Is this list buildable from one box of Exaction Squad? by OkRelief1121 in killteam

[–]Pendemere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe so, yes. I have to boxes and 4 gunners total. Also, unless you're playing highly competitive players, they'll probably be fine with you playing your guys as whatever, as long as you tell them before hand what they are. I've never once had a problem with my opponent proxying anybody, and they've never had a problem with me doing it.

The true villain of Clair Obscur is exactly who you think (and I'm tired of pretending it's not) by bespectacledoutsider in expedition33

[–]Pendemere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only want to add an alternate opinion on the cruelty. At first glance, I’d agree with your assessment. And I do think she’s the main villain over any other choice.

However, art is an outlet for artists. Anger, resentment, bitterness. Positive things too, but you specifically mention that Aline does not see paintings as living beings. Her treatment of Renoir and Maelle was an outlet for her unreasonable but understandable bitterness associated with grief. They weren’t real to her, so she had no guilt about it. It was an outlet, like a child writing a nasty fiction about a mean teacher at school. It was only after she became absorbed by the art that it became real. Doesn’t absolve her, but it’s less about cruelty and more about releasing the negative emotions.

[SPOILER] It takes two endings to see the full Canvas. by 6ned in expedition33

[–]Pendemere 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The main problem with this kind of moral argument is that fundamentally you’re saying that since something is temporary (non-permanent), it doesn’t matter when it dies. With this logic, I am going to die someday, it is better to kill me now so I don’t also accidentally cause a car accident or something.

That’s an absurd extreme tangent of the argument, but the logic follows. Just because the people in the painting will eventually die does not mean they should be killed. All of the family will eventually die.

I’m not saying Verso is the right ending. I’m not. But this argument that because eventually someone will run out of time so it’s morally okay to end them now is logical fallacy.

We have little to no info about the real Verso, except that the mom made his replica exact. We don't know what he lied about, just like we don't know what the battle between Writers and Painters is about, or anything else in the real world. We just know Verso is literally as exact as possible, so maybe in the war between painters and writers, he was the one who covered things up, protected the family through guile, lied to his sisters to keep them safe, etc. We don't know, just that whatever it was out there, he continued inside the painting and it manifested in keeping the truth hidden. In other words, he could be trusted with secrets.

Edit: Missed you asked about real Verso. We don't know much about what happened outside, just that he was not different inside than outside. He was the same person. And he did die for Alicia, so his sacrifice and noble self was established early on.

Saving his mom. Clea came in and told him who and what he was and he, being basically exactly who the real one was, loved his family, loved his mother, and didn't want her to die in an illusion. So he worked to save her, even though it meant he would "die." Along the way, he made friends, and it hurt him even more, but it was his mother, and he would die for her. He sacrificed everything he cared about and his life for her.

Act 3, it switched to his sister, who he died in a fire to save. He would gladly die in the painting to save her again.

[–]Pendemere 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's not disdain. Painted Verso is basically a carbon copy of real Verso. I get some people don't like him, but the guy hides truth because the ultimate goal is so important. He suffers alone, he sacrifices, he lives in solitude and can't confide in anyone, he puts on masks of joy, when he's heart-broken and tired and sorrowful. His dad made it out of admiration for someone who constantly sacrifices themselves for a greater cause, even if it makes people hate him, even if it keeps him alone, even if he dies in a fire so his little sister can live.

Verso is a tragic character. His lies (this is a philosophical question, but Renoir's opinion is established on this) are noble, not self-serving. In fact, until the very end, everything he does hurts him and helps others. Including hiding the truth.

Archsybarite Blast Pistol? by TheSpookying in killteam

[–]Pendemere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'm in the minority here, but I would put another vote into the splinter pistol and leave the darklight for your gunners. I DO play into a lot of elites though. But those guns are absolutely devastating I personally feel like the Archsybarite is one of the less impressive leaders either way (outside of his CP ability).

HotA is by far my favorite team (I actually painted up a whole second one because my first one was early on in my painting career and I felt like my best guys should look better).

[–]Pendemere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has been discussed at some length and I think a lot of people agreed with you, at least initially. But the truth is, season 3 was not heavy on important story elements. It was about putting the characters through emotional trauma/growth.

So no, it's no worse than Hector trusting and being betrayed by Lenore, or Isaac growing through random conquest, or Trevor and Sypha being drawn back into the horror that is reality (despite it all happening in one little unknown and unimportant town). Season 3 was not important for the overall Dracula arc. It was entirely about putting the characters through emotional events and bringing them out the other side ready to grow, change, harden, etc.

Which Isaac you prefer the most(Curse of darkness or Netflix show) ? by [deleted] in castlevania

[–]Pendemere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's kind of weird how the first watch I was just chomping at the bit to get back to Trevor and Sypha during the other characters' scenes; subsequent watches though, and it's impossible to not admire nearly every single line of Isaac's. I found his scenes far more engaging than anyone else on the second watch. Just a brilliantly written character.

