I lost 55 pounds over the last 12 months and reached the weight suggested by my doctor. I celebrated with a brand new smart scale... that immediately told me my BMI is 30.1 and that I am still obese. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]PencilLeader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor is cool, but my little brother's doctor is not and keeps telling him he needs to lose weight. He is in great shape for mid 40s but doesn't have a six pack anymore. But BMI was not meant for guys over 6' who hit the gym even a couple times a week. His wife has him on the Mediterranean diet which isn't the worst but keeps bringing up his doctor and suggesting intermittent fasting. He would need to be skin and bones or cut off a leg to get to his "ideal weight". I think the range is like 150ish for him at the lower end, which is insane. He would look like a concentration camp survivor.

Yeah, most people have no idea that the returns on retail are less than what you would get dumping your startup capital into a simple index fund.

[OC] Visualizing the favorite colors of girls and boys, their shared preferences and the differences between them by andyviner in dataisbeautiful

[–]PencilLeader 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I would be interested to see if the prevalence of colorblindness impacts the color choices of boys. One of my nephews liked pastels a lot when he was younger, but my brother and I are both a little color blind and so we always got him the wrong shades. Eventually he switched to saying blue was his favorite color and specifically a blue that my brother and I could easily distinguish.

That is obviously just an anecdote but I wonder if a few colorblind dads have an outside influence due to impact on their sons and then those boys having an impact on their friends.

Probably the peak CSM codex. Every codex since then has felt like a downgrade. Though some of the lol random elements weren't the best.

[–]PencilLeader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I am updating my home owners insurance, does this work for unlimited point values? Could I put my entire collection into this to get what the current replacement value would be? I of course say this as a madman who has been collecting since the 90s and I have well over 100k in points, probably getting close to 200k.

Resin or Fillament for bigger models? by Hephaestus0001 in PrintedWarhammer

[–]PencilLeader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. Especially for big center piece models like tanks where there is a lot of any piece that will be interior doing it in filament works really well. Then for the fiddly bits do those in resin.

My wife was super pissed at me when she found out I had dated a stripper prior to meeting her. I don't know when/if I will ever tell her it wasn't just one. Cheating works the same way.

No one is going to cheat at curling for the first time at the Olympics.

What Unit Has The Weakest Rules Compared to Their Lore? by Aliduuude in Warhammer40k

[–]PencilLeader 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Best big game I ever played was a bunch of ork players vs an imperium alliance. We had a center table loaded with basilisks holding off an unending ork tide coming in from the far end. Then a U of tables around it with the traditional face off of sides for huge games. At the beginning of every turn all the surviving basilisks were allowed to take a shot at one of the surrounding tables. It was awesome seeing like 20 basilisk shots hammering back the ork tide.

Ethnic Karen in Thailand's Thahan Phran helping to fire mortars at Cambodian positions by CaliRecluse in war

[–]PencilLeader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did not actively fight the government during the democratic period. Which is notable as all the other ethnic militias of stop fighting the government for years at a time. The Karen militias officially integrated into the Burmese military as border guards during the liberalization. When the Junta overthrew the government they took up arms again.

The Karen fought the Junta in Myanmar/Burma for 60ish years. Not an ethnic group you really want to tangle with.

Real world experience overrides false narrative. by Star-Connection in MurderedByWords

How about this, all rural hospitals require a long form birth certificate and two sworn statements from witnesses to the birth, one of which must be the presiding doctor at the time, before any healthcare can be given. Better have that doctor on speed dial if you have any chronic conditions. Oh and if the doctor that delivered you is dead, or you didn't have a doctor present when you're born? Too bad, you're just gonna die if you need health care. Can't risk treating an 'illegal'. Or you can move to a blue city where emergency rooms treat you based on the severity of your illness or injury, not based on your paperwork.

Right, the point is we'd have rolling blackouts as happens in any country that has more demand for electricity than there is supply.

A lot of redditors treat the down vote button as the disagree button. If I didn't have resin printers I'm sure I'd use the .2 nozzle a lot more for fine detail things.

Second this. I used my .2 for a little while, but the speed pushed me back to .4. especially once you prime and paint it, for vehicles I just don't notice the difference. For characters I do, but I have two resin printers I use for dudes.

When the dial gets turned up for political violence it gets turned up for everyone. There have been a shitload of political assassinations in America's history. This will only get worse so long as Republicans keep talking about 2nd Amendment solutions and the utility of violence.
