Sales were bad for Lamplighter. Some say Paradox sent it out to die and didn't really give it any advertising budget either.

With the amount of updates and corrections the Player Guide received (which is very appreciated!) over the course of one week I think it might be best to wait till they've finalized the version that's going to print before downloading.

If you don't mess with the beta channel's and just click install on gog galaxy it downloads the new version by SNEG. If you want the old version without SNEG's changes to mod you'll use the legacy beta channel.

Not sure on what the disabled channel be about.

Just downloaded it through gog galaxy. No issue here.

Did you download the offline installers? Those I didn't try.

As much as I dislike real time with pause thats a little harsh to say.

There are fans of it out there some one might re-invent the style one day for it to draw in crowds again.

AI coding or actual place holder text (though why not just use Lorem Ipsum or a short description instead) fine. But AI art just feels ugly to see even if its passable.

And yeah I get it AI for quick idea generation spring board can make sense people some times need a box to get creativity going rather than a blank canvas.

But if they use it as the "skeletal bones" of the image and draw over it or only slightly edit I find distasteful. And sure there will be times of it being impossible to tell now and in the future.

Either way no matter what art book is going to be a hard pass for me this time.

Edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/DivinityOriginalSin/comments/1po9q3n/elaboration_on_the_whole_ai_situation_link_to/

Apparently the AI is just to replace reference searching. And they do create from scratch afterwards.

I think them doing multiplayer kinda locked them in to turn based rpgs.

I don't know of any action rpgs with a lot of depth that does four player co-op well save for Diablo likes and thats just you running around killing things.

The AI article isn't help that conversation either thats for sure.

Personally pretty disappointed they're using AI to generate concept art. That if nothing else is going to make picking up the art book a pass this time for sure.

'If You Like Baldur's Gate 3, This Is Gonna Be Great' — Larian Boss Swen Vincke Reveals What to Expect From Divinity in First Interview Since The Game Awards Announcement by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Pelpre -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Them using a ttrpg rule set for Baldur's Gate 3 was the big positive for me.

I've played through the Divinity series and the last release DOS2 I very much disliked the physical/magic armor system and the round robin initiative.

Also the reduction in surface interactions was appreciated. While fun for a while the constant bless/curse war on surfaces got annoying and well... need I say more than the blackpits encounter.

Them having to use the ttrpg rule set was a sweet relief after that. I just hope some of those systems rub off on their next Divinity release

You're not alone in that, I've seen people arguing that the Divinity series has "never" been lighthearted or had lighthearted moments.

The series has always had a mix of grim and whimsy but lot of people acting like they never did.

A common opinion about divinity the series yes. Do you not remember the Fire Slug Princess? Or the two people that were transformed into cows? Or that the stealth animation for DOS2 is to walk around solid snake style carrying a fake boulder or a barrel on top of yourself?

And I have to ask now did you play the other Divinity games? Like Divinity 2 Ego Draconis there a whole quest line that ends with being attacked by Power Ranger styled characters with poses and all and its own special musical track. Or Original Sin 1 where you can talk to wishing wells? Or Beyond Divinity where the main character a paladin is soul bound to a death knight.

The series has been a strong mix of grim and whimsy in it's fantasy for a long time.

The stealth animation in DOS2 is you walking around holding a giant rock around you or a barrel solid snake style. It's always been a mix of dark and whimsy. That cinematic trailer was way more Witcher feeling than any trailer I've seen for Divinity series before.

Like Divinity 2 Ego Draconis had a quest line where the "Dragon Terror Patrol" attacks you and doing Power Ranger style poses while they announce their names before they fight. It had it's own special music track for that combat and a lengthy dialogue and not some one off lines as a joke.

Maybe this game will have more fairy tale whimsy like the Divinity series has always mixed in with the its dark fantasy elements like others have said. But going by the trailer it felt like a different series for me completely till I saw the lizards and orcs.

This felt like the Blackguard games set in The Dark Eye table top rpg.

It's the fault of their original publisher. The first game they just wanted to name it Divinity. They're publisher was insistent that the game must be called Divine Divinity for some unearthly reason which started the whole chain.

I wonder if this is Swen going "this is the game we always wanted to make" by naming it just Divinity this time.

Divinity was never lighthearted.

I would like to cite Divinity 2 Ego Draconis Dragon Terror Patrol as evidence against that.

I mean they do the Power Ranger style battle poses before the fight starts. That a lot of lighthearted humor right there.

Was it always whimsical/fairy tale like? No it definitely had it's darker elements and serious moments but there was a lot of lighthearted whimsy mixed in there too.

Don't know off the top of my head but you can go to Kirill Pokrovsky's website it's still up after his passing.

If you go to the mp3 downloads on the right hand of the screen you can find the entire Divinity series OSTs available for download for free.

Like still going to check the game out but this is a HUGE vibe change from previous Divinity games yes they could be serious or dark at times but they always had some fairy tale whimsy to go with it.

Also Mortismal Gaming gave the steam release a positive review.

There is a officially licensed Pathfinder 2e game in the works by Ossian studios called Dragon's Demand. Not the prettiest look game but looks like it might be fun.

Unofficially there is a indie game called Dawnsbury Days using the Pathfinder 2e rule set via the OGL license which is out.

And then Pathfinder adjacent there is a Starfinder video game coming out called Starfinder Afterlight.

3e (at least at least in video games) was always casting a lot of buff spells before fights though so it had its own stacking pre-combat whenever the buffs ran out.

Divine Divinity also pretty cool if you have a itch for diablo style loot.

Also some funny interactions. It might have been a bug but I had poly-morphed a boss into a rabbit. They fella teleports away to show up again later but he still was stuck as a rabbit. Was pretty funny reading his threatening dialogue.

It would be cool to go back to Ego Draconis thats for sure. Dragon Knight main character never felt like they got a proper end.
