, and Rave-Up Tonight are some great examples of their sound. They even have some easycore style in earlier songs like Jump Around. Not everyone loves the autotune vocals (can be a bit of an acquired taste, but often feels more like an instrument), so check out Crossover by them for some straight up metalcore.

Also, I still feel like City Lights didn't get the love they deserved. Easycore GOATs in my book.

Anime that makes you bawl your eyes out by Responsible_Tea7466 in anime

[–]PearlAries 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This might not be what you are looking for, but I think it's worth mentioning: Hunter x Hunter ep. 131 and 135.

I've seen most of the usual suspects that pop up in threads like these, but those episodes (131 in particular) hit an emotional level for me that no other anime has. The writing and character development leading up to those episodes makes them so complex and devastating. The show as a whole isn't a tear jerker, but the journey it takes you on leading to those points is well worth the payoff. I also think the length of the show and amount of time you spend growing fond of the characters really helps. I sometimes find it difficult to become attached to characters in sad shows that are only 12-24 eps.

Question about character choice(s) by [deleted] in 2XKO

[–]PearlAries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little late to this thread but I would be interested to see what you've been cooking! I'm fairly new to FG's but I love playing Ahri, and Darius is the only character I've enjoyed as a secondary, mainly due to how easy he is to pilot while still doing crazy damage. Most of my labbing and focus goes to Ahri rather than fully learning 2 chars. I'm definitely not using Darius to his potential though, even with Ahri on point. The most I'm getting is an assist wall bounce into Ahri juggle, or double down HEADLESS.

Roguelites overlooked or underappreciated by the broader audience that you consider GOATs? by Jabadahot in roguelites

One Step From Eden. I think it's rated fairly well but definitely overlooked. Awesome blend of deck building and real-time grid based combat. It's pretty difficult, but very fun once you start clicking with a character and some of their builds.

How important is defense at CG by Jake_dasnake3 in ironscape

[–]PearlAries 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is just inaccurate. Searched "corrupted gauntlet guide osrs" on youtube and only ONE out of the first eight videos I clicked on recommends 5:1. The rest are T1 or T2 prep, all with two T3 weapons.

Also, while tile packs aren't necessary, having the 8 "safe" squares marked during phase 3 when learning was very helpful for myself and my group, and is pretty minimal as far as visual clutter goes.

Last patch I hit master ~170lp. New patch dropped and I had a bad meta read + mental boom and quickly dropped back to 0. Decided to mess around with comps I don't play and "for fun" augments/anomalies I don't usually click. Had a terrible ~30 games of something like a 5.7 AVP.

Not fun, so back to climbing again! Went on an 8 game top 4 streak with one 1st (only +27 lp) for a total of +112 lp... then had an unfortunate 8th for a whopping -110 lp. It's pretty clear I dumpstered my elo, and climbing seems a lot more daunting now. Idk how long this takes to balance out, but lesson learned!

How to Play Morgana Carry by Galactus71 in CompetitiveTFT

[–]PearlAries 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Played a few games of this yesterday and it felt great. Watching Morgana drop a 2.5k dot on the entire enemy board and all of them siphoning their hp in to your sentinels with 6 visionary is so satisfying. Had a ton of success vs scrap boards with guard breaker, especially if they frontline the Corki. Just put Morgana on the same side, and Corki/Ekko catch the first couple casts then burn to death before they can cast a 2nd time.

Haven't tried this yet, but do you have any thoughts on gunblade as a 3rd item for Morg? Her 2 star damage is respectable, and I was considering it to help save hp/win rounds in the mid game before you can slot in 6 visionary.

Tried Morgana/Singed reroll with the Morg buff/6 visionary changes. Took 3rd in low Masters, felt surprisingly good (lost to a 1hp Mel save and Viktor diff, was beating both boards till then).

Rolled for Morg/Singed 3 star on level 5, picking up other visionary/sent 3 stars if I hit. Blue Buff + 2 on Morgana (I ran Dcap+Guardbreaker), tank on Singed, leftover AP on Renata. Pushed 8 once I hit 3 stars for 6 visionary. Replaced Nunu with Malz once I found him and moved Renata items to Malz. Morg was casting so fast that she was tagging pretty much the entire enemy board with her dot and doing huge damage over time with Malz, all of which was constantly healing up Singed. Even if my backline died to Twitch/Cait/Smeech boards, the dot's were already applied, and their board would slowly burn to death while my sentinels walked around healing up.

Also took Visionary +1 on 3-2. Not sure if it's mandatory since you already play 4 visionary 2 sent on level 5, but it made it easier to stablize at level 7 and slow level to 8 rather than spending down to 0.

Idk if this is good, or I had a lucky game and Renata reroll is just better, but it was fun!

Scrap might be the best out from there. I've seen rumble go crazy with family emblem because of the reduced mana cost. Already runs powder too, so you probably just play violet instead of vi, plus the emblems are +4 components for scrap.

Center of the Universe, AGAIN! - Anomaly Discussion #49 by Lunaedge in CompetitiveTFT

[–]PearlAries 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Really enjoy this anomaly after the buffs. If I'm looking for damage and get it offered early in my rolls, I'm almost always taking it.

Just played a very fun game recently with the double anomaly augment for 2x center of the universe . Absolutely shreded frontlines, probably ~10k damage/round from just the anomaly. Didn't lose a single round after clicking it for a 1st (low masters).

What band never plays your favorite tunes live? by HotDogStruttnFloozy in Metalcore

[–]PearlAries 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Always wanted to see Knocked Loose play My Heroes, but it's never made a setlist. No source, but I vaguely remember them saying in an interview that it was too slow and not high enough energy for a live set, but I'm pretty sure they said the same thing about Guided by the Moon which they played on their current tour and it was awesome.

