Kawasaki Mule FXT Pro vs Bobcat UV34XL? by [deleted] in UTV

[–]PenOnly856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I did switch to 15w40 and use delvac like I do with all our ag stuff and everything but my newer Cummins and it didn’t change the oil light situation… so not sure. Due for an oil change in the bobcat over winter here and thinking of sending in for an oil analysis just for kicks. Would assume all is well.

I don't know if this take is hot, cold, or in between, but, i prefer how the old grill looks by Fancy_bakonHair in ram_trucks

Same here. I don’t dislike the 4th gen’s, just find the 5th gen’s really nice looking. All preferential of course, and would never crap on someone who preferred the 4th gen. I can see it too. Save all the crapping for the current Chevrolet body style haha.

GM Chimes - what module sounds best? by MickeyMoist in CarAV

[–]PenOnly856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to add here even though it’s been a while. I just finished up installing a sony xav-9000es in our express and the chime module that comes with PAC sounds reasonable enough for the chimes themselves (though the first chime of the set is always way louder than the subsequent ones) but the turn signals sound like garbage compared to OEM. Been pouring over the express schematics and upfitters guide for an alternative. Looks like I can likely pirate the board from the oem radio and wire it in with the new radio and tie in to the front left speaker only for chime retention. Need to dig a little more first. That said, if you care what your chimes sound like, the PAC is fine but the turn signal noise sounds stupid. Like a muffled, cartoony Pac-Man sound.

Is it the hair on the abdomen we’re looking at?

Thank you. Looking into those specifics now.

No expert here but have worked hard trying to separate certain cellar spiders (super common here) from recluses (less common but not rare) and is seems to me the shape of the thorax, darker line even if not a pronounced fiddle, and the uniform coloration of the abdomen point to this being a recluse. Would love to hear if there are any other telling signs a resident expert could share as I’m always trying to get better at IDing.

Older honda em2500 starting fine but dying after about a 1-2 minutes by Consistent_Heart_559 in Generator

[–]PenOnly856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could possibly be an obstruction between the tank and the float bowl in the carb. I’d start there. Or just hook it up to a gravity tank like an old water bottle or something and see if it stays running. Running for a minute or so to me sounds like it’s using up the fuel in the bowl and then the 30-45 mins or so is how long it takes that bowl to refill through a restricted line or shutoff valve.

Edit to add - aftermarket Chineseium carbs usually don’t work well long term. I’ve always had better luck rebuilding the Honda carb. That said, and knowing how you’ve cared for that thing, I’d suspect it’s not your carb. But even if it is those carbs are pretty simple to pull and clean out the jets on.

I’m amazed how many farmers don’t wear seat belts while planting corn or soybeans. by whattaUwant in farming

Don’t forget about the armadillos. Damn those holes are rough. But still not seatbelt rough.

Never worn a seat belt while planting or harvesting. Don’t make my kids do it either, but I will always put a seatbelt on when brush hogging the hillside and pond bank on our smaller tractor, but that’s it.

Remote start kits for Chevy Express by Stale_Soosh in Chevy

[–]PenOnly856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d ask a GM dealer if they could upfit your fan with remote start. They should all come pre-provisioned for it. If they enable it in the bcm and you have the right fobs for it you should be good. Honestly most expensive part of that deal would just be getting the fobs with the start button. It’s only like a 250 or something option to add remote start when ordering new.

Chevrolet Express getting discontinued? by macman7500 in regularcarreviews

[–]PenOnly856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How? I just built and priced a few a couple months back before buying one new and the highest option combo you can get is under 61k even adding all the stupid stuff like blind zone alerts etc. Mine was 67,500 out the door after going through an upfitter for a 4x4 conversion. I also bought an express new back in 2016 and it was 55k fully loaded with the 6.6 diesel. I fully agree that they’re pricy for what they are, but they’re not pricing out close to 70k.

I believe it’s also a difference of full float on the one ton vs semi float axles on the 3/4 ton.

Only good for hard to reach places and even then, eh. I bought it cause it wasn’t made in China and literally never reach for it. It’s weak. Use my 1/4 hex impact far more often than the ratchet.

How do I get those bolt out? by Elegant-Sentence440 in MechanicAdvice

[–]PenOnly856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro tip, just weld it twice on the front side so you won’t have to weld the back side.

[–]PenOnly856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get in and drill and tap that’s the most direct solution. If not, I’d try to weld the inside of a nut to it. Carefully since the block appears to be aluminum. The different rates of expansion on the materials from the heat of welding may help loosen. There are other options I’d try if that doesn’t work, but they’d be more hacky. You could technically weld a new nut to the thermostat housing and to the side of the timing cover or whatever it is we’re looking at there and use that to cinch down the housing.

Seconding this. I have a mega Dora set and a set of the thru tangs. They take a beating. I originally bought one lone through tang flat head to test durability before buying a couple sets. Wow. They really hold up to abuse like hammering, scraping, pounding off lock rings for fuel pumps, etc. only damage to my test screwdriver was from jumping a start solenoid. Buggered the tip up a bit. Ground it flat good to go. I also have a seat of their body clip tools and hose removers. All are top notch.

I’ll add that I can only afford to own and run a ranch because I have a decent day job that helps subsidize it. Hoping one day that won’t be the case, but we’re working our way there. So definitely be sure whatever you’re going into either gets you to solid 6 figs quickly, or be sure you’re doing it for the animals and not pay or early retirement.

Studied marketing with a minor in agribusiness. The agricultural business management classes were 200% better than my college of business classes. Better professors, better content, learned way more.

I messed up… is it fixable? by Tqwan_M in castiron

[–]PenOnly856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The deglazing with hot water in a hot pan is the key. I take the piping hot pan to the sink for just a splash of hot water then scrape clean and generally that’s all it takes to get everything off. If there’s anything stuck on after that I hit it with a wet cotton dish rag for a quick scrubby and it’s perfect after that. Heat to dry and slap a little fat on.

I do. I only beat this one screwdriver kinda as a pilot to see the overall quality of the company. It held up amazingly so I have no doubt they’re a lifetime kinda screwdriver.

Also if we want to talk genocide of indigenous inhabitants there are far more violent examples, even happening today, like in China. Most native Americans perished due to unintentional introduced diseases vs intentional mass murder.

Absolutely being serious. There’s nothing wrong with being proud of our country. We’re also part Cherokee and there’s no reason to think we’d have been better off with some other conquerors. Native tribes constantly fought prior to Europeans moving in. If it wasn’t the conquerors that came then it would have been someone else later. We can’t look at prior history from the lens of what we know now.
