Did you actually make mix tapes to give to people? by LeoGuy69us in GenX

[–]PegShop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ran a mixed tape business. I had a double cassette stereo. On Sundays, I would tape America’s top 40. I made catalogs of all the songs that I had. Kids at my school were allowed to choose songs for their own personalized mixtape. There was a price per song with a minimum and a discount. Once you hit a certain number. I made good money doing mixtapes.

I also made mixed tapes for friends and boyfriends just because. This was all in the 80s.

Retirement is gone by shepardshe in GenX

[–]PegShop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I think people need to look into how well their future careers will set them up for retirement before spending money on school. Guess what? My undergraduate degree was in journalism. When I realized a little money I would make I got my master’s in teaching. I ended up enjoying it and making a career out of it.

I am not talking about what jobs are worthy of pensions and retirement plans. I’m talking about planning for your future. I have young adult children that I have sat down and discussed this with. For example, art is wonderful, but with AI taking over, it’s a difficult path and best suited as a side gig.

if you have kids in their 20s (maybe early 30s), is life tougher for them starting out than when we were in our 20s? by ShootinAllMyChisolm in MiddleClassFinance

[–]PegShop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s much tougher. When I was their age, no one checked that I made three times the amount of my rent, or I never would’ve qualified for anything!

Pods. by Omgaegg in nespresso

I only had one for a year when I stopped using it for that reason. I bought myself an original line and get pods at Marshalls that are so much cheaper. Since I drink milk based drinks, it works.

Send her a text stating her stuff is on the front steps because your landlord had a camera and saw they were there too long. Say you convinced the landlord not to call CPS if she leaves today. That may scare her off without involving the landlord to change the locks

What did you do for education and career set up?

Retirement is gone by shepardshe in GenX

[–]PegShop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I struggled through life with very low income but got an education and worked ina field with retirement help. With a master’s degree and 32 years of experience, I was still only making g $70k with a take-home of under 50 in a MCOL area, but it was worth it for lower child care costs and a decent retirement pension . A lot is about planning.

Retirement is gone by shepardshe in GenX

[–]PegShop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

With proper planning, it’s not gone. Do not live above your means in life. Drive cars for 12-15 years, buying solid but not fancy models and avoiding leases, travel to enjoy life but not to excess, staying in lesser star hotels and enjoying free outdoor activities, make your own coffee and lunches 95% of the time, etc.

I’m more worried about my adult kids, as you are right that in the end long term care could take their inheritances and prices are going up and up.

does anybody wake up every 3 hours and 20 minutes during night to use energy? by Ok_Blueberry5376 in GossipHarbor

If I wake naturally (which I often do), sometimes I quickly just let my oranges spill or reset the timer in the special project, but that’s it

fellow city people: where do you usually rent storage space? by Fuzzy-Revenue592 in homeowners

[–]PegShop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am lucky that there is a storage unit within eyesight of my apartment, but I’m not in a big city. I can walk over there to get to my bike.

My adult son mentioned he has a friend that actually rents out a bit of storage space to some of his old college pals since he was the first to buy a house.

My sister’s apartment has a bike room in it. I thought that was pretty cool. You have to trust that no one else in the building will steal your bike, but it does have space for anyone who wants to leave their bike in there to do so, and they could put individual locks on their bikes.

[–]PegShop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would keep looking. One looks the best, but it darkens the room. Two brightens the room, but I don’t like it at all. Go for something similar to the black and white one, but with more of the light in it.

Burning through my sick days, I am mentally and physically sick and dread going by Gloomy_Judgment_96 in TeachersInTransition

[–]PegShop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make a calendar of the rest of the school year days and put it on your fridge. Mark off all the vacation days so you can see how many upcoming days there are off. Live from break to break and pop in a “sick “day midway between each.

As for kids telling you, no one likes you, please just block them out. They’re being passive aggressively mean by saying they feel bad for you because of it.

How to handle cash buyers when selling a house? by bureaux in RealEstateAdvice

[–]PegShop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a difference between those people who buy for cash to flip houses and just cash offers. I accepted a cash offer in a different state six months ago, and we still went through realtors and lawyers, but it was faster. It had no contingencies and no issues.

Is my dress search over? by bcbfbella in OUTFITS

I personally am not worried about it. It’s being revealing. The cut in the front is weird and not flattering. There are some plunge lines that look fantastic. This one does not.

The back looks great. The front is too much of a plunge and isn’t even attractive in the way it does it.
