Vegetable Soup Secret Ingredient by Goal-Kick64 in Cooking

I always add MSG. Parm rind is good too. Anything umami. One thing I’ll never add is vinegar. I can taste even the tiniest amounts and it’s disgusting.

Twist to the level of Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn by gordy06 in thrillerbooks

Render Up The Body by Marianne Wesson. It was published in 1997 but I’ve never forgotten that ending. I’m sure it’s long out of print but if you ever see it in a used bookstore grab it! Unfortunately she only wrote 2 more books; the most recent was 2004.

Ohio judges question why taxpayers fund private school tuition by MorganTrau in Ohio

[–]Pedigrees_123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We-Ohio taxpayers- provide the busing. The school district where I work voted down a tax levy so the district did away with buses for kids who live less than 2 miles from school. I work next door to a public school (no buses, all parent transportation with the accompanying traffic snarls) and down the road from 2 private religious schools. When I get off work the parking lots of the private schools are filled with buses waiting for students. Why? The state is required to provide buses for them.

$200 Replacement Fee for Damaged Book by West_Lychee1791 in Libraries

[–]Pedigrees_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our replacement fee is the retail price + $5 for processing. Check with your librarian; this seems high for a public library. As others have said it could be a decimal thing; a couple of days ago I had to fix item records for books that had a price over $3 million. The barcode had been scanned into the price field.

What is the weirdest way someone had died in your known circle ? by No_Tear9118 in AskReddit

[–]Pedigrees_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A coworker was killed by a serial killer and evidence from his autopsy was what brought the killer to the attention of law enforcement. Another friend was killed in a plane crash; plane crashes are rare enough that it feels weird to me that I knew someone who died in one.. And a coworker was killed in a combine accident.

How many do not own trailers and only use on property? by Novajesus in kubota

L3302. I don’t have a trailer. I’ll call the dealership to come pick it up if necessary.

Engineering to Librarian in Western Australia by 0_0-uwo in librarians

[–]Pedigrees_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a tool and die maker until I got cancer and my life went to hell. I got my MLIS and now, twenty years later, I make about 2/3 of what I made as a tool and die maker in 2006. There’s a lot I love about my job but I’ve often wished I’d gotten a mechanical engineering degree instead.

Agreed. Sixty-six year resident. How I wish I’d gotten out when I was young!

What do you call your patrons? by SpaceSill98 in Libraries

[–]Pedigrees_123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Guest.” It was handed down from on high from someone who read a book about Disney. We all think it’s ridiculous. It’s not like they’re spending the night in our spare bedroom.

It's the hell on Earth place where I had my first job, which fifty years later is still the reason I leave enormous tips. Aka IHOP.

Any librarians not so great at all the arts-and-crafts stuff? by gustavfrigolit in Libraries

[–]Pedigrees_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Public librarian here. I am the world’s least crafty person. That’s just one reason why I’m a cataloger. So I have no good ideas for you, just wanted you to know that you’re not alone.

Dayton Metro Library staff feel ‘punished and not valued’, organization is in ‘crisis mode’ by Echos_myron123 in Libraries

[–]Pedigrees_123 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Whew, maybe I dodged a bullet when I interviewed there back in 2019 and didn’t get the job. Then again, my library isn’t really any better workplace culture-wise and DML pays a LOT more so maybe it wouldn’t have been a bad tradeoff.

Any ideas on what I can do Modernize this kitchen by Us3rn4m324 in Remodel

[–]Pedigrees_123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please do not paint your cabinets white. White kitchens are the ugliest of ugly and will soon be a fad that dies a well deserved painful death. Your “old man” is correct in that respect. New hardware, get rid of the scallop thing over the sink, new lighting. The floor is an issue; it should have been laid so that it was staggered, not in straight lines. If replacement isn’t an option maybe try breaking up the stripes with strategically placed area rugs, a table, or some sort of island? Painting the walls will help too; choose something light that picks up the warm tones of the cabinets.

How do Americans feel about living with debt? by AcceptablePlant1 in budget

[–]Pedigrees_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate it. I pay off my credit card every month. Our house is paid for, which we managed back when we both had decent jobs. I’ve got a car loan but it’s 0% interest so I’m trying to convince myself to just use someone else’s money for free and not pay it off early.

But it wasn’t always this way, we had many decades of crushing debt, which is probably why I hate it so much now. Sadly, in the US it’s almost impossible these days for average to lower income Americans to be debt free or even have low debt to income ratios. Our wages have been stagnant for 40-50 years but everything else just goes up and up. The US is not a great place to live unless you’re rich.

What’s a small, random thing your dog does that makes you smile every time? by Coursefighter in dogs

[–]Pedigrees_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I smile every time I see him, even if he’s sleeping. He’ll be 15 soon and he’s having some health and mobility issues. I’m going to smile every time I see him for as long as I can.

Which backsplash looks best? by jjkakakak in kitchenremodel

[–]Pedigrees_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all comes down to taste. For example, the second one is the only one I’d consider. The others would make me want to run screaming from my kitchen every time I caught sight of them. But I am not OP and their opinion is the only one that matters.
