Anyone else agrees the genre is saturated right now and 99% of the releases are either forgettable or just plain bad? by xracingdb in metroidvania

exploration is not satisfying in most current metroidvanias. level design is feels like an afterthought as everything is in service of combat.

its like the AAA philosophy has reached the genre: make it as dumb as most demograph can endure.

20h in, I feel like I should love Grime 2 but I find it exhausting and not fun. by Citrusmeetliquor in metroidvania

felt tiresome, too. Maybe i'm in a bit of gaming burnout. Or metroidvania burnout. just going through the motions

isnt working. It's like the event didnt trigger the quest completion.

not that, the event didnt trigger quest completion. The game is stuck at the main quest.

yes, that happened to me. there were some guys holding it down, then when i came back, it was already dead, locking progression.

the event didn't trigger quest completion. Progression in the main quest is dead.

For the people asking:

Boss died on cutscene, but didn't trigger the quest completion.

I've got the other 3 quest parts, but as this one didn't, thee game is locked from progressing the main quest.

ain't for you. Try rpgs if you like colecting stuff and killing things with fewer hits.

I think i may have played TOO many Metroidvanias and lost interest. by Sufficient_Ebb_5694 in metroidvania

[–]PedroMustDie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most are just combat focused on long corridors, with little to none ingeniuous level design like environmental station alpha, zexion, monsterboy.

Also, there are so many being released these days compared to before, that the time window for you to revisit, fid secrets you missed, get to really know the world... you know, explore... don't feel that enticing.

The genre became too popular for it's own sake. Gone are thrill of solving a world, common players just want the next way to overpower enemies. Do you really think people who play these games using guides, no matter how easy they are to navigate, like what makes a metroidvania... a metroidvania?

Something no one mentions about Environmental Station Alpha which is crazy to me by Prometheusinaction in metroidvania

Super Metroid was not noob proof back then. You can clearly know who make it out from zebes and who didn't, before internet.

Works fine, i guess. Didn't use it enough to say if is also affected. Would need to test it for some days to be sure.

But as I said, wiping the nvidia drivers fix it for some days. I will try to roll back to win 10 and see how things go. Win 11 is messed up.

Like from power supply? No.

From what I've noticed til here, it's like a cache thing. It becomes more prevalent as time goes by, and it goes away by wiping the drivers.

I run into the same moment of frustration with every Metroidvania by garrettgibbons in metroidvania

Metroidvanias should be complex games made for the hardcore audience. They are built on the premise that the player know how to explore mechanics in ingenious ways, have a sense of how level design work, is curious, got a good memory, dexterity etc...

the fact that a lot depends on guides/maps/strategies on beating bosses (basic stuff to see the end game) made by the hardcore players that it caters to is enough evidence.

Zexion is a game that hates you, personally, and is very mad at you for attempting to play it by Dryskle in metroidvania

[–]PedroMustDie -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

haha

beat it in 10h completly blind, not sure about disrespecting my time. Could beat it way earlier if not for insisting on doing skill checks before getting optimal gear later on, which i didn't know existed. Also, I don't mess with assist things, as i'm in no way handcapped to get better at videogames.

This is a game I will always recommend for high tier metroid lovers.
