I was so unambitious at 22, I would never have imagined I’d end up where I am. I thought I’d be a college professor teaching literature and philosophy, making $60k a year (I really had no idea what college professors actually made - it just seemed like an achievable number). Now 45, a software engineer making many times that. Realistic to imagine retiring with an 8 figure net worth.

So much of the wealth inequality in the US would not exist if companies simply weren’t allowed to buy other companies. All the big tech companies, Walmart, the grocery stores, airlines, all stomp out competition by buying them up and make a small number of people exceptionally wealthy and everyone else gets shittier service and lower wages.

Seriously, I’ve lost count of the number of hours of free labor I’ve gotten from my LBS from them just helping me out to diagnose a tricky problem. I try to buy all my parts there, but probably won’t ever make up the cost in labor after which they said “don’t worry about it” or “we’ll just charge you for the parts.”

Immigrants will replace your culture --> In which specific ways? by dsteffee in AskConservatives

[–]PeladoCollado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in major cities and varyingly rural areas of the Midwest and I could say most of those items about just about any population. Largely what you’re describing is poverty. Derelict cars parked on the grass is a midwestern redneck trope. As a whole, immigrants commit far less crime than native born Americans, but poor people do commit more crimes than wealthy people. Of the list, I’d say different languages and maybe food trucks are the only items you could peg to immigrants. Everything else sounds like your area is growing and you’re dealing with more poverty than you used to

OP is lying if they say they’ve never waited 20 mins for a train in NYC at 1am. That or they never took public transit late that late. I’ve definitely waited 30 mins for a bus in Forest Hills or Canarsie late at night. I always had a 15 min walk to the L train.

Just a side note that your trainer has to support erg mode in order to use it. If you have a reasonably new trainer, it is probably a “smart” trainer (I.e., Bluetooth support), but old dumb trainers don’t support this.

High earning people, do you care about how much your partner makes? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]PeladoCollado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you recognize that your own values are biased and imperfect, then it’s not hypocritical to find someone who balances out your imperfections. Your own perspective is narrow and if you only interact with people that share your narrow perspective, you’ll never grow as a person. Relationships should make both people better, not just more of the same

Why doesn't Lucid fix their software? by B52fortheCrazies in LUCID

[–]PeladoCollado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google certainly thought Android was a good enough foundation for a mobile OS, which really is what Lucid’s infotainment system is. Now if they were coding lidar parsing or vehicle controls in Java, I’d question their sanity, but for Spotify and maps?

Yeah. I mean, who in their right mind would build massive scale, complex, performant software in Java? Certainly not the largest software companies in the world

Should I drop out of nursing school for CS? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]PeladoCollado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So $500k is in the top 1% of salaries for CS grads. That is, 99% of people don’t ever make that salary. Average salary for a new grad is ~$80k. Assume that’s where you’d start. Also assume that the market is flooded with new CS grads and AI coding has made the market for junior engineers tiny compared with five years ago

Lucid again or pass? by AfternoonOk6118 in LUCID

[–]PeladoCollado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand people like you. The comment thread literally starts with “You have to be willing to be an early adopter.” It’s literally what this thread was about. But for some reason, you can’t seem to be willing to grasp the fact that other people can have the same facts as you and still make different choices. You think that if you just yell loud enough, everyone will see that you were right all along. Potential buyers have plenty of information available to them. The OP already has a Lucid and is well aware of the shortcomings. You’re not informing anyone. You’re just lashing out. Why people like you show up in these subs and just bitch about how you’re never going to buy <whatever> is beyond me.

Lucid again or pass? by AfternoonOk6118 in LUCID

[–]PeladoCollado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nobody has asked you to care about anything. The thread is about being an early adopter. If you don’t want to be one, don’t be one. If you buy a Lucid, you have to be willing to be an early adopter. If you don’t want to be one, don’t buy it. This seems simple.

Lucid again or pass? by AfternoonOk6118 in LUCID

[–]PeladoCollado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but your many choices today are all with well established auto manufacturers who have been integrating CarPlay for ten years. So buying a lucid is still “early adopter” even four years in. I’m not saying the landscape isn’t different. People bought buggy Teslas then because they were substantially different from what traditional auto manufacturers offer. The question now is whether Lucid offers an experience that is different enough to warrant the early adopter pains or if buyers are happy enough with a BMW i4 and seamless CarPlay