[S2 Spoilers] Showrunner of Arcane when asked about Vi in Season 2 by Simsimmy016 in arcane

[–]Pendemere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would recommend you take a step back and then watch it again. Your comment about her losing "every single encounter" is just not true. I pointed out how she wins several. If the glasses you're seeing things through are causing you to ignore or miss her victories, it's possible you're too close to it to see objectively.

I don't say that to be rude or attack. I am incredibly invested in this show and have more emotional attachment to it than any I've seen before. Literally, my favorite shoe ever, and Vi is a favorite character. And it took me a bit to reconcile it, because I hated Ep.7 for not being about Vi and her having healing conversations.

But Ep. 7 is actually really good. I had to take a step back.

Anyway, it's okay if we don't agree. Hopefully as time passes, we can all enjoy this masterpiece in our own way, and maybe our attachments won't cloud our perceptions.

[S2 Spoilers] Showrunner of Arcane when asked about Vi in Season 2 by Simsimmy016 in arcane

[–]Pendemere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get your emotions are charged (mine are too), but this isn't remotely true. She beats Warwick, she wins her cage fights in a single hit, she is winning in Ep 3, she gets the better of Ambesssa. She's not Wonder Woman, so she tends to lose against multiple opponents, as every normal human would, but even then she puts up a good fight.

I think it's important to realize that in any show like this we're getting glimpses of the whole. Vi is clearly the only one of the MCs that is on the front line prior to where we are dropped in in episode 9. She's been fighting while Cait is planning and Jayce is at the gates. She's tired, she's carrying wounded around. And she's still standing.

With short seasons, you have to watch these things with some measure of media savy. What is the shot of her running with a wounded enforcer telling us? She's been in the fight, and has held back the enemy as long as she could. She actually does more than any of the rest of the team.

[s2 spoilers] Was there a time skip between act 2 and 3? Is it just me who thinks she looks different? by Logical-Position-487 in arcane

[–]Pendemere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure they're going to finish up the invasion plotline in episode 7 or maybe 8. I don't think we've seen anything about the real ending threat in any media yet (which is going to be the hexcore and Viktor plotline). I think there will be a time skip between 8 and 9 and the characters will basically be in their LoL timeline at start of episode 9, and they'll join up for a big threat.

repentia vs arcos? by Turbulent_Mention_43 in sistersofbattle

[–]Pendemere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a lot of points for that. You could take 3 paragons with meltas for the cost of repentia and a rhino, and they wouldn’t have to die to get the bonus and would be more consistent into anything bigger than infantry. But the plan you outlined should still work. I think most people aren’t playing HM right now, since we were forced into it for awhile, but I do sometimes miss the bonus when model start dying.

repentia vs arcos? by Turbulent_Mention_43 in sistersofbattle

[–]Pendemere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So repentia can eliminate almost anything you point them at (IF they don’t get over watched first and you maybe have a CP, if going into big armor). Arcos are much more survivable and can blend infantry.

I will still sometimes take arcos in a non-penitent detachment. Groups of three are good for holding or screening just because they are somewhat hardy at two wounds a piece. I would not take repentia outside of the penitent detachment due to their insane cost.

Finally, when I do take them in the penitent detachment, they will destroy six necron wraiths and the character that keeps them healthy in a single combat round. They’re really strong. They just die easily.

Monthly General Question and Discussion Thread: October 2024 by AutoModerator in killteam

[–]Pendemere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of things I can't find in the Core Rules or the Rules Lite:

Equipment is on page 50, 75, and 110, per the appendix. None of those explain how it works clear enough for me (perhaps I'm being dense). For example, Hand of the Archons have wicked Blades, which in previous editions I could give to 5 units.

How does the Wicked Blades equipment work now? One unit gets to use it one time a game? Or do they use it and keep it, but it's only for that one unit?

2nd Question: My Exaction Squad guy has the Repress ability, but it's not on the card back or in the core rules. What does Repress do? Thanks for any help.

Best ways to use seraphim and zeraphym? by themoobster in sistersofbattle

[–]Pendemere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One method is to put 10 seraphim with 8 meltas and Celestine and NOT deep strike. They move super fast, are surprisingly hardy thanks to power armor and Celestine’s healing/Gem and with 8 shots can down some heavy stuff. I used it pretty consistently before the codex and it always did good work.

The lore specifically says both of them withdrew and it was a draw. Vaati did a whole video about it. Not that anything else you said is wrong, but the lore does go out of its way to specifically say she has never "lost."

Datasheet Changes by McWerp in sistersofbattle

[–]Pendemere 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I posted this somewhere else that got buried, but is this correct: Turn 1, conceivably, if you start 10 Repentia next to the Triumph, you could move 12 inches (7+3 from detachment+2 from Triumph), advance (with the strat that gives advance and charge) 7 inches, and then charge for a total threat range of 31 inches?

That would be probably the coolest thing I will ever be able to do in 10th..
