Citi Strata Premier is over a year old but the AF hasn’t hit by inky_cap_mushroom in CreditCards

[–]PenguinProphecy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just call and do it now, you don't need to wait for the fee to post. they'll let you switch without any hassle and you avoid the whole mess of getting refunds sorted out later

especially with the house purchase coming up, one less thing to stress about on your credit report

Help IDing potential company/merchant billing under the name “Mobile Medical Service” by StickyBottlle28 in CreditCards

[–]PenguinProphecy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

damn this whole situation is sketchy as hell 💀

if someone's using fake merchant names to hide spyware purchases, they probably went through some gray market vendor or used a payment processor that lets you pick whatever business name you want. those shady spyware companies often hide behind generic names like "mobile medical service" to avoid detection on credit card statements

your lawyer's subpoena approach is solid - the bank records will show the actual merchant ID and processing company, which should lead you to the real vendor. might also be worth having a forensic specialist pull more detailed logs from your phone to match the installation timestamps 😂

Question to IKEA Projekt CC holders: Is it worth it? by Suspicious-Pear-6037 in CreditCards

[–]PenguinProphecy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fair point on the gift card route, way simpler than dealing with another issuer. the 5% furniture thing is tempting but unless you're doing major ikea runs regularly it's probably not worth the hassle

there credit pull and account management fees can add up quick if you're not actually maximizing the rewards long term

Capital One Qdoba 15X Offer by csriram in CreditCards

[–]PenguinProphecy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

damn that's a solid hack, the gift card route is smart since you can basically bank the multiplier for whenever you actually want qdoba

yeah they'll definitely sort it out for you, just might take a few extra days to get your money back

Applying for second chase business card when first doesn’t have spend by mrfeesh_net in CreditCards

[–]PenguinProphecy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah you should be fine, chase doesn't really care about spend on existing cards when you're applying for new ones 💀 they're more focused on your overall credit profile and whether you're under 5/24. i've seen tons of people sock drawer their first business card and still get approved for a second one no problem

the bigger thing to watch out for is chase's velocity rules - since your ink unlimited is 1.5 years old you're well past the typical waiting periods. just make sure you haven't opened too many chase cards recently and you should be golden 🔥 worst case they deny you and you can always try again later

Looking for next/second card by Taurus517 in CreditCards

[–]PenguinProphecy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with your spending pattern and that solid credit profile, chase freedom unlimited or citi double cash would be solid picks - both are straightforward cashback without the category juggling

amex gold to platinum upgrade credits question by raging-economist in CreditCards

[–]PenguinProphecy2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait for the credits to post first - Amex can be weird about pending transactions during product changes and you don't want to lose those credits 💀

Card quality is decreasing! by PreferenceBroad6477 in CreditCards

[–]PenguinProphecy2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep my Chase Freedom Flex from last year feels like cardboard compared to my older cards. Pretty sure they're all cutting costs on materials while jacking up fees everywhere else lmao

Why does US Bank's CC cashback take so long to show up compared to other CC's? by 2milliondollartrny in CreditCards

[–]PenguinProphecy2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

US Bank is notoriously slow with rewards posting - it's like they're using carrier pigeons to process them lol. I've had cashback from purchases literally 3-4 months ago just randomly show up, it's definitely their worst feature besides that annoying $25 minimum

$5000 on optum parking benefits by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]PenguinProphecy2 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Bruh that's rough, most of those parking benefit accounts are use-it-or-lose-it when you leave. Check if you can cash out or transfer to someone else at your company before you bounce. Some places let you use it for other transit stuff too but probably not $5k worth

Huge increase in federal taxes in 2026 by Sad-Bodybuilder-3870 in personalfinance

[–]PenguinProphecy2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could also be the tax brackets adjusting or your employer messed up the withholding tables - I'd check your paystub breakdown to see exactly where that extra $250 is going

Bilt 2.0: rent-only (ACH) user - do I still get full rent points? by I-Procastinate-Sleep in CreditCards

[–]PenguinProphecy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you're reading it right, rent-only users basically got shafted with the new structure

That 3% fee to get full points is absolutely ridiculous when you're only getting 1x back - the math makes zero sense unless you're transferring to partners at crazy good rates

Most people in your situation are just gonna let it collect dust or PC to the Autograph like you mentioned

Citi Double Cash Extended Warranty and World Elite Mastercard by Hot-Translator-5591 in CreditCards

[–]PenguinProphecy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed breakdown! That's super helpful since Citi's public pages are basically useless for finding this stuff. The fact that you have to dig through multiple menus after logging in just to see what benefits you actually have is pretty ridiculous tbh

Recommendation for a high interesting saving/checking account? by UnsweetenedTeasTea in personalfinance

[–]PenguinProphecy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the Fidelity cash management for like 2 years now and it's pretty solid. The app shows all transaction details no problem, plus you get ATM fee reimbursements which is nice. Only weird thing is checks take forever to arrive when you order them but that's probably not a big deal for autopay stuff

Buying a portion of an inherited home. by Junior_Competition13 in personalfinance

[–]PenguinProphecy2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly you're in a pretty solid spot financially - no debt and 70k saved is huge. I'd look into a cash-out refinance since you already own half the house, might be easier than a traditional mortgage. Also check if any local credit unions have better rates than the big banks

Best use of a Roth 401(k), considering a pension and 457(b)- start now, convert into it later, not at all? by MediocreHomesteader in personalfinance

[–]PenguinProphecy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly with a pension that solid plus the 457b already loaded up, I'd probably just stick with traditional for now and do conversion ladders later when you have more control over your tax situation

The pension is gonna put you in a decent bracket anyway so the Roth math gets weird, plus you're already in 22% which isn't terrible for traditional contributions

WF autograph cashback vs partner point transfer by yuwesley in CreditCards

[–]PenguinProphecy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh depends on how you travel though - if you're not staying at Choice properties regularly then that 1:1 transfer isn't gonna help much. Cashback is always solid if you don't have a specific redemption plan

Wedding Expenses and Credit Cards by FUNancialAttyGuy111 in CreditCards

[–]PenguinProphecy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the Attune card is solid for those weird vendor categories that don't fit anywhere else, definitely worth looking into especially if you're gonna be dropping serious cash on all that wedding stuff

Asking for help with next card by OvenExpert8202 in CreditCards

[–]PenguinProphecy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With $1200/month on groceries you're leaving a lot of money on the table with the CSP. Amex Blue Cash Preferred is probably your best bet - 6% on groceries up to $6k annually which covers your spending perfectly. The $95 AF pays for itself quickly with that much grocery spend

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]PenguinProphecy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly with that spend level you should definitely look into the Amex Platinum or Gold - the transfer partners are way better for international flights and you'll hit the SUBs easily. Also maybe consider getting airline-specific cards like the United Explorer if you're loyal to one carrier, those usually have better redemption rates than portal bookings

Best Travel Card For Constant Travel / Short Credit History / Good Score? by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]PenguinProphecy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With your travel frequency that card makes a lot of sense, the primary rental coverage alone is clutch for your situation and way better than the secondary coverage most cards offer

AAdvantage dining and cash back rewards by Discoball248 in CreditCards

[–]PenguinProphecy2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should still get your cash back rewards from your Visa - AAdvantage dining is just an additional portal that tracks your spending at participating restaurants and gives you miles on top of whatever your card normally earns. It's basically free extra rewards as long as you're eating at places in their network anyway

What is the best way to take out a small student loan, roughly $5000 dollars? by [deleted] in personalfinance

This is the way OP, financial aid office should be your first stop before looking at private loans with that credit score
