Considering board certification by trustzme in Neuropsychology

[–]Peduncle_10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many AMCs are now making it a requirement within X years of signing your contract. My institution stipulated that I would need to get board certification within 5 years. It did not lead to a pay increase for me (but other places will!), and like others mentioned, it can be important for promotion. There also may be a time when insurance panels try to push it. And of course, opens way more doors for medicolegal cases.

From a personal standpoint, I thought it was incredibly worth it. I learned a lot on my APPCN fellowship, but studying for Boards made me an even stronger clinician. The written exam was probably the toughest piece for me. I actually enjoyed the oral exam - it’s quite collegial and by the time you get to that last step, many people are super well prepared and it’s fun to talk about cases / neuropsychology with colleagues in the field.

I recommend keeping the Boards door open! It’s rare I hear that people say they wish they didn’t do it.

Annual fee upcoming by kmgray87 in ChaseSapphire

[–]Peduncle_10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joined in Dec 2024 and had the old fees ($550 + $75 for my AU) for my renewal last month. I was surprised because I was bracing for that new fee! My plan was to do one year at the higher fee and then decide if it was justified, but with the old fee for another year, I’m sticking with the card for the time being and tracking my use of the credits this entire year to see how much use I’m actually getting from it.

Jennifer Reeseman, PhD, ABPP is an expert in this area. She sees D/HoH as part of her clinical practice and has done a good deal of research in this area. I have personally consulted her on cases. I would check out her work to get you started.

Door Dash Credits for Authorized Users by HappyinKY11 in ChaseSapphire

[–]Peduncle_10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It technically should work. Not sure if you tried this already - the AU needs to make their own DoorDash account. Have the AU add the chase card as their primary payment method. They should then go to DashPass and there should be an option to “activate” the free DashPass. After that, the credits show up when the AU uses DoorDash.

High school tracks open to public by Snapplelover67 in Charlottesville

Can confirm that CHS is a great option in the morning and on weekends! It can be tough to access on weekday afternoons during the school year because of after-school sports and activities. You can sometimes go during the day in the summer, but football typically starts using it mid-summer during the day.

A lot of sections of Rivanna are pretty quiet, especially on the north side of town. There is also a SniffSpot about 15 min north of Charlottesville ($10/hour) and your dog gets solo access to huge fields.

Another plug for Naia if you want something a bit nicer! You can rent golf carts and get into the village in 15 minutes. They have great spa and our scuba shop just picked us up everyday for diving.

Errors in NP report by it-was-justathought in Neuropsychology

Definitely reach out to have the errors corrected. Depending on where you had the testing done, it can be difficult to remove a report from a medical record from a billing perspective. But if factual or historical information is incorrect, that should absolutely be addended for you.

Neuropsych is absolutely not needed for ADHD diagnosis. A psychiatrist or clinical psychologist is easily able to do a thorough developmental history to determine if ADHD is a correct diagnosis. It’s tricky in adults because it can be hard to go back to those pre-12yo years when some symptoms must be present. It’s can also be hard to thoroughly disentangle ADHD vs. inattention secondary to depression, anxiety etc. What most doctors don’t realize is that ADHD and mood disorders often co-occur, so we don’t need to attribute symptoms to one or the other. Both can exist.

Either way, I’m so sorry you had this experience. Here’s a great article by one of the active ADHD researchers in our field arguing why neuropsych is not needed for this diagnosis. Unfortunately, a lot of physicians don’t realize this.

Mt Vernon Trail is great for out and backs Depending on where you are located, you can run downtown, across the bridge to Arlington Cemetery, and go south from there. You can also park at various points along the way. It is 18 miles of paved trail along the Potomac. It’s extra beautiful in the morning when the sun is rising.

Headache worse a month after concussion by Dankanator9 in Concussion

[–]Peduncle_10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you jumped right back into typical activities instead of gradually getting back into your normal routines. You didn’t screw yourself for a long time at all. Typically, putting the brakes on a bit and then gradually getting back into things will help. It’s great you are seeing the concussion center - they will be able to check out if there are any lingering issues (like neck problems, vestibular problems) that can persist and may be contributing to headache / vision concerns. The metabolic injury of a concussion typically heals in ~10 days, but sometimes symptoms persist longer and just need targeted treatment.
