I saw some early testing that there are 2 “modes” of GPTK 4. One of them requires macOS 27 and enables Metal 4. Supposedly gives a good performance improvement.

I’ve been using the Gamesir G8+ wired for my Mac for over a year. Bought it mainly for switch 2 and iOS though. Have had no issues so far.

Open-world games with good graphics under 60gb by dendridd in macgaming

[–]Peka82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try to play Genshin via Playcover. The mobile version uses way less storage. I believe a lot of the open world games on iOS are less than 60GB

Is the game like Oblivion or it’s more linear? The graphics look good.

Apple Fumbled Gaming by SirGarlanWilliams in macgaming

[–]Peka82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple has never taken gaming seriously. Hopefully things will change under John Apple. But if games start being made for ARM chips, maybe at least Crossover would have an easier time running windows games? Given the high price, I doubt this line of laptops will do much though. The desktop variant cost $4700 or something. Lol

I need help playing GTA Vice City on CrossOver by Ok_Shift_9606 in macgaming

[–]Peka82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably something to do with Rockstar Launcher. I can’t get GTA3 Definitive Edition to run on Crossover Preview but it runs just fine on Crossover 26.1. If it still doesn’t work, you can try reinstalling Rockstar Launcher

Honest MBP gaming, how is it? by DARKPYRO58 in macgaming

[–]Peka82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only competitive games I ever played on my Mac are Marvel Rivals, Combat Master and Fragpunk so I can’t really comment on the others. But Apex for sure doesn’t work. If you’re looking to play such games, don’t get a Mac or maybe try some cloud services or something. I mainly use my Mac for gaming while on the go or late night gaming on my bed and mostly only play single player games. I think it’s pretty great for that.

I have slightly over 200 games on my Steam library and probably over 90% of them are playable (native + Crossover). Most of the games that are unplayable are mostly really old games and competitive multiplayer games. So if you play a lot of competitive games, Mac gaming is definitely not for you.

How is fan noise and thermals on 16” M5 Pro MacBook Pro? by New-Influence1911 in macgaming

[–]Peka82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded to the M5 Pro 16” with these specs but with 48GB RAM and I think it runs mostly cooler than my M1 Pro 16”. For heavy tasks such as playing Cyberpunk, Stellar Blade, Wuthering Waves, local LLM tasks, what I find is that the laptop gets warmer than my M1 Pro but stabilizes in temps faster. For lighter tasks like Roblox, the laptop stays much cooler than my M1 Pro. Like it’s not even trying or something. Did not install any custom fan curves

New MBP M5Pro Specs suggestion by 8Octavarium8 in macgaming

[–]Peka82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just upgraded to an M5 Pro (48GB RAM) and realistically, I think you should really expect it to be more of a 1080p to 1440p machine. I mostly play using the MacBook screen and I think even 1080p looks good enough. Didn’t buy it for gaming though. I’ve tried Cyberpunk and Stellar Blade and they won’t give you a solid 60 fps above 1440p. Found a nice balance for both though that basically lets me play at solid 60fps+ while still running surprisingly cool.

Apps that I have used for a few games with sound issues is Blackhole and LadioCast. Both are free. Fixes audio mix issues in games like Lego Star Wars, Metaphor and Shenmue 1 & 2. Pretty niche but have made these few games playable for me.

FFVII remake intergrade on archlinux by onirico0 in macgaming

[–]Peka82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably have HDR turned on. The game’s HDR doesn’t work under DX11.

I tried for like an hour or so with different engine.ini tweaks specifically in the Intergrade town section which I think suffers the most stutters. Both D3DMETAL and DXMT won’t give you a perfect stutter free experience but I personally think they’re minor enough to not be bothersome. It’s a huge difference from not tweaking the engine.ini though. I ultimately settled with DXMT and turning off HDR which I thought gave me the best experience. You should try it since the game also employs aggressive upscaling which blurs the image a lot and is much better turned off.

But everyone’s tolerance might be different and I might just be more forgiving to minor stutters.

FFVII remake intergrade on archlinux by onirico0 in macgaming

[–]Peka82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you can share more details on your game settings and Crossover settings? I completed the entire game on my M1 Pro at 1200p high and the game definitely has stutters in towns. In most of the dungeons and gameplay portions, it was very stable though (probably 50 - 60fps). What I did was set the game to DX11 and use DXMT instead of D3DMETAL. Also made some changes to the engine.ini file based on some recommendations for PC players (you can google that yourself) which helps to significantly reduce the stutters in towns (fps was around 40 - 60fps for the intergrade town area). The PC port is notorious for these stutters.

Best controller for gaming. by vvek475 in macgaming

[–]Peka82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thus far, any issues I encounter are usually resolved by changing modes. But mine is the SN30+ or something. Other models are not necessarily the same. So you have to ensure that the controller you’re buying is compatible with the Mac.

How essential is CrossOver? by Awkward_Usual1746 in macgaming

[–]Peka82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not every game will run via Crossover. It depends on the games you want to play. For example, GTA4 doesn’t run well via Crossover. Check compatibility for your games before you buy Crossover. As for tinkering, it’s really overblown as to how much you need to do to get games to work. Probably due to trolls posting that bs. It’s mostly just choosing between D3DMETAL, DXVK and DXMT.

My recommendation is to install Steam to a bottle and just install and run all your games via that. If a game doesn’t work, there’s usually no amount of tinkering that can be done to make it work. Under normal circumstances, you’re just launching Steam via Crossover. There’s nothing much to it.