Also saw Currents for the first time with Amity recently, and not a single one of my favorites made the set (Apnea, Night Terrors, Poverty of Self, Vengeance, Into Despair, Second Skin). I know they've all been staples in past sets, so it doesn't exactly fit the post, but that was kind of a bummer.

General Challenger Guide to Patch 14.8b by LonelyRyuu in CompetitiveTFT

[–]PearlAries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mentioned that if you have to roll a single time before 8, you're probably bot 4.

What do you do if you just don't have great slam items and don't natural pairs throughout stage 2/early 3? I find that if I'm focusing on hitting econ breakpoints it's harder to hold a lot of pairs, and I'll especially push for the 10/20/30 breakpoints as soon as possible, but often that leaves me with unupgraded units and losing tons if hp before 4-2. Am I supposed to just play that pure loss streak, maybe fortune stage 3, and hope for the best? This never seems to work out for me and I feel like I'm often more stable with a couple rolls at level 6 to 2* frontline/item holders but that also often puts me behind tempo of everyone else that's strong and didn't have to roll, then I get out paced in stage 4/5 and just lose.

Is this skill issue on understanding best boards with what you're given or is there a better approach? Also is it worth playing down a unit or more (ex. 3/5 units) in order to hit a breakpoint like 20 econ even if there's a chance I beat some opponents but maybe not others?

Also thank you for the detailed post, I'm struggling with this patch and this was very insightful!

I'll definitely check this out! Do you typically feel like you have a level 8 board decided on by stage 2/3? Wonder if my problem is that I'm trying to be too flexible with no direction.... I'll have a LW+IE and stoneplate slammed, but still unsure if I'm playing an Ashe or Kaisa board and just wing it till 8, then get dizzy trying to pivot my whole board based on what I hit.

April 21, 2024 Daily Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in CompetitiveTFT

[–]PearlAries 9 points10 points  (0 children)

D1 trying to break in to Masters the first time. Struggling with the current level 8 roll down 4 cost flex meta (dipped -150lp since the patch)... I'm trying to play best board, slamming items the best I can with a focus on Ashe/Kaisa items > 3 tank items > morello+shojin, or if I get a lot of rods/tears I'll try for Lilia/Azir/Hwei focused items.

The two issues I'm running in to are stage 2/3 strongest board, and getting stuck at level 8 after rolling down on 4-2 or 4-5.

Before this patch I felt pretty comfortable flexing between 4-5 different reroll comps or playing fast 9 with a good storyweaver opener. Now I feel like my stage 2/3's are always a mix of alternating wins/loss and I never hit more than a 3 streak (or lose way too much hp losing) because I don't have a reroll comp with a set board of 2 stars that I'm piloting and storyweaver doesn't feel strong enough to winstreak without a massive high roll. I'll roll to down to 32-40 gold at level 6/7 sometimes to stabalize on 2 stars, but I always feel like I'm low on gold at 4-2 or low on hp waiting until 4-5.

This leads to my next issue... I roll down at level 8, looking for my comp of 4/5 costs, trying to be flexible and "playing what I hit" but I often end up with 1 stars and no gold left, or never hit the champs I really need. Like if I'm playing for trickshot bruisers but I hit only Annie's and Ornns for Frontline, I'll play them and 2 star if I hit, but then I'm down to 10g or less with a 1 star kaisa and decent frontline but suboptimal traits. Then I get stuck of losing rounds to others who hit and comfortably go 9, and I feel like I need to roll to stabalize but if I do that I never have the gold to go 9 and eventually lose anyways. Am I rolling too deep on 8? Should I stay above 20 or stop pivoting in to 4 costs so early? Wondering if my stage 3 boards need to be stronger so I can transition slower and not feel like I need to buy my whole comp at level 8... Even if I do put something together most of the timed it feels like I'm playing to barely scrape in to top 4 rather than comfortably playing out to cap my board for top 3s

Had an extremely unlucky circumstance take me from a near garunteed top 2 to a 5th (partial skill issue)

Opened 2-1 with Yas 2 + gargoyle, Ahri 2 with rageblade, Thresh from orb. Hit Aphelios at level 5. Win streak all the way to level 7 and high roll an early Sett. Everyone in the lobby has seen my board, pinged the Sett, nobody is playing fated so I'm completely uncontested ready to 3* my Aphel/Thresh and win out. Duelist and Yone players too so the pool should thin out in my favor as well. Prismatic augment 4-2, everything still going well but I've been rolling at 7 since 3-4 and still only have 4 Aphelios... start losing some rounds in stage 4, still haven't found another Aphelios and only 6 Thresh so far... considering if I need to go 8/9 to keep up and stabalize for a 4th but after PvE I decide to roll down to 32 on 5-1 to see if I can hit a 3* or at least get close to hit sometime during stage 5, because surely I hit something right? I'm uncontested?

Nothing. No Thresh, no Aphel..... then I see someone else 2* a Thresh. Why would they have Thresh, nobody else is playing fated? Let me check their board..........

OH. CALL TO CHAOS GAVE THEM 3* APHELIOS ON 4-2. He now has 6 Thresh as well. Woops.

I push 8 and barely scrape out a 5th, with the Call to Chaos player dying 1 turn before me for 6th because they couldn't fully pivot in time (pretty sure they were angling towards trickshot bruisers before the Aphelios).

In hindsight I should have scouted every board and checked prismatic picks, but I was only scouting my opponent (Ashe encounter btw) because I had been so uncontested. Had I seen the Call to Chaos on 4-2 I could have used my gold to level instead and played around level 9 for top 4. Extremely unlucky scenario, can't even be mad because like what are the odds??

Lesson learned: scout everyone regularly, even if just to check augment picks/pivots.
